Bellator welterweight Michael Page is so determined to KO Douglas Lima that he’s willing to shun a title shot for a third fight with the Brazilian.

Page avenged his 2019 loss to Lima by earning a victory in their headline bout at Bellator 267 on Friday. In their previous meeting, “MVP” was spectacularly knocked out by Lima, and this time around, he was looking to return the favor. All Page managed, however, was a controversial split-decision win. Two judges scored it 29-28 for Page, while the third had it 29-28 for Lima.

The victory places Page as the likely next challenger for champ Yaroslav Amosov and extends his win streak to six fights. Lima is now on a three-fight losing streak after being dethroned as champ in July by Amosov, and prior to that in 2020, losing his middleweight debut to Gegard Mousasi.

Michael Page Vows To KO Lima In Third Fight, Doesn’t Care About Title Shot

Despite earning redemption for his loss to Lima—the only of his career— Page told press post-fight that he wasn’t satisfied with the narrow victory. The 34-year-old said that his chief ambition now is to get another crack at the Brazilian.

“In all honesty, I’ll probably push to run this one back again,” Page told media at the Bellator post-fight press conference (h/t MMA JUNKIE) “Let’s do five rounds, why not? Let’s go longer.”

“If by the end of the third round that had happened again, I got two more rounds to find you and finish you properly. I’ve gone from one end to the other and hopefully, I find that balanced middle and finish him.”

For Page, it seems settling a score takes precedence over all else, including becoming welterweight champ. The Englishman said that finishing Lima means a lot more to him than winning the belt.

“It’s a belt, who cares?” said Page. “How many people that are titleholders are nowhere near as popular as I am? The belt don’t mean anything. It does obviously, but for me, it doesn’t. That moment right there (the decision win over Lima), there’s so many Bellator belt holders that can’t pull off what I did today.”

“I feel like people are drawn to me because of my enjoyment of the sport, not because I’m chasing anything. It’s about my journey and pushing myself. I didn’t get to prove that today. I won but I didn’t make his eyes roll to the back of his head and not get back up. I know I can do it, so I prefer to run it back.”

What do you think? Should Michael Page focus on the title, rather than Douglas Lima?

Michael Page: Leon Edwards Will Never Get A Title Shot

Michael Page believes his fellow countrymen, Leon Edwards won’t ever fight for UFC gold.

Edwards is currently the third-ranked welterweight contender and coming off a dominant win over Nate Diaz at UFC 263. However, for Page, he believes Edwards won’t get a title shot because of his personality and the fact he doesn’t draw eyes. Page gave the example that most people know Edwards for is getting sucker-punched by Masvidal and nearly getting knocked out by Diaz in the final minute.

“He has killed some great fighters, but he will never get a title shot,” Page told Metro. “His biggest moment in MMA was getting sucker-punched by another MMA fighter. That’s disgusting. That does show he is not branding himself correctly, maybe it’s not in his personality but I think he just cares more about the fight, which I get and he is great at it but he needs to understand it is a partnership that needs to be at hand here and he needs to be a bit more aware of that.”

Kamaru Usman, the current welterweight champion, will defend his belt at UFC 268 in a rematch against Colby Covington. After that, it’s uncertain what would be next for Usman, but Page doubts it would be Edwards. However, he does hope the Brit does fight for UFC gold but he knows “Rocky” needs to market himself better.

“It’s disappointing because I want him to do well and I know he’s a sick fighter, I have sparred him before, worked with him before but I don’t see him blowing up in the same way because if you are not drawing in those people then promoters are not going to care for you. That affects your career. If you are not drawing in those people, those promoters are not going to care enough to promote you,” Page said. “They might pick this guy who has only had two fights in the UFC but is making a lot of noise and think: ‘We will give him the title fight instead’. It is wrong, but as a promoter, I get why they would make that decision over what is technically right.”

Michael Page is set to return on Friday in London in the main event of Bellator 267 as he rematches Douglas Lima. Leon Edwards, meanwhile, does not have his next fight booked and hasn’t fought since June where he beat Nate Diaz by decision.

Do you agree with Michael Page that Leon Edwards will never get a title shot?

Bellator welterweight Michael Page has narrated a harrowing near-death experience he went through while in Tobago in 2020.

