During this time, Allot of changes have had to be made to the UFC’s usual fight week practices in order to accommodate restrictions in place for COVID-19.

One fight week event that will still remain is media day. The day held for media to interview fighters competing on the card that weekend will still go ahead however it will see a different platform than the traditional face to face interviews.

In a report by MMA Junkie, It was stated UFC 249 would be holding a virtual media day.

“Media members who register for the event in advance will be able to participate in digital scrum-style interviews with fighters from the main card and featured preliminary card bouts”.

They also shared that the same format is intended to be used during the event with winners partaking in virtual scrums after their bouts.

With UFC 249 taking place at the VyStar Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, and the next two UFC events also being held there on the 13th and 16th of May, The UFC intends to use the same format for media on all events.

Here is a list of all the fighters that will be participating in the UFC 249 media day.

  • Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje
  • Henry Cejudo, Dominik Cruz
  • Francis Ngannou, Jairzinho Rozenstruik
  • Jeremy Stephens, Calvin Kattar
  • Greg Hardy, Yorgan De Castro
  • Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis

It is not clear how long the UFC intends for media to use a digital platform as opposed to attending the events. With the plan for future events to be held on the newly purchased private island “Fight Island,” the days of media covering the UFC from the venue seem far in the distance.

With safety as there priority having extra people inside the venue isn’t possible during this pandemic.

Between “Hey pussy, are you still there?” and “Kiss them feet Nazi,” it’s easy to think that all UFC fighters hate each other, or at least feign enough hate to sell some tickets. Donald Cerrone and Benson Henderson proved otherwise during their staredown at the UFC Fight Night 59 media day yesterday. Let’s timestamp the awesomeness:

0:04 – Cerrone steps into frame and excitedly claps his hands and stomps his foot because he’s just so damn excited to see his buddy Benson again. They embrace like two long-lost friends.

0:10 – Dana White reminds them they’re here to promote a fight and tells them to square off. Cerrone, who’s already four inches taller than Henderson, gets up on his toes, and Henderson just smiles and laughs because his buddy Donald is such a clown.

0:15 – Dana tells them to “face forward, shoulder to shoulder,” and Cerrone takes the command as literally as possible, then starts nudging at Henderson like a young boy pestering his older brother. Cerrone, wearing a soon-to-be-banned Budweiser shirt, announces that “rounds are on ‘Cowboy’ after this fight.”

0:35 – They return each other’s respective hat, and Cerrone goes full McConaughey, telling Henderson, “See you on the other side.” These guys, man.

[VIDEO] Jose Aldo Shoves Chad Mendes at the UFC 179 Media Day

In a move nobody could have possibly seen coming (nobody I tells ya!), Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes got a little physical at today’s UFC 179 media day. More specifically, Aldo shoved Mendes after the two exchanged some words (I can’t be certain, but I’m pretty sure Mendes told Aldo he was going to “f*ck him up”). To reiterate: There is absolutely *no way* this was staged or pre-rehearsed, so all you conspiracy theorists can just stuff it.

Seriously though, how hilarious would it be if the UFC regularly started staging confrontations to sell PPV’s? The Jones-Cormier scuffle earned them a spot on Sportscenter and easily a couple hundred (thousand) more PPV buys, so the potential is obviously there. Aldo’s hype and status as a PPV draw is ever-dwindling, so what better opportunity to play up the grudge angle? The format is simple: Have both guys talk some smack on Twitter, get in a controlled scuffle at media day, and I dunno, maybe have Mendes take a steel chair to Aldo’s back at the weigh-ins. I know what you’re thinking…
