The ever-elusive Sage Northcutt has a fight scheduled in the books after nearly a year on the sidelines. Again.

Northcutt, who hasn’t fought since a submission loss to Mickey Gall in December 2016, is expected to take on Michel Quinones at UFC Fight Night 120 in November, as reported by ESPN.

The young prospect’s MMA career has been repeatedly sidetracked with illness and injury due to ailments ranging from staff infection to strep throat. Northcutt eventually underwent a tonsillectomy, as his tonsils were the source of his repeated bouts of strep throat.

He’s also lost two of his last three bouts by submission, putting an abrupt halt to his meteoric rise as one of the UFC’s most promoted ‘stars’ even though he had no bouts against true top competition on his record.

Quinones (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was riding a five-fight winning streak before losing his UFC debut by TKO to Jared Gordon in June.

The bout will be contested at 155 pounds, as Northcutt’s two UFC losses have occurred at welterweight. The Texas native has bounced between the two weight classes throughout his UFC tenure, but appears to be settling in for a run at lightweight.

This will be “Super” Sage Northcutt’s first fight in 2017 after a UFC 214 bout with John Makdessi fell through.

UFC Fight Night 120 will take place on November 11th in Norfolk, Virginia And will be headlined by a lightweight tilt between former divisional champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and exciting contender Dustin Poirier.

Also added to the card was a bantamweight bout between Raphael Assuncao and Matthew Lopez.

Two rising prospects will face off in the co-main event of tomorrow night’s (Dec. 17, 2016) UFC on FOX 22 card, as Mickey Gall battles Sage Northcutt. Gall, who’s most known for beating CM Punk last September, actually requested the bout, as he called out “Super Sage” at UFC 203.

Leading up to the bout, Gall has taken some shots at the smiling and polite Northcutt, and he recently said that “Super Sage” wouldn’t last in New Jersey, Gall’s home state:

“Not very long,” Gall told MMAFighting when asked at Thursday’s open workouts on how long Northcutt would last where Gall grew up. “He’d find himself in a locker. He’d probably kick his way out of a locker, I’ll give him that. … He seems very ingenuine. I say corny like a dork, but its an ingenuinty, he’s putting on.”

Despite his unique personality, however, Northcutt has seen success in the Octagon, as he currently boasts a 3-1 UFC record. Gall, on the other hand, is currently 2-0 under the UFC banner and he simply feels as if he is ‘better’ all around than the 20-year-old Texas native:

“I’m better on the feet, better on the ground, tougher than him, endurance, everything,” Gall said. “When we jump in the fire, he’s hopping out of the fire way before I am. … It could go quick. I’’m ready for three hard ones. I’m going to get the finish. I’d like to get a knockout in the first, but smart money is I’ll choke him out in the second.”

Who do you expect to come out on top in this bout?

24-year-old Mickey Gall picked up the third victory of his professional mixed martial arts career at last weekend’s (September 10, 2016) UFC 203 by destroying former professional wrestler CM Punk in the very first round of their main card bout. During his post-fight interview with color commentator Joe Rogan, Gall said that he was interested in fighting ‘killers’ from now on, specifically calling out fellow young gun “Super” Sage Northcutt for a clash at November 12’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

UFC President Dana White was quick to comment on the idea, saying that Northcutt’s team was also interested in the fight and that the UFC would make it happen, although that doesn’t seem to be the case as of now.

According to Jonathan Shrager, who recently spoke with Northcutt’s father, Mark, “Super Sage” was never approached regarding the potential scrap and he’s also currently dealing with a staph infection and will be unable to compete at UFC 205:

Northcutt is coming off of a decision victory over Enrique Martin at July 9’s UFC 200, a win that extended his UFC record to 3-1. Prior to that, he had suffered a disappointing loss to Bryan Barberena last January. “Super Sage” has competed both at lightweight and welterweight, but as his father said, he’d be willing to meet Gall at 170-pounds when the time is right.

The bout certainly makes sense given the stage each fighter is at, but obviously Northcutt will need to return to full health before the two could sign on the dotted line.
