The main event of UFC Fight Night 84 saw a mixed martial arts (MMA) legend and one of the most recognized MMA fighters in the world meet inside the Octagon. Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight title holder Anderson Silva (33-7, 1 NC) fought Michael Bisping (28-7) in the O2 Arena in London, England.

“The Count” walked out of the O2 Arena with the biggest win of his career.

Bisping threw out a head kick early, but Silva slipped out of the way. “The Count” landed a right hand and Silva responded with a kick to the body. “The Spider” evaded another head kick. Silva took an aggressive approach and missed a hook. Silva slipped two kicks from Bisping. “The Count” landed a left hand that had Silva off balance to end the round.

Bisping pressured Silva against the fence and kept throwing strikes as Silva tried baiting him in. “The Spider” connected with a jab. “The Count” remained patient as Silva tried to play mind games. Silva landed a leg kick. Bisping dropped Silva with a right hand and rained down punches. He remained in top control to end the round.

The third round began and Bisping continued to push the pace. Silva caught a kick and Bisping was on his back briefly. Silva threw a head kick. “The Count” found the mark for a jab. Silva landed a knee to the body. Silva stalked his opponent and dropped him with a flying knee as the horn in round three sounded. Bisping took his eyes off his opponent and was focused on his mouth piece on the canvas, which caused him to get dropped by the knee.

Silva and his corner thought the fight was over, but referee Herb Dean did not call the fight. Due to the confusion, Bisping was not able to get a cutman to work on his eye.

Round four was underway and Bisping swung at Silva, who was against the fence. “The Count” was nailed with a kick to the groin and time was called. Bisping threw a barrage of punches with Silva’s back against the fence. “The Spider” stuck in a jab. Silva landed a kick to the body. Silva continued to put his back against the fence. Silva was accidentally poked in the eye and once again time was called. Silva landed an inside elbow and a left hand had Bisping wobbled a bit. A superman punch found the mark for Silva to end the round.

A high kick from Silva was partially blocked at the start of the final round. Bisping’s face was a bloody mess at this point, but he still kept fighting. Silva found a home for the high kick. Herb Dean called for time and the doctor checked Bisping. The fight resumed quickly. A front kick from Silva rocked “The Count.” Silva landed two knees and an inside kick.

The score totals revealed that all three judges gave Bisping three rounds and the fight.

Final Result: Michael Bisping def. Anderson Silva via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47)

Anderson Silva will return to the UFC against veteran Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping at tomorrow’s (Sat., February 27, 2016) UFC Fight Night 84 from the O2 Arena in London, England, and true to form, the brash British trash talker has driven the smack talk with his endless criticism of ‘The Spider’s’ recent failed drug tests for two anabolic steroids.

All of the tension was ramped up at a media open workout session in Torrance, California earlier this month, where Bisping made fun of Silva’s famously blasted defense that his steroid failures had come due to a tainted sexual performance in an unmarked blue vial. The normally calm Brazilian quickly quipped that there would be no Viagra this time, only ‘my punch in (Bisping’s) face.’

It’s apparently worn on the longtime former middleweight champion, as Silva could be seen snubbing Bisping without a handshake at yesterday’s face-off from the London Tower Bridge. The discord continued on in today’s weigh-ins, where the two foes engaged in a heated staredown that required several men to step between them:

AndersonBis[pingWeigh-In1

‘The Count’ was extra riled up at that point, even going as far as to put Silva on blast by calling him a ‘fraud’:

“This man is a cheat,” Bisping said. “This man is a fraud. And I will make you pay for your mistakes tomorrow night my friend. All the needles in your ass, all the steroids will not help you, you p*ssy.”

‘The Spider’ seemed calm in response, instead simply answering a question about going for another run at the belt if he beats Bisping:

“I think so,” Silva said. “I’ve been working hard for this one. I think this fight Saturday night is good for me, good for Bisping. And let’s go. It’s the show.”

It would appear that the gloves are off for this one, as both fighters appear motivated and ready to go to war. Who are you picking to emerge victorious in London tomorrow?

Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping:

Mike Drahota:

There’s no doubt that Silva certainly deserves a spot among the fight game’s greats for his record-setting title reign and unparalleled knockout prowess in the Octagon. However, weighing in his recent drug test failures and suspensions, his injury, and th fact that he doesn’t have an official win since 2012, I was actually leaning towards Bisping. That changed when the two were face-to-face, as Silva undoubtedly got the better of the loudmouth ‘Count,’ who seemingly reverted back to his more brash heel ways for this bout. While the Cypriot has looked very serviceable during his recent two-fight win streak, Silva seems motivated and angry like he was against Chael Sonnen, and that should spell trouble for Bisping. Silva via round two TKO.

Rory Kernaghan:

I can’t say it was difficult picking this fight at all. Outside his high pace and cardio-based gameplan, there’s unfortunately not much more I can say Michael Bisping offers Anderson Silva. The former middleweight champion has the footwork, the striking power and speed advantage, the height and reach advantage, and the Jiu-jitsu advantage. It would be foolish to think this fight would go any other way except ‘The Spider’s’ in such a pairing, Anderson Silva by knockout round one.

Mike Henken:

I completely understand that “The Spider” is not the same version of himself that once ruled the middleweight division for nearly seven years. Winless since 2012, Silva suffered a gruesome broken leg back in 2013, and is now returning after a yearlong layoff after testing positive for steroids in a fight that he didn’t look amazing in anyway. However, I just have a feeling in my gut that we may see some glimpses of vintage Silva and his elite level Muay Thai on display in London. Bisping has looked good on his recent two-fight win streak, and has always possessed solid footwork, crisp combos, and strong cardio. At the end of the day, however, I see the man many consider the greatest of all-time getting it done early. Silva by second round TKO.

Gegard Mousasi vs. Thales Leites:

Mike Drahota:

The middleweight co-main event may not have anywhere near the amount of attention the main event is generating, but it’s nonetheless a pivotal affair for both ranked fighters. Mousasi should look to keep this one standing and use his laser-precise jab to pick Leites apart on the feet, but if the Brazilian learned anything from his split decision loss to Bisping, he’ll look to drag this fight to the ground and utilize his world champion-level BJJ skills. I feel like he’ll be able to at some point, and while it may not lead to a stoppage, I still feel Leites gets the win. I’m taking Leites by unanimous decision.

Rory Kernaghan:

Gegard Mousasi and Thales Leites is a great match for the grappling fans, but one I feel will play out on the feet. With the Brazilian looking to showcase his striking a lot more in his latest fights, I feel he’ll look to capitalize on the openings that Mousasi has shown in his recent outings ‘The Dreamcatcher’ has experienced mixed results since joining the UFC, but this could well motivate him to pull a performance out of the bag here. It’s a tough one but I’m going to pick Leites by decision.

Mike Henken:

This is an interesting clash between two dangerous fighters who are both coming off of losses. Mousasi hasn’t lived up to his hype in the UFC in my opinion, but I still feel as if he has a lot of a potential to do so. An experienced kickboxer, “The Dreamcatcher” has a wide array of striking attacks in his arsenal to go along with a slick and sneaky submission game. Leites, on the other hand, is a strong Brazilian Jiu-jitsu artist with serious power in his hands. I don’t see “The Dreamcatcher” getting submitted here, and if he can avoid the big shots standing, it’s his fight to lose. Expect Mousasi to pick apart Leites on the outside to earn a decision victory.