Page is widely regarded as one of the most unorthodox and entertaining fighters in MMA. The 34-year-old boasts 20 professional MMA fights, falling on the wrong side of the result just once in his entire career.

“Venom,” who was born and resides in London, England, has deep connections to the Caribbean. His father hailed from Trinidad, while his mother was from Jamaica. It’s unsurprising, therefore, that his brother Kalon Kingsley Page chose to get married earlier this year in Tobago, the other island that makes up the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Having defeated Shinsho Anzai at Bellator & Rizin: Japan months prior, MVP was in attendance for his sibling’s special day.

While the trip saw a joyous occasion take place, Page has revealed a tough experience he went through while he was on the southernmost Caribbean island, one which he believes could have taken his life.

“For my brother’s wedding, we was out in Tobago. He got married over there. This was a couple years ago.  We was down by the beach, a little cafe called ‘Waves.’ And we realize why the cafe was called Waves because the current there was ridiculously strong. I was in at my shins. The water’s in at my shins and it’s pulling me in,” said Page. “So we said to the kids none of the kids can even touch the water. It was only the adults that could go and swim. And even then, we’re like, ‘Make sure you’re careful and make sure you’re paying attention to each other,’ blah, blah, blah.

“So yeah, we’re having an amazing day, we come back up to the restaurant bay and just getting cleaned up and drying ourselves and getting changed and stuff. And one of the waiters were like, ‘Is your party all here?’ And we’re like, looking around, like, ‘Yeah. Why? Why?’ He’s like, ‘I feel someone is floating out there…’

“He came over so relaxed. And he’s like, ‘I feel someone is floating out there.’ So we look over, and we could see something. It looked like somebody was out there. So immediately, everybody is like, ‘What?!’ So I just ripped off my shirt and ran out,” added Page. “I swear to you I nearly died trying to get to him. Because the current is so mad. It was so difficult to get to him. I’m swimming, swimming, swimming. And every time I was swimming forward, it felt like I was getting pulled back. The water was kinda pulling me down and back. It was horrible. Luckily, somebody else, like a local, had swum out as well.

“So literally as I got to the body, somebody else got there. It was somebody. He was face down. I flipped his body up so he face was out of the water. The other guy was pulling him to shore. And I was trying to keep his head up, so I had to be under water trying to keep his head up, then go up, then go back down.”

Tragically, the man, who turned out to be in his 70s and swam there everyday, passed away. Locals believe he may have had a heart attack while in the water and that nothing could have been done to save his life, despite the heroic efforts of Page.

This Friday, Bellator will return to London with an event headlined by a blockbuster rematch between Michael Page and Douglas Lima. In the main event of Bellator 267, the two 170-pound stars will clash inside The SSE Arena, Wembley. England’s “Venom” will be headlining the first Bellator card to be held in his country’s capital since November 2019.

In front of his home fans, Page will look to avenge his defeat to the #1-ranked welterweight. If he succeeds in doing so, he’ll have extended his win streak to six. Since suffering his first loss in the sport against the Brazilian back in 2019, Page has looked unstoppable. His five-fight streak has featured four finishes and just one decision.

Lima, meanwhile, will look to rebound from back-to-back losses by adding another defeat to the record of MVP. After beating the Englishman at Bellator 221, “The Phenom” became a three-time Bellator Welterweight World Champion with a decision victory over Rory MacDonald five months later. However, a failed effort to capture the vacant middleweight belt, followed by a defeat to Yaroslav Amosov that left him beltless in Bellator, saw Lima succumb to consecutive defeats for the first time in over a decade.

With both men targeting a victory over the other as their route to the welterweight title, Friday’s main event is sure to bring fireworks.

Who do you think will have their hand raised at Bellator 267? Douglas Lima or Michael Page?

Bellator 267 has just wrapped up from Wembley’s SSE Arena in London, and we’ve got your results and main event highlights right here!

The main event of Bellator 267 saw Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) facing former welterweight champion Douglas Lima again in the main event. Page had been asking for this fight since he lost to Lima in 2019. Lima, having lost the title at Bellator 260, has found himself in a position where he had to take a fight with the man he felt needed to work his way up to him. The loss to Yaroslov Amosov and his loss to Gegard Mousasi put Lima at two losses in a row, so he needed a win in London.

