Max Holloway revealed he and his team are working on a potential lawsuit over what caused his issues leading up to UFC 226.

The former featherweight champion was originally set to defend his strap against Brian Ortega at UFC 226 in July last year. However, the fight was called off after Holloway was displaying “concussion-like symptoms” during fight week.

And it now appears that “Blessed” has figured out what led to his poor state. However, he couldn’t reveal much due to legal reasons:

“That July fight, when we was getting ready, it was in Vegas,” he told Joe Rogan in his latest podcast (via MMA Fighting). “I had to fly to New York to do my media day. So from Hawaii to New York. We did 12 hours of media and then we went to Vegas, I think got to Vegas on Thursday. I just felt out of it.

“Not really cutting weight, we was dieting and stuff. Even the water thing, I drink diluted water fight week. Even before the fight, we drink diluted water. A couple days past and it wasn’t going away.”

Holloway believes it was something he consumed that led to the events that unfolded. But again, he couldn’t reveal more than that:

“I could tell exactly what it was,” he added. “It was something we consumed. Like right now not that much people know, I left my old management. I’m with new management now and my manager now, he’s like a behavioral science guy and he’s probably watching this stream squirming the way I’m talking about it but we got stuff going on.

“I’m looking to work on with lawyers and we plan on suing somebody. There’s a bunch of stuff that I really can’t talk about. That’s why he’s squirming back there. I probably shouldn’t be talking about it too much but that’s what it is. It was something I consumed. I don’t even know if I can tell you [what it was].”

Hopefully, Holloway and his team get a successful resolution.

Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is one of the best strikers in the sport, let alone his division. However, he learned his techniques from an unusual source.

Appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast earlier this week, “Blessed” revealed how he didn’t have a striking coach for his first seven professional fights. So how did he end up becoming one of the truly elite strikers in the game?

Playing the UFC game apparently helped him go on his way:

“You really want to know what I did? You know the UFC game? I’d use Renan Barao and Jose Aldo, and I would do stuff with them,” Holloway said. “I’ll be like, ‘holy hell, this works in the game!’ So my friend at the time, Dustin Kimura, he would kind of hold mitts for me and I’d be like, ‘look, I tried this in the game and it was working. Let’s try it.’ And we did it. I figured it out from the regular UFC game. The first-ever UFC game.”

Rogan was blown away by Holloway’s revelation as “Blessed” expanded further:

“I would play the video game and be like, ‘oh, look at this.’ I would try the combination, and I would be like, ‘oh, this kinda works so let’s try it.’ Why not? It got me that far.”

Holloway would eventually get a striking coach and it certainly paid dividends for him.

“I don’t think the operation is too crazy but there’s a couple of breaks in there, so I’m gonna have to get that sorted,” Volkanovski said.

Volkanovski comes off of a big win over Max Holloway in the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event. The Australian-born champion bested his Hawaiian counterpart on the judges’ scorecards via unanimous decision after five rounds of fighting. Along with the victory and title, Volkanovski now finds himself on a 18-fight winning streak.

He put on a phenomenal performance against Holloway, who many believe to be the best featherweight in UFC history, on a massive stage to capture the title. Now, he claims he’s ready to grant “Blessed” an immediate rematch if that’s the way the UFC opts to go next. Holloway remains adamant that he’s still young and plans on getting back to the title down the road. He has even suggested rematching Volkanovski in Australia for what would be a tremendous event.

What do you think about Volkanovski requiring surgery to repair his broken hand? Who do you want to see Volknovski defend his title against first?
