If all goes as planned, World Series of Fighting bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes could be making his next appearance inside the Octagon.

Ali Abdelaziz, the manager for Moraes, told MMAjunkie on Thursday that his client is interested in a bout at UFC 210 with Jimmie Rivera.

Moraes’ contract with the WSOF expired after his most recent title defense, which came at WSOF 34 vs. Josenaldo Silva.

“I believe Marlon is capable of beating any bantamweight in the world,” Abdelaziz said. “Jimmie needs a fight, and Marlon deserves to fight a top-ranked opponent if he signs with the UFC. This fight just makes sense.”

Moraes is 18-4-1 overall and went a perfect 11-0 with the WSOF. Rivera (20-1) was scheduled to meet Bryan Caraway this past weekend, but Caraway bowed out with an injury.

Reigning World Series of Fighting (WSOF) bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes is widely considered to be the best 135 pounder competing outside of the UFC and after defending his title for the fifth consecutive time this past weekend (Dec. 31, 2016) in New York, he is once again a free agent.

While it’s unclear where he’ll end up, the Brazilian made it clear that he’s interested in fighting the best:

“My idea is to fight the best and be valued for that,” Moraes told MMAjunkie. “I have what it takes to fight the best, I’m absolutely certain.

“Let’s see what we’re going to do. I’m excited, and I hope good offers arrive.”

With that being said, Moraes is well aware that the best fighters typically compete in the UFC, but he admitted that the offer must be right:

“The best are in the UFC,” Moraes said. “It doesn’t take an MMA expert to say that. Certainly, the best are there. But let’s see, let’s see if a good offer comes along and we can fight them and see what I can do. Because I’m sure I can arrive there in impressive fashion – not just there, but in any event, against any athlete in my division.”

Interesting enough, the UFC bantamweight strap was on the line last Friday (Dec. 30, 2016) just one day prior to Moraes’ fight. In a thrilling upset, Cody Garbrandt beat Dominick Cruz to steal the title and Moraes said he was ‘motivated’ by the fight:

“It was a very good fight, with an extremely high technical level,” Moraes said. “It was the day before my fight, and it was good. It really motivated me. And I saw that I’m at that level. It got me very happy and confident for my fight.”

As far as Garbrandt goes, Moraes admits that “No Love” is a talented fighter, although not one that the Brazilian feels is unbeatable:

“I thought Cody fought very well,” Moraes said. “He’s a very tough athlete, very good. That’s it, he’s good, but not invincible.”

Reigning World Series of Fighting (WSOF) bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes successfully defended his title for the fifth time in New York City on New Year’s Eve. He defeated Josenaldo Silva in the first round due to a knee injury.

As of now, Moraes is still the WSOF 135-pound champion, but he is also a free agent. The Ricardo Almeida BJJ fighter spoke with MMAJunkie.com. He said he wants to face top competition, but he also wants to be valued:

“My idea is to fight the best and be valued for that. I have what it takes to fight the best, I’m absolutely certain. Let’s see what we’re going to do. I’m excited, and I hope good offers arrive.”

Moraes admits the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has the elite competition. The WSOF champion is looking for the right deal.

“The best are in the UFC, it doesn’t take an MMA expert to say that. Certainly, the best are there. But let’s see, let’s see if a good offer comes along and we can fight them and see what I can do. Because I’m sure I can arrive there in impressive fashion – not just there, but in any event, against any athlete in my division.”

Moraes paid close attention to the UFC bantamweight title bout between Cody Garbrandt and Dominick Cruz. Moraes believes he can match that high level of fighting.

“It was a very good fight, with an extremely high technical level. It was the day before my fight, and it was good. It really motivated me. And I saw that I’m at that level. It got me very happy and confident for my fight.”

You’ll have to go back to Nov. 2011 to find Moraes’ last defeat. Since then, he has been on a tear winning 13 straight bouts. It shouldn’t be long before Moraes makes his next move.

Reigning World Series Of Fighting (WSOF) bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes recently fought out the last fight on his current contract and has suddenly become the hottest free agent in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA). Having defended his 135-pound strap four consecutive times in addition to owning 12 straight wins, Moraes could potentially be headed to the shark tank that is the UFC bantamweight division, although his coach, Mark Henry, recently said that the decision will likely focus around money:

“Show me the money,” Henry said Monday on The MMA Hour. “Who’s going to show what we believe Marlon is worth? Marlon, man, he’s amazing fighter, but it also has to do with, WSOF has been so great to him. They’re such a great group over there. Ray Sefo and those guys have treated Marlon and the rest of us so well. I’m sure he’ll have to listen to them, what they have to say, because they’ve just treated him great.

“But at the end of it all, maybe five, six, seven years ago when [Moraes] was a single kid, UFC would probably be the thing. But now he has the wife and kids, and what’s the difference between WSOF and UFC? It’s what, maybe 20,000 more Instagram followers and maybe your name on MMA Fighting a little more, and that’s about it at the end. Other than that, the kid needs to take care of his family first.”

The UFC 135-pound class is currently led by a man many consider to be the best bantamweight of all-time in Dominick Cruz. Henry, however, feels that Moraes, who trains with the likes of Frankie Edgar, Eddie Alvarez, and Edson Barboza, would ‘definitely’ beat “The Dominator”:

“I’m usually cautious and like to get your wet a little, but in this case I’m not,” Henry said. “And I have so much respect for Dominick. I think Dominick is amazing. But I do not think that Dominick could hang with Marlon, in my opinion. Dominick is amazing. I have so much respect for Dominick, and I do, I love his game to death. But man, I just think Marlon would beat him. I just really, truly in my heart think that Marlon would definitely win. And I usually don’t like to talk smack unless they’re in person, but I have that much confidence in Marlon.”

Do you feel as if Moraes could compete with the UFC elite?

Marlon Moraes: A Humble Star With A Big Future (Exclusive Interview)

marlon-maroes

Through the first 4 years of Marlon Moraes’s  Professional MMA career, it was hard to tell what he would become. Fast hands and a good ground game, but unable to create an impressive winning streak. Posting a respectable 7-4-1 record, but not doing much to stand out. That was until November of 2012 when Moraes stepped up and fought long time veteran Miguel Torres at the inaugural World Series of Fighting. Putting his name on the map with a split decision victory. Follow that up with one of the most devastating knockout’s in MMA history against Tyson Namm at WSOF 2, and a new star was born.

Marlon is on the verge of becoming the sports most highly touted Free Agent. The only thing standing in front of him and a potential lucrative contract, is former foe Josh Hill. Marlon is ready to do whatever it takes to get a repeat victory over Hill, “…it doesn’t matter how. It doesn’t matter what is going to have to happen. If I have to give my blood. If I have to go the 5 rounds. If I have to finish. If I have to knock somebody out. It doesn’t matter how man. I just want to sit on my couch man and see the fight. I’m the winner.”

Listen to the full interview and hear what Marlon has to say about his teammate Eddie Alvarez becoming Champion, his future with World Series of Fighting, and why he thinks Jose Aldo’s spy claims are “bullshit”. All that and more with one of the best Bantamweights in the world today.
