On Saturday, January 19, the UFC returns to Brazil for their first offering of 2013. In the main event, middleweight favorites Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping square off with a championship opportunity (somewhat) hanging in the balance.

If Bisping is successful in defeating his Brazilian foe, he will collect a long-awaited title shot against Anderson Silva later in the year. However, Dana White has already made it clear that Belfort will not be afforded the same luxury.

In the co-main event, C.B. Dollaway returns to action after defeating Jason Miller last year. The man standing across the cage is fellow TUF finalist Daniel Sarafian, who was forced out of his tournament final due to injury.

However, if you don’t know where and when to tune in, it’s going to be hard to catch all of the action. That’s why BR MMA is here; to hook you up with the details.

Facebook Prelims:

Only one fight goes down on Facebook this time around, and it’s an interesting lightweight battle between two fighters looking to keep their job.

Francisco Trinaldo is possibly the largest lightweight that the division has ever seen, and he squares off against little-known C.J. Keith. Both men are coming off of losses in their UFC debuts.

To see this fight, tune in to the official UFC Facebook page at 5:35 p.m. EST.

FUEL Prelims:

At 6 p.m. EST, tune in to FUEL TV (assuming that you are lucky enough to have the channel in your area) for six fights full of UFC notables and rising stars.

Fights on the FUEL portion of UFC on FX 7 include:

  • Godofredo Pepey vs. Milton Vieira
  • Andrew Craig vs. Ronny Markes
  • Diego Nunes vs. Nik Lentz
  • Edson Barboza vs. Lucas Martins
  • Yuri Alcantara vs. Pedro Nobre
  • Wagner Prado vs. Ildemar Alcantara

While not all of the names may jump out at you as stars, Diego Nunes and Edson Barboza are both stars who could be featured on any pay-per-view main card.

FX Main Card:

When the clock strikes 9 p.m. EST, it’s time to flip over to FX (preferably the HD version) for the main card. On that event, you’ll see the following fights:

  • Vitor Belfort vs. Michael Bisping
  • Godofredo Pepey vs. Milton Vieira
  • Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell
  • Thiago Tavares vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov

That’s it for the the live fights coming to you from Sao Paulo, however, make sure you tune in to FUEL TV at 11 p.m. for the post-fight show with Jay Glazer.

Stay tuned to Bleacher Report MMA for all things UFC on FX 7, including live results and post-fight analyses that you can’t find anywhere else.

Michael Bisping is one of the most dynamic figures in MMA. A lot of people hate him, but we’re starting to see a trend lately of people starting to like him, too.

Bisping competes tomorrow night in the main event of UFC on FX 7 against former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort. Dana White has stated that if Bisping gets by “The Phenom,” he will get a shot at UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Can Bisping finally get over the hump tomorrow night and get that elusive title shot? Here are some reasons you should root for him to do exactly that.

The UFC is in Brazil for its first event of 2013.  The card, which will be broadcast on FX on Saturday night, will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping.

A Bisping win will earn him a long-desired shot at UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, while Belfort is most likely fighting for little more than pride. Well, pride and a hefty paycheck.

The two fighters had a heated staredown following Thursday’s pre-fight press conference, so things could get interesting when they face off again after Friday’s weigh-ins.  The weigh-ins will take place on Friday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. ET from Sao Paulo’s Ginasio Estadual Geraldo Jose de Almeida and Bleacher Report will have the results as they happen.

UFC on FX 7: All Eyes on Michael Bisping

Michael Bisping is one fight away from getting everything he wants, and the the only obstacle standing between the former TUF winner and a long-awaited shot at middleweight king Anderson Silva is Vitor Belfort.

The two men will mix it up this Saturday night at UFC on FX 7 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. While Bisping‘s momentum is on the rise, getting past “The Phenom” has proven to be a difficult task. But should “The Count” make good on his promise to break the MMA legend down, the next title opportunity will be his for the taking.

Success this weekend in Brazil will be the culmination of a long journey for the 33-year-old Brit. Since winning Season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter, Bisping has stepped into the Octagon on 16 occasions, with all but four of those outings resulting in victories. A quick look at the losses on his resume show those setbacks have come against some of the best in the sport (Rashad Evans, Chael Sonnen, Wanderlei Silva, and Dan Henderson), with only the bout against “Hendo” at UFC 100 being a clear-cut defeat.

Over this time, MMA fans have developed a love/hate relationship with the brash Englishman. Outside of fellow TUF alums Josh Koscheck and Rashad Evans, there is no other fighter more widely booed than Bisping, but it is a role he’s embraced wholeheartedly.

