Welterweight Michael Page put on another spectacular finish on the Bellator 237 main card.

Page took on Shinsho Anzai in a 173-pound catchweight fight. “Venom” put on a striking clinic, hurting Anzai badly in the first round, but not pulling off the finish. However, the second round was a very different story. Page connected with one big punch on an already damaged Anzai that stopped the fight dead in its tracks.

The referee stepped in to call off the action and Page once again left the cage with another knockout victory. You can check out the finish here below.

Douglas Lima doesn’t seem too impressed with Michael Page’s resume. However, Page thinks, if he continues his winning ways, the welterweight champ won’t be able to deny him another shot at beating him.

Page, who faces UFC veteran Shinsho Anzai this Saturday in Japan at Bellator 237, spoke to MMA Junkie on the matter recently. “Venom” plans to continue racking up victories until Lima can no longer deny him.

“Douglas Lima was speaking about me and said he’s never fought anybody as fast as me before and is excited and is looking forward to having that rematch,” Page said. “The second I won, he’s like, ‘Nah, you have to fight some more people.’

“He was like, ‘Nah, I’m not even letting you come back that quick,’ so, it’s going to happen either way. There’s going to be a point where he’s not going to be able to stop it, and like I said, if I keep doing what I’m doing now, stay active, stay busy, keep beating people, then 100 percent he can’t stop it.”

Lima and Page met in the semifinals of the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix Tournament earlier this year. During the fight, Page was knocked out in the second round, suffering the only loss of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Now, after back-to-back wins since the loss, both coming by way of a knockout, Page has his eyes set on a rematch with Lima.

Of course, he’ll likely need to get through a few more fights before earning such an opportunity.

What do you think about Page claiming Lima can’t deny him a rematch if he keeps winning?

Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima believes Michael Page needs a legitimate win before he can think of challenging him for the title.

Page suffered his first career loss after he was knocked out by Lima earlier this year. Lima was undoubtedly Page’s biggest and toughest opponent yet. But despite the setback, “MVP” returned to facing lower-level fighters which he has regularly been criticized for.

As a result, he is on a two-fight winning streak following wins over Richard Kiely and Giovanni Melillo. Page is now set to take on Shinsho Anzai at Bellator 237 this weekend.

But if he really wants a rematch with Lima — who is now the Bellator 170-pound king again — he needs better wins according to the champion:

“‘MVP,’ he’s definitely got to get a better win against ranked opponents,” Lima told MMA Junkie. “The fans have been saying that. It’s like (laughs), come on. The guy is a killer, he’s really good, but that’s not what it’s about when it comes to titles.

“I had to go through a whole tournament against the top guys in my division to get my belt back. So, that’s got to happen for him. But whenever he’s ready and does his work, I’ll be waiting.”

Lima certainly has a point.

But it’s also clear that the promotion values Page as a huge star. That is why “The Phenom” wouldn’t be surprised if the Briton ended up getting a title shot. However, he reiterates that the time needs to be right.

“It is what it is,” Lima added. “He’s tough, he’s doing his thing and when the time is right we’ll do it for sure.”

Do you agree with Lima?

Michael “Venom” Page racked up another impressive knockout win over the weekend, but former opponent Paul Daley was not impressed in the slightest.

Page headlined Bellator London opposite Giovanni Melillo, who Page toyed with for the majority of the first round before putting him away with a nasty knockout. It was Page’s second-straight knockout win since suffering the first defeat of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, a second-round knockout loss to Douglas Lima.

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Daley had some harsh criticism for the matchmaking Page has been receiving thus far in his MMA career, with a record of 16-1, and only having faced two truly notable names in that time in Lima and Daley.

“This is ridiculous,” Daley said. “You can’t continually beat these kind of opponents. Yes, he knocks them out, but he’s expected to knock them out. What does this prove, the fact that he knocked out a guy nobody will remember? It proves nothing. It proves nothing at all. Why didn’t he do that to me? Why didn’t he do that to Douglas Lima? Because he’s not of that caliber.

“I need to see more from Michael Page, in my opinion, whether it’s a rematch with me or a rematch with another top-tier fighter. Does a win over this guy warrant a title shot? In my opinion it doesn’t. Yes, he’s a star. Yes, people love him. But can he really fight? The two times he’s stepped up, on paper, he’s got a ‘victory’ over me.

“Most people, including me, thought he lost that fight. Second time he stepped up against the champion, who I went three rounds with, he gets knocked out cold. So he needs to fight solid opponents instead of feeding him these guys.”

Page and Daley fought back in February of 2019. It was a fairly uneventful bout, but Page was given the winning nod via unanimous decision. Daley believes he should’ve won the fight, and is open to a rematch in 2020, but wants the stakes raised.

“He couldn’t do what he normally does to everybody else (when we fought),” Daley said. “In my mind I thought I won that fight. The only way to make it more convincing to everybody else is to take him out before the judges. If that fight is going to happen it needs to be a big fight. It needs to happen here in 2020, at Wembley in 2020.”

What do you think about Daley’s criticism of the competition Page has been receiving?
