The Karate girl, Michelle Waterson, really made a name for herself when she convincingly defeated Paige VanZant early in their fight last year. This victory is what really made her popular with the fans, and all of Endeavor (which was WME – IMG back then) fell in love with the Karate diva. The demand for the fighter was good enough for the UFC to take notice and the UFC certainly did not hold back. They made their intentions clear and pursued her the way in which they usually only do for established stars of the sport.
Waterson certainly has proved her money’s worth in terms of the viewership she attracts since her move to the coveted UFC and come UFC 218, she will be put to the real test now as she faces Tecia Torres in the octagon for what is going to be a fight to remember. It has not always been smooth sailing for Waterson in the UFC though, in fact, her debut did not go anything like planned at all as she was humbled by ex – title contender Rose Namajunas. This way, Waterson went from being in the form of her career to hitting the lowest of lows in her career in one single fight.
Given her popularity, you would expect that the UFC hand her a fight wherein she can bounce back, but it seems like the UFC may have lost interest in Waterson as they throw her away to Tecia Torres. Torres is not exactly a fan favorite, but she has always been consistent with results and always been one of the top few fighters in the strawweight division since she fought in the Invicta FC.
We cannot see how Waterson can overcome this challenge, she likes to strike, and Torres will out clinch her.
