As always, the latest action on offer inside the UFC Octagon has been followed by the release of the updated rankings.

And in the aftermath of UFC Fight Night: Anthony Hernandez vs. Michel Pereira, MMA News has you covered with this week’s updates to the official UFC rankings.

Men’s Pound-For-Pound: No changes.

Women’s Pound-for-Pound: The bad fortune has continued to come for Raquel Pennington. A few weeks on from losing the bantamweight title at UFC 307, “Rocky” has further fallen down the P4P ladder to #9, being usurped by a victor at that event in Kayla Harrison (#8).

Further down, Maycee Barber has entered at #15, replacing former strawweight title challenger Amanda Lemos.

Women’s Strawweight: There was just one change at 115 pounds, with the rising Iasmin Lucindo (#7) swapping places with her fellow countrywoman Amanda Lemos (#8).

Women’s Flyweight: No changes.

Women’s Bantamweight: No changes.

Flyweight: The biggest mover this week was Asu Almabayev, who has climbed a mammoth seven places to #7 after defeating Matheus Nicolau this past weekend. The defeated Brazilian, meanwhile, has dropped three spots to #10.

Further down, Charles Johnson’s latest victory this year has earned him the #15 spot. His entry has seen the removal of Matt Schnell, who announced his plans to retire earlier this year.

Bantamweight: Rob Font returned to winning ways at the expense of Kyler Phillips in Saturday’s co-headliner. As a result, the longtime contender has climbed one position to share #9 with Mario Bautista.

Featherweight: No changes.

Lightweight: Not long after UFC CEO Dana White used Max Holloway’s low spot in the 155-pound rankings as evidence that change is needed, “Blessed” has received a big boost. Ahead of his featherweight title challenge, the Hawaiian has risen by three places to #5 in the lightweight division.

That’s meant Dan Hooker’s stay in the top five was a brief one, with the New Zealander down to #6 after initially returning to the upper echelon of the weight class following a win over Mateusz Gamrot.

Welterweight: No changes.

Middleweight: Anthony Hernandez has received a small reward for his main event win over Michel Pereira on Oct. 19. He’s up one spot to #12, leaving Khamzat Chimaev a position worse off at #13.

Light Heavyweight: After being snubbed of the latest shot at champion Alex Pereira, Magomed Ankalaev has moved up one place to share the #1 rank in the division alongside former titleholder Ji?í Procházka.

Lower down the pecking order, Volkan Oezdemir has been relegated two spots to #8, providing small boosts for Nikita Krylov (#6) and recent title challenger Khalil Rountree (#7).

Heavyweight: No changes.

These Max Holloway Knockouts have been some of the finest moments in the history of the UFC. His most recent KO victory was Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje was an unforgettable moment to capture the BMF title at UFC 300. But the career of ‘Blessed’ Holloway has been decorated with some stunning knockouts, of which we could down the top four below ahead of his title challenge at UFC 308.

The Best Max Holloway Knockouts

4. Max Holloway vs. Jose Aldo

Brazil’s Jose Aldo is one of the greatest strikers in the history of the sport. With a strong Muay Thai base, incredible kicks, knees, and punches, Aldo was able to become a WEC and a two-time UFC champion with a whopping seven title defenses.

Max Holloway was a young up-and-comer who had just earned the interim featherweight title. Against the reigning undisputed champion Aldo, Holloways came into their fight in 2017 at UFC 212 a big underdog. Ultimately, it would become a major shift in the history of the sport. The Hawaiian striker not only beat Aldo but dominated him with a combination of punches and flurries that never seemed to end. This fight earned him the undisputed title and it became one of the best Max Holloway Knockouts in UFC history.

3. Max Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie

In a battle of MMA striking veterans, Holloway took on Chan-sung Jung, better known as The Korean Zombie. Live from Singapore, it was the main event and a matchup of two experts. Combined, these two athletes entered the match with 55 total MMA fights. Holloway began his career in 2010 and the Korean Zombie started in 2007, this fight went down in 2023.

It was a dominant performance from the Hawaiian athlete. The Korean-born athlete was not able to keep up with the combinations and flurries that poured from Holloway. It became a retirement match for The Korean Zombie and one of the most memorable Max Holloway Knockouts in MMA history.

2. Max Holloway vs. Brian Ortega

To defend his featherweight title, Holloway took on the US-Mexican athlete Brian Ortega. The Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt ‘T-City’ Ortega had never tasted defeat in his entire career up to this point and was set to be a major test for the Hawaiian champion.

