It was little over a week ago now that Nate Diaz sent the mixed martial arts world in to a frenzy with his win over Conor McGregor. The UFC featherweight champion had his hopes of twin title glory dashed on the rocks when the lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of UFC 196, and Diaz furthered the Irish star’s woes. Much like his dream of holding two consecutive UFC belts from two fights, McGregor’s attempt to extend his win streak to eight in the UFC was also snubbed when Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round of their welterweight burner.

It was indeed an entertaining fight, a scrap that saw both men land some solid shots, and for the first time in his UFC career ‘The Notorious’ was wobbled more than once. When the fight went to the mat, it was all Diaz, as the Gracie BJJ black belt quickly took the back and sunk in a rear naked choke.

Suddenly Nate Diaz was the name on every MMA fan’s lips, and Conor McGregor was left with some serious points to sharpen up on. Less than a week had passed when UFC president Dana White revealed that McGregor would return at UFC 200, but no word of what’s next for the man that just defeated him? The featherweight title needs defending, and apparently ‘The Notorious’ was keen to get back on the horse as soon as possible, but then the following report by Middle Easy owner Zeus Tipado on Twitter.

Interesting. It’s worth noting that the legitimacy of this report was brought in to question by numerous followers of Tipado, but he argues vehemently that he has a legitimate source. Also of importance is that Diaz would likely never make 145 pounds, so it might have meant McGregor stalling his UFC featherweight title defense yet again.

What do you think?

UFC 196 was one of the most monumental events in the promotion’s history, and didn’t even transpire with the originally scheduled main event. The lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos left a hole that only Nate Diaz could fill opposite Conor McGregor. The UFC featherweight champion was looking to make waves in a new division at 155 pounds, but ended up agreeing to a welterweight affair with the Gracie jiu jitsu black belt.

The glorious 11-day rivalry that ‘The Notorious’ and Diaz shared provided more crazy moments than most full length beefs in the UFC, and the fight did not disappoint one bit. A back-and-forth first round left McGregor clearly reeling, feeling the pace as he breathed very heavily in the corner. Coach John Kavanagh said ‘you’re fully recovered,’ but the truth was far from that statement.

McGregor got taken in to deep territory by Diaz, a place we’d never seen the Irish boxer before, and the Stockton slugger began to rock the featherweight champ to the jaw. In a very uncharacteristic display, McGregor shot in for the takedown, effectively sealing his own fate against the far superior grappler. It was just moments before McGregor would eat some shots from a mounting Diaz, and eventually give up his back to tap from a rear naked choke.

All the hype and BS aside, this was really a great fight, and both men gave it their all. Unfortunately for McGregor it just wasn’t good enough against Diaz. We’ve seen a ton of reactions and opinions about the fight, but the latest video released by the UFC shows some truly heart wrenching footage.

So the UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor made his welterweight debut tonight (Saturday March 5, 2016) in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a crazy night of fights that saw Holly Holm dethroned in her first attempted title defense against Miesha Tate, and the fun was just getting started there. When McGregor and Diaz finally faced off, the crowd was electric, and they did not disappoint.

The two brash trash talkers slugged it out in a thriller that didn’t even last two rounds, but very few people put money on how this fight ended. Diaz rocked McGregor in the stand up striking, and tapped him out when the fight went to the mat. It seems for all the hype and media coverage surrounding McGregor, it all means absolutely nothing on fight night.

So where did it all go wrong for Conor McGregor? Well, moving up two weight classes probably wasn’t the wisest idea in the first place, but was there an element of ‘The Notorious’ buying in to his own hype? The similarities between McGregor and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey are eery, and they don’t end there.

Thje internet has reacted to the McGregor loss with a torrent of hurtful memes aimed at the fallen Irishman, who goes back to the featherweight division with a loss, albeit still holding his 145-pound title.

This classic is more relevant now than ever before. LOL…But what about the Diaz brother’s reaction? Don’t worry, they are in on the fun too…
