We’re not sure if it’s the Strikeforce footage or what, but the UFC 139 edition the UFC countdown show had a different edgy feel to it. Maybe the UFC got wise and hired someone like NicktheFace to the team.
Anyway, it’s a good one and maybe it’s the marketing magic, but I’m looking more forward to this card now than I already was.

Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua:
Both Dan Henderson and Shogun Rua enter this fight coming off knockout wins, Henderson over Fedor and Rua over Forrest Griffin. With both fighters having a nice run of KO victories coming into this fight many are expecting this one to end abruptly. I wouldn’t bet the farm on that, in fact I see Henderson taking this one to the ground via his wrestling skills and grinding out the win. Henderson by unanimous decision.
Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le:
There comes a point in every great fighters career where they should retire, sadly, it seems as if Wanderlei Silva is well past that point. He’s 2-6 in his last eight fights and four of those knockouts, including a 27-second KO in his last fight, have been pretty nasty. Silva will be facing a UFC newcomer in Le, but that newcomer has finished every single fight he has won with a KO or TKO. I don’t see this one ending any differently. Le by TKO
Urijah Faber vs, Brian Bowles:
This fight may very well decide who is the next fighter to challenge for Dominick Cruz’s bantamweight title. Both fighters probably deserve to be in this situation, with that being said Faber is probably a level higher in overall talent than Bowles add to that the fact that Bowles quit in his corner in a title fight because of a broken hand, and Faber has the advantage in mental toughness as well. Add these things up and you have the makings of Faber vs. Cruz III. Faber by unanimous decision.
Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story:
Two fighters that had runs toward the top of the welterweight division derailed will meet up in this bout. Kampmann is coming off two controversial losses that could have gone either way, while Story is coming back from a loss to a fighter that was ranked much lower than he was. I don’t think Kampmann is in danger of being cut with a loss here, as he was close to winning both of his last two, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to fight like his back’s against the wall. Kampmann by unanimous decision.
Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury:
This one may not be the best fight for a main card if you look strictly at rankings, but if you look at this one as pure entertainment, well, you could do worse. Look for a pure stand up battle, that will go the three round distance. Kingsbury by split decision.

UFC 139 will take place Saturday, November 19 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. Of the five fights on the main card, three will feature former champions facing off against each other, all in the quest to get one step closer to the ultimate prize, UFC gold.
The main event will see former UFC light heavyweight champion, Maurico “Shogun” Rua facing off against former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson. Judging by the fighters past few wins, chances are good that this one will not make it five rounds. Rua’s last five wins have come via knockout or technical knockout. For his part, Henderson’s last four wins have come via KO or TKO.
The co-main event will feature the UFC debut of former Strikeforce champion Cung Le. Le (7-1) has never gone the distance in any of his fights, ending six via KO or TKO and being KO’d in his only loss. Le’s opponent, former PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva, has gone 4-6 in his last ten fights, with four of those losses coming via knockout. In his four victories he has two decision and two KO/TKO stoppages.
Two former WEC champions will face off for, what many believe will be, a shot to face current UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Faber (25-5) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Cruz at UFC 132, while Bowles (10-1) is on a two fight winning streak since losing his WEC title to Cruz on March 6 of last year.
Full main card odds:
Mauricio Rua (-145) favorite over Dan Henderson (+115)
Cung Le (-160) favorite over Wanderlei Silva (+130)
Urijah Faber (-220) favorite over Brian Bowles (+180)
Rick Story (-150) favorite over Martin Kampmann (+120)
Kyle Kingsbury (-140) favorite over Stephan Bonnar (+110)

UFC 139 will take place Saturday, November 19 from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. The fight card is stacked with former champions from various MMA promotions, including UFC, PRIDE, WEC and Strikeforce.
Headlining the card will be Dan Henderson and Mauricio Rua, two former champions that will be looking to put themselves in line for the shot at the ultimate prize. That is, Jon Jones’ UFC light heavyweight title.
Henderson, a former champion in Strikeforce and PRIDE, is 4-1 in his last five fights with all four of those victories coming via knockout. The last time Henderson fought in the UFC was at UFC 100, where he delivered one of the most memorable knockouts in UFC history by putting Michael Bisping to sleep at the 3:20 mark of Round 2.
Henderson’s opponent, “Shogun” Rua, has a record of 4-3 since joining the UFC in 2007. Two of those wins came by knockout and the other two came via TKO. Of Rua’s three losses in the Octagon, the one that most likely nags at him the most is the loss to Jon Jones at UFC 128 in a fight that saw Jones wrestle the title away from Rua in dominating fashion.
The co-main event of the evening will see former Strikeforce champion Cung Le face off against former PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva.
Le brings a record of 7-1 into his Octagon debut. Of those wins, five have come via knockout and two via TKO. He will look to add another stoppage victory to that list when he faces the struggling “Axe Murderer.”
Silva has a record of 2-6 since 2006. Of his six losses, four have come via knockout or TKO. After his last loss, a 27-second knockout at the hands of Chris Leben, UFC president Dana White openly expressed the fact that he was considering pulling a “Chuck Liddell” and basically forcing Silva into retirement.
While that did not come to pass, to say that Silva needs a big win in this fight would be an understatement.
Also on the pay-per-view card, former WEC champions Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles will face off, with the winner looking to get a shot at current UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.

An event stacked with some of the greatest fighters in MMA history, UFC 139 is only days away, which means it is time for Dan Henderson, Mauricio Rua and the rest of the event’s fighters to make their final statements before stepping into the Octagon on Saturday.
A live stream of the UFC 139 pre-fight press conference will be available on the above video player.
In addition to the light heavyweight bout that many fans hoped to see under the Pride banner years ago, Wanderlei Silva will welcome Cung Le to the UFC, and Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles will be looking to earn another shot at UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz.
Saturday’s fights will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. A number of other big names, such as Ryan Bader and Miguel Torres, will also be competing at the event.

Mauricio Rua’s Keys to Victory
Mauricio Rua is one of the best in the business and its his ability to adapt to the person he is fighting that has let him be a force as long as he has. While Dan Henderson has cardio for days, he is 41 years old and 12 years the elder of Rua and that could be a factor.
Dan Henderson’s Keys to Victory
With Rua being a solid take down artist and extremely aggressive, Dan Henderson has to capitalize on any and all mistakes from Rua. Hendo is one of the best fighters in MMA history, but age is starting to catch up with him.
Undercard Fight To Watch: Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles
Urijah Faber is one of the best fighters in MMA, but distractions cost him much of the momentum he gained from the WEC.
This fight in important because the winner will become the number one contender and most likely earn a rematch with UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz.
Bowles was the UFC champ until his fight was stopped due to a broken hand, and that loss remains his only. This fight could become an instant classic.
Main Event Prediction: Henderson via Submisson
If Henderson has done anything better than any other aging star, its use his mental experience to manipulate a fight. With his elite wrestling abilities and Rua’s ability and willingness to go to the ground, Hendo will wait for a mistake and tap Shogun out.
