Max Holloway would like to face Conor McGregor, not Ilia Topuria next time out if he had his wish.

Holloway became the BMF champion on Saturday with a highlight-reel fifth-round KO over Justin Gaethje as the Hawaiian moved back up to lightweight. It was an incredible performance from Max Holloway, and after the win, many thought he would be dropping back down to featherweight to face Topuria for the belt.

However, Holloway says he’d rather rematch McGregor than face Topuria for the featherweight title as he knows it’s a much bigger fight.

“It’d be hard not to say whith them finally announcing it is actually fighting to be Conor (McGregor) 2, to run it back. That’s the huge fight I’d think. But, legacy, ideal trying to get back to the undisputed (featherweight) title. Gotta go with (Ilia) Topuria. He’d be the man that I couldn’t help but figure it out, but we’ll see. We’re having a little bible verse beef on top of Twitter right now, so life’s good. It’s looking like it’s gonna be him next, but first thing’s first,” Holloway said to KHON2.

“Justin kicked like a horse, man. Like a horse, you know? I can feel it today. Couple days later, I can still feel it, so we’re gonna recover. I got my beautiful wife with me here. We got our wedding anniversary tomorrow, so that’s all I’m focused on. Seeing my son, too. I didn’t see him for a couple days now. It was hard talking to him on the phone after the fight, the guy was celebrating more harder than me. At the end of the day, I just got family to think of right now and we’ll go from there,” Holloway added.

Although Holloway would like to face McGregor, it seems unlikely that the fight will happen next. Instead, the Hawaiian will likely face Topuria next.

Ilia Touria not impressed with Max Holloway

Although Max Holloway pulled off the upset win over Justin Gaethje, Ilia Topuria wasn’t impressed with the Hawaiian.

Topuria called to defend his belt against Holloway later this year, in what would be one of the most anticipated fights of the year.

However, it’s unclear whether or not that will be next, but if it does, fans should be in for a treat in a very fan-friendly fight.

Jorge Masvidal calls for 'easy' UFC comeback fight against Justin Gaethje: 'He just got flatlined'

After the events of UFC 300, Jorge Masvidal remains adamant that Justin Gaethje would be an “easy fight” for him.

Putting his BMF title on the line for the very first time, Gaethje went to war with former featherweight champion Max Holloway. Suffering a broken nose in the early going, ‘The Highlight’ struggled to find his target for much of the 24:59 affair. With time winding down, Holloway called for the two men to stand in the center and throw hands until the final horn.

Gaethje vs. Holloway

Gaethje obliged and suffered the consequences, eating a booming overhand right that sent him crashing to the canvas with one second left on the clock.

Appearing on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the promotion’s first-ever BMF champion once again suggested that Gaethje would make for the perfect opponent should ‘Gamebred’ decide to give it one more go inside the Octagon.

“I don’t want to talk too much sh*t since he just got f*cking flatlined, but I’m hoping our paths cross in the UFC, you know, cause this would be, like, a very good comeback fight for me, easy fight for me,” Masvidal said. He’s literally just walking forward, eating shots, no head movement. No nothing.

“It’s nothing personal, but I would definitely love to bust f*cking Gaethje’s face up. I’ll let him heal up from this because he might never come back the same because that was a war that he went through and on top of that, he got f*cking executed. Gaethje can say whatever he wants. I don’t really give f*ck about it, but if our paths ever cross, I’ll light that motherf*cker up.”

Jorge Masvidal questions how much life justin gaethje has left

After suffering such a brutal knockout, Masvidal can’t help, but question how much the 35-year-old Gaethje has left to give inside the Octagon.

“Gaethje always finds a way to come back, put on great shows, and keep fucking winning. But this one was bad,” Masvidal said of Gaethje. “He was out for a good amount of time, like two minutes, and when they sat him up he was still visibly hurt. I hope he makes a full recovery and comes back to the sport stronger than ever, but you just don’t know when you take a knockout like that…

“It wasn’t just that, it was a lot of abuse to the body. I thought Gaethje got the short end of the stick and got more of the abuse, and his nose too…this fight might’ve taken a lot of years out of Gaethje.”

Fortunately, Gaethje appeared to be in good spirits a few short hours after the devastating setback.

What’s next for ‘The Highlight’ remains to be seen, but as for Holloway, a featherweight title clash with reigning champion Ilia Topuria appears to be the next logical step.