He doesn’t care if fans don’t like him. He doesn’t care if some show up hoping he’ll lose. All he cares about is putting everything he has into the fight, and all criticisms aside, it is difficult to find a mixed martial artist more passionate about what he does than Bisping.

In a sport where fighters are cautious about what they say to the media, the middleweight contender is a breath of fresh air. There is never any hesitation for him to say what is on his mind, and he unloads those thoughts in rapid-fire fashion. His opinions have a certain level of conviction that are free of schtick, and in the current trend of trash talking to build up pre-fight hype, there is no denying that Bisping, in fact, “gets it.”

Strong performances inside the cage and the drive to push his profile higher in the public realm have brought Bisping one fight away from a title shot. Again, defeating Belfort will be no easy task, but with the tools Bisping brings to the table, there are several stylistic advantages that play out strongly in his favor.

Defeating the Lion in the Lion’s Den

Over a 17-year career, Belfort has proven his abilities when it comes to handling business inside the cage. It has also become evident that the 35-year-old is front heavy where the action is concerned. Working behind an aggressive attack, Belfort historically wastes little time looking to put his power on the opposition.

Of his 21 victories, 15 have come inside the opening frame, and while being a “fast starter” is a strength in the fight game, not being able to sustain that explosion (borrowed from Benson Henderson) has proven to be costly for the Brazilian.

Bisping‘s approach inside the Octagon is the exact opposite. From bell to bell, he pours out a high-output striking attack with a focus of breaking the opposition down over the course of the fight. His kickboxing background provides him the luxury of the right amount of space, and solid hand speed and footwork allow him to close distance quickly when he so chooses.

In the fight with Belfort, both will be important. If Bisping can avoid the former light heavyweight champion’s power throughout the opening minutes, the damage will begin to add up. His ability to push the pace has the potential to pay dividends as the fight carries into later rounds.

If Bisping can exhaust Belfort‘s gas tank, the fight could shift to be a one-sided affair in the later rounds. It is in those cases where Bisping excels. In past fights, when the opposition has begun to fade, Bisping turns up the intensity and closes out the action in impressive fashion.

A Date with the Spider

Few divisions have undergone the type of makeover the UFC’s 185-pound weight class has experienced. Two years ago, many believed Silva had defeated all potential contenders and cleaned out the division. While that may have been the case back then, the current picture is just starting to heat up.

There is a solid collection of talent coming over from Strikeforce, and with contender Chris Weidman set to return later this year, the timing is right for Bisping to get the title shot. Now the only thing left to do is earn it. In order to do so, he’ll have to defeat a legend in front of a passionate crowd filled with fight-frenzied Brazilians.

It’s a fitting stage for Bisping to prove he deserves a title shot. Now we wait to see if he can capitalize on the opportunity.

Bisping and Belfort Get Physical at UFC on FX 7 Press Conference

Although tensions between Michael Bisping and Vitor Belfort seemed fairly tame leading up to Saturday’s UFC on FX 7, they flared up at Thursday’s press conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The two men threw verbal barbs in each other’s direction for most of the 45-minute pre-fight press conference, but in the obligatory staredown, things quickly heated up.

As the pugilists squared off, Belfort boldly put his right hand directly against Bisping’s chin. The Brit didn’t care for the picture that was being painted, so he shoved “The Phenom’s” arm to the side.

Clearly, Belfort didn’t care about Bisping’s feelings in regards to hand placement, as he returned his fist to the spot of agitation. “The Count” was clearly angered and pushed it away once again.

When the UFC’s Marshall Zelaznik stepped in to separate the two, Bisping loudly declared “I’ll f***ing see you Saturday.”

The former light heavyweight champion seemed unmoved by the threat, as he repeatedly exclaimed “I’m ready!”

The UFC posted a video of the incident on its official YouTube channel earlier today, and you can watch it above.

Since the press conference, Bisping has turned to Twitter to let out some steam and mock his overheated foe.

Shortly after, “The Count” returned for another jab.

Finally, he returned for one more.

Additionally, ESPN posted an audio clip interviewing Bisping about the incident. The fired-up Bisping let loose once again. This time, he lost about 20 years of maturity by making comments about whether or not “The Phenom” has male genitalia. It goes to show you exactly how heated the middleweight contender truly is.

“Does he have a penis? He is a penis,” Bisping said. “Just because he is a penis doesn’t mean he has a penis.”

With things heating up only two days before the UFC’s return to Brazil, there could be enough tension to garner some decent ratings on an otherwise underwhelming card.

UFC on FX 7 takes place on Saturday night, with the main card airing at 9 p.m. EST on FX.
