Don’t rule out the chances of seeing a Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway rematch.

The pair first fought each other in 2013 in a featherweight contest that saw the Irishman come out on top via unanimous decision.

However, Holloway has improved leaps and bounds since with many observers in the combat sports world eager to see how he would fare against McGregor today.

It’s certainly a fight that interests the Hawaiian, but he feels it would have been bigger if McGregor had come out on top against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 last month.

However, he did reveal that the UFC has discussed the idea of a rematch on multiple occasions and both fighters have nothing but time when it comes to a sequel.

“I’m not here to kick a man while he’s down, but I think that fight with me and Conor is on a very short list with the UFC,” Holloway said in an episode of Food Truck Diaries (via Middle Easy). “If he was to win the fight (with Poirier) I think it would have been a little bit different, a little bit greater. I think that fight would have happened, but we’ve got nothing but time.

“He’s not going nowhere, I’m not going nowhere. Build the man back up, I’m going to keep doing my thing, let him do his thing… The UFC, we had talks here and there about it. It’s on a very short list for the UFC and I’m just excited for it.”

For now, Holloway will be focused on reclaiming his featherweight title, especially after his performance against Calvin Kattar last month.

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has finally explained why he was skateboarding by while Conor McGregor was conducting an interview with UFC Arabia on ‘Fight Island.’

For those who don’t remember, McGregor become distracted when someone who looked like Holloway skated by as he talked about his upcoming UFC 257 main event fight – check out the video below.

It was in fact Holloway who had skated by.

‘Blessed’ had recently competed against Calvin Kattar on the Island and decided to stick around for a few days after.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Holloway revealed he knew that room was where the interviews had been conducted and his intent was to distract whoever was in there, although he wasn’t aware it was McGregor at the time.

“We were with the boys, with the team, and I was on my skateboard and we know that’s where you do interviews, right? So I didn’t know who was in it, but I was like, ‘If someone’s interviewing, I’m gonna act like an idiot passing the whole window,’” Holloway grinned. “So I was doing stupid stuff like this (flails arms around) the whole time when I was riding past and, of course, it’s Conor’s interview, so it was just funny.”

McGregor would go on to lose at UFC 257.

Dustin Poirier used wrestling and heavy leg kicks early before following up with fast hands to finish the fight inside two rounds.

Holloway is refusing to rule out a potential rematch with McGregor despite the fact the Irishman is coming off a tough loss.

“The UFC had that fight on a very short list, I believe, and the beautiful thing about this sport is time,” Holloway added. “Timing is everything and you know this so we’ll see what happens. I don’t want to kick the man when he’s down or talk about him, so let him figure out his stuff, and I’ll be right here. Timing is everything in this sport, so we’ll see what happens.”

Former featherweight champion Max Holloway has reflected on his lopsided decision win over top contender Calvin Kattar.

‘Blessed’ put on a striking clinic against Kattar over five rounds in the main event of UFC on ABC 1.

In the final round, Holloway began addressing the commentary team and declared himself the best boxer in MMA while simultaneously dodging Kattar’s punches.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Holloway reflected on the fight he believes is the best performance of his career.

“No, I think that was my best performance out there,” Holloway said. “We get better every time, right? That’s what we did. And to do it against a guy like Calvin Kattar who many hold him as one of the great boxers, not in our division but all of UFC.”

“To have that performance against him was great. But, like I’ve been telling everybody, it takes two man, It takes two to tango,” Holloway added. “Calvin deserves just as much praise as I do. He was in there taking it, he was in there giving it. Nothing but respect to him. But I really believe that was my best performance for sure… I just felt like I was untouchable in there” (Transcribed by Essentially Sports)