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco wants to test himself against Max Holloway.

‘Blessed’ has been the talk of the town ever since his epic buzzer-beating knockout of Justin Gaethje to capture the BMF title at UFC 300 on Saturday night.

Max Holloway KOs Gaethje

During a recent episode of his Night Cap podcast with Shannon Sharpe, Ochocinco — real name Chad Johnson — asked his co-host, “If I was to fight Max, when you think he would beat me in the Octagon?

Sharpe immediately responded suggesting it would take Holloway no more than 30 seconds to put Ochocinco to sleep.

“Max Holloway, if you see this… If you have any time during your break before your next fight, let’s spar,” Ochocinco said. “Let’s get some footage. I just want to show Uncle Sharpe that I ain’t with the bullsh*t. Congratulations, but please.”

When Sharpe tried to explain that there are levels to the game of MMA, like any sport, Ochocinco doubled down on his challenge to the former featherweight champion.

“Man, I’ll thump Max Holloway’s chin,” Ochocinco added. “Don’t be playin’ me like that. I’m out the city. What you talking about? I’m built for that.

During his decade-long career in the NFL, Ochocinco was a six-time Pro Bowl selection and is a member of the elite 10,000 Receiving Yards Club. In 2021, he competed on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul undercard, going the distance in a four-round exhibition boxing match with Brian Maxwell.

Max Holloway Responds to ilia topuria’s ‘back of the line’ comment

After scoring one of the wildest knockouts in UFC history, Max Holloway is primed for a shot at newly minted featherweight titleholder, Ilia Topuria. After seeing ‘Blessed’ turn ‘The Highlight’ into a highlight, Topuria told ESPN Deportes:

It’s clear for me, my next fight is against Max Holloway. Congratulations and enjoy tonight, but after fighting me he will have to go back in the line.”

Getting wind of Topuria’s comment, Holloway offered his response during an appearance at the UFC 300 post-fight press conference.

“That’s cool,” Holloway said at the evening’s post-fight presser when told of Topuria’s response. “What am I going to say? What if he goes to the back of the line? So at the end of the day, we find out. Like I said, we’ve got questions. We’re in the fighting game. Ilia can talk, but I’ve got a lot of questions. I like listening and if that ever gets booked, you guys are going to see a lot of answers. So I’m excited for it.”

Ilia Topuria vows to be the first to KO Max Holloway I will take your lights out UFC 300

Ilia Topuria believes he will be the first person to KO Max Holloway in a potential fight.

Holloway scored a highlight-reel knockout win over Justin Gaethje to win the BMF title at UFC 300. It was a great performance from the Hawaiian who was the underdog and many were counting out. However, Holloway proved the doubters wrong and now could return to featherweight to face Ilia Topuria for the belt.

If that fight does happen next, Topuria is confident he won’t just win but will be the first person to KO Holloway.

“Congrats on your performance Max . Respect your story and everything you achieved with a beautiful family . Hopefully we gonna share the octagon before the end of the year and trust me you gonna feel something that you never felt before . I will be the first one to take your lights out . Philippians 4:13,” Topruia wrote.

After Holloway’s performance at UFC 300, fans are now excited for his potential fight against Topuria. Whether or not Holloway will get the next title shot is uncertain, however.

Ilia Topuria Calls Max Holloway’s Win ‘Nothing Special’

Although Max Holloway scored a highlight-reel KO win over Justin Gaethje, Ilia Topuria was not impressed by his performance.

Instead, Topruia thinks it was nothing special and the performance only made the featherweight champ more confident in a potential bout.

“Well, it was good. Nothing special to be honest,” Topuria said to ESPN Deportes’ Carlos Contreras Legaspi (h/t MMAFighting). “The ending was only an exchange of punches without any strategy. Both just throwing punches. Zero defense, hands down, and that kind of things can happen but that is something that would never happen with me because I think inside the octagon.

“[Holloway] was talking a lot during the week. It’s normal. It is what he has to do. He needs to believe he is the best. There is no other way in this sport. But the results are clear. I did in nine minutes [to Volkanosvki] what he was not able to do in 90 minutes. So, he can say whatever he wants, enjoy now, and get ready for what’s coming. He can do whatever he wants. He won’t be able to change that.”