Page, on the other hand, entered the fight with five wins in a row and was looking to avenge his only loss against Lima. With that momentum and all this time to prepare since their last match, this all made for a fun fight.

Here are the highlights of what unfolded when the two locked up in the rematch.

Looking to top his last viral knockout against Michael Venom Page (MVP) back in 2019, former 170-pound champ Douglas Lima intends to catch lightning in a bottle once again.

Slated for a second showdown at Bellator 267 this Friday, Lima will fight Page but this time it’s on MVP’s home soil. Taking place inside the SSE Arena, in London, England, Lima will look to line himself up with a fourth crack at a welterweight title reign. But first, he must deal with a former opponent in Page, who is eager to erase that viral moment from the history books.

The two are set to collide on Friday night. Lima shared with MMA Junkie his thought process before a fight of this magnitude. In addition, the former welterweight king underlined that the best way to win a fight is by finishing the opponent.

“No, never. It’s never just about the win,” he stated. “You’ve got to finish him. For me, the best way to win is to finishing the fight. That first one happened (and) went viral and I’m about to do the same thing this time around, even better.”

In 2020, Lima attempted to jump up to 185-pounds and challenge for a second title against Gegard Mousasi. The confident 33-year old came up short and returned to the 170-pound weight class where he would go on to lose again, but this time to the current, 170-pound titleholder, Yaroslav Amosov. After two consecutive losses, Lima is excited about another chance to take the world by storm.

“I’ve got a lot to prove to myself and to the fans, because my last two performances were not good. Not good at all. I understand that and I know the fans are frustrated as well. I got a lot of heated messages, you know what I mean? So I’ve got to show them what I can do and this is the perfect fight to show it. Lima said. It’s a big one, it’s a rematch over here in London and I’m super-excited. I’m pumped for it.”

With pressure mounting after back-to-back losses, Lima believes a second fight against Michael Page will showcase his readiness for another run at gold. Undoubtedly, a fight against MVP in London, England will certainly spark intrigue, especially if Lima can get the job done in style as he did in 2019. As the only man to stop MVP in MMA, Lima is confident he can capture another viral moment this Friday at Bellator 267.

Do you think Lima will finish MVP again?

Bellator 267 is invading London, England, this Friday, and Michael Page intends to outstrike Douglas Lima and exact revenge after being TKO’d in 2019.

The two welterweights are set to rematch in the SSE Arena in London, England. This Friday (October 1, 2021), Michael “Venom” Page (MVP) will have the opportunity to avenge his one and only loss inside the Bellator cage.

Michael Page was undefeated when the two locked horns for the first time. Though he fought with a very determined champion in their initial encounter. In typical fashion, MVP bounced around, with his hands at his waist, and attempted to blitzkrieg his way into the pocket. Lima, meanwhile, stood patiently and began to acclimate to Page’s striking.

Lima met MVP’s offense with wrestling and engaged in clinch work to get “Venom” to the mat early. In a wild sequence taking place in round two, Lima kicked MVP’s legs out from under him, and as he fell to the ground, the Brazilian delivered a crushing right hand to secure the results of their first fight.

Ahead of his second fight with the former champ, Page spoke with MMA Junkie and described the aggressive game plan he is taking with him to Bellator 267.

“I think it’s a very obvious one,” Page said. “His wrestling ability is unbelievable, great. Beautiful style. He’s actually got a really nice flow with his stand-up style. I just personally don’t find him that dangerous standing, which means I can be a little bit more reckless in terms of my positioning, which means I can get a lot more power in terms of my strikes.

“But he’s a person who’s always going to try to hold me down. I’m definitely going to be way more active on my back than Lima was in his last fight, give him a bit more to deal with and be worried about. Page said. But then, after that, I’m going to find my shot. I’m going to find my knee, I’m going to find a kick, I’m going to find a kick, I’m going to find something that’s going to put him on his ass.”

With their second bout popping off in MVP’s home turf, it appears Lima will be fighting more than just Page on Friday night. Looking to right the wrongs of his previous fight with the former 170-pound titleholder, Page has his eyes on the champion Yaroslav Amosov should he emerge from Bellator 267 with an emphatic victory.

Do you think Page will beat Lima in the rematch?