However, it instead became one of the best performances from the champion and nearly the best Max Holloway Knockouts we’ve ever seen. Over their 20-minute bout, Holloway landed over 300 strikes on his opponent en route to a stoppage victory. It was a brutal performance.

1. Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje

To the surprise of no one, Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje is ranked number one as the absolute best of Max Holloway Knockouts. At UFC 300, Holloways went up in weight to face the perennial top-ranked contender and hard-hitting slugger Justin Gaethje. The two were set to duke it out for the BMF title.

After five rounds of back-and-forth action, ‘Blessed‘ pointed to the mat in the final seconds of the bout, and the point would become iconic. The two stepped into the pocket and began trading flurries. Holloway landed an overhand that put down his opponent and left him stiff. Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje is an iconic knockout, simply an unforgettable moment.

Fight week for the UFC 308 pay-per-view this Saturday has kicked off with the release of the promotion’s latest Countdown episode.

Under the spotlight in this edition is the headliner between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway and the co-main event between Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev.

Saturday’s lineup is topped by an intriguing championship clash, with featherweight kingpin Topuria (15-0) looking to add a first successful defense to his reign, which got underway with a memorable knockout victory over Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298 this past February.

If “El Matador” is to continue his rule atop the 145-pound mountain, he must record a victory over Holloway (26-7). “Blessed” will ride a three-fight win streak into his latest opportunity to regain the title, most recently getting the better of Justin Gaethje in brutal fashion up at lightweight to capture the symbolic BMF belt at UFC 300.

Before those two collide in the main event at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena, the stakes will be high for a crucial five-round middleweight clash.

After dismantling Ikram Aliskerov in quick time to emerge victorious from the UFC’s first event in Saudi Arabia, former champion Whittaker (26-7) will return to the Middle East to face his original opponent for this past June, the undefeated Chimaev (13-0). While “The Reaper” has gone 2-0 this year after outpointing Paulo Costa to open his 2024 campaign, “Borz” hasn’t made the walk since a narrow decision win over Kamaru Usman last October.

Ahead of those two contests in the United Arab Emirates, fans can catch previews in the full episode of UFC 308 Countdown on the promotion’s YouTube channel.

Tom Aspinall previews Max Holloway vs. Ilia Topuria UFC 308 fight: ‘Topuria can put him down’

Tom Aspinall Max Holloway Ilia Topuria

Tom Aspinall is hyped for UFC 308 and has taken time to comb over the intricacies that might decide the thrilling main event between Max Holloway and Ilia Topuria.

Last in action at UFC 304, Aspinall has been biding his time waiting for Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic to settle their business inside the cage finally. In the meantime, Aspinall is keeping his eyes on the combat sports world and is looking forward to the excellent pay-per-view card coming our way this Saturday, October 28th.

In an interview with Adam Catteral of UFC on TNT Sports, the current UFC interim heavyweight champion broke down all the incoming action and spoke on the stylistic matchup between the two fighters.

Tom Aspinall speaks on the incoming mega Banger between Max Holloway and Ilia Topuria at UFC 308

“Being a bit of a shorter guy, what he does really well, Ilia Topuria, is shorter arms so with this fight, he’s going to be looking to get inside and the body hooks, the low kicks and the shot in is what he’s looking for” Tom Aspinall began (H/T Sportskeeda). “Max Holloway (has a) completely contrasting style.”

“The only similar thing is they both like to box, quite a lot,” Aspinall continued. “Max Holloway’s style, he’ll have his hands quite low and his chin quite high… The volume of punches that he throws in a fight is unbelievable. The guy has got ridiculous conditioning.”

When the UFC interim heavyweight champion was asked if he believed whether or not Topuria would attempt to utilize his grappling, he responded:

“I think he’s going to keep him guessing with the takedowns, yeah. It is (hard to take Holloway down), but the threat is there and sometimes that can affect your defensive boxing a little bit because you’re thinking about the takedowns. The hands are low, you’re getting ready for a shot all the time and punches are coming over the top.”

“I think and I’m going to go out there and say, Ilia Topuria can put him down,” Tom Aspinall continued. “He’s got the power to and he mixes it up so well between the disciplines.”

In the interview below, skip to the 6:00 minute mark to hear Aspinall’s breakdown for yourself.
