“The Immortal” Matt Brown is back. The longtime UFC veteran will end a two-year layoff to fight at UFC 245 on pay-per-view (PPV).

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported this weekend that Brown is set to take on Ben Saunders at the December show. UFC 245 takes place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 14. Already scheduled for the card is a women’s featherweight title clash between Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie.

The 38-year-old Brown last competed back in November of 2017. He knocked out Diego Sanchez at UFC Norfolk with an elbow in the third round. The victory ended a three-fight losing streak in which Brown was finished in each of those defeats. Now, Brown hopes to pick up his first win streak since 2014.

He’ll take on Saunders, a man in desperate need of a victory as he currently rides a three-fight losing streak in which he has been finished in each of those contests. His last outing resulted in a second-round TKO loss to Takashi Sato in April from Florida. A win over a legendary name like Brown would be quite the confidence booster for the 36-year-old veteran.

What do you think about Brown making his return at UFC 245 after two years?

Having been sidelined all of 2018, Matt Brown is planning an MMA return later this year. And Mike Perry would be an ideal opponent.

Brown, who is still recovering from knee and ankle injuries, hasn’t competed since beating Diego Sanchez back in November of 2017. He was scheduled to face Carlos Condit in 2018; however, his injuries did the fight in. An avid fight fan, Brown keeps his eye on the prize and perhaps, more importantly, he scouts his competition from the sidelines. One fighter that has caught Brown’s attention is the hard-hitting Perry.

Earlier this month Brown and Perry engaged in some back and forth on social media. Both fighters seem to like the idea of fighting one another. Brown still holds that same sentiment.

“I think fans would get behind that fight,” Brown told reporters backstage at Bellator 214 (h/t MMAJunkie). “I think it would be a good fight for me to come back to and a good fight for him to get his ass kicked in.”

While “The Immortal” is gung-ho on the “Platinum” Perry match up, his potential opponent didn’t seem to excited at the prospect at a fight with Brown. Just last week Perry called for pay-per-view opponents; there is little doubt Perry wants the last fight on his current UFC contract to be a banger.

“I’ll shrug, too,” Brown said. “I think he’s a good fight for both of us.”

I think I can safely speak for most MMA fans when I say that a fight between Brown and Perry would be a good fight for the fans too.

Two of the most violent fighters in the UFC may be headed for a showdown later this year as Matt Brown has answered Mike Perry’s all-violence challenge.

Perry took to Twitter earlier today to ask his fellow welterweight fighters a question. “Platinum” is looking for a fight and he wants an opponent that is going to be equally exciting as him.

And wouldn’t you know it, “The Immortal” answered Perry’s tweet with on of his own.

A fight between Brown and Perry would be nothing short of a good old fashioned slobberknocker. Both men are fan-favorite fighters because of the level of intensity and violence that each man brings to the Octagon.

Brown (21-16) got back on track with an absolutely brutal knock out of Diego Sanchez in his last outing. That, however, was in November of 2017. “The Immortal” sat out all of 2018 dealing with injuries and the like.

As for Perry (12-4), the “Platinum” one has lost three of his last four fights. His lone win in that stretch was a split decision nod over Paul Felder at UFC 226. Perry was most recently submitted by Donald Cerrone.

Matt Brown has revealed that he will have to undergo surgery.

Brown was forced to the sidelines and out of his bout against former title contender Carlos Condit at UFC on FOX 29.

Just four years ago, they were booked against each other at UFC on FOX 9, but Brown sustained a back injury that forced him out of the fight. The bout never got re-booked.

The fight never took place due to Brown suffering a torn ACL that forced him to withdraw from the scheduled welterweight bout.

It’s been well documented that his latest bout against Diego Sanchez on the main card of UFC Fight Night 120 on November 11th, 2017 at Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia would be his last fight.

Brown was on a three-fight stoppage skid and made it clear that this would be his retirement fight.

As seen in the fight, he broke that losing streak by landing a devastating elbow strike to knock out the always tough Sanchez. He then revealed that he wasn’t retiring from the sport.

Now, Brown will have to undergo surgery on his ankle that has been hurting him for the last three years.

He decided to take to his official Twitter account to announce the news and give a timeline for his return to the Octagon under the UFC banner by writing the following:

”Good news is I spoke with doctors yesterday and figured out why my ankle has been hurting badly for the last 3 years,” he wrote. “Bad news is it needs surgery and 4 months of rehab including 8 weeks non weight bearing (crutches).”
