Curtis Millender Wants ‘To Beat Up Mickey Gall’ In Second UFC Bout

Last night (Feb. 18, 2018) welterweight contender Curtis Millender made his UFC debut on the main card of UFC Fight Night 126, which took place at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, and it was a successful one to say the least, as Millender scored an impressive second-round stoppage victory over longtime veteran Thiago Alves.

Following the big win, Millender has an idea of who he’d like to fight next:

“I would like to beat up Mickey Gall,” Millender told MMAjunkie. “I’m a huge WWE fan, big CM Punk fan, so I’d love to beat up Mickey Gall for that.”

Punk, a former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar, made his mixed martial arts debut at UFC 203 in September 2016, but it didn’t go his way, as he was famously dominated and stopped by Gall just minutes into the first round.

Since then, Gall has gone 1-1, finishing Sage Northcutt in December 2016 and then dropping a decision loss to Randy Brown at UFC 217 last November in New York City.

In regards to Millender, it certainly appears as if he has a bright future ahead of him, and although he may have been a relative unknown prior to last night, he claims as if he saw all of this coming:

“I knew this was coming,” Millender said. “I worked really hard. I have a canteen of water that I drink every day, and every fight I write my goals on it. And it says that I’m going to knock him out in the second round. I’m going to tweet it when I get home and see that the marker is fading. I work hard, and when I say I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it.”

And while he has his sights set on Gall, Millender’s goals are sky high and he said that ‘anybody can get it next’:

“Easy breezy; I want to fight everybody,” Millender said. “I want to be the best in the world, and to do that, I’ve got to be up there. I’ve got my welterweight hit list. Thiago’s first; anybody can get it next.”

Where would you like to see the 30-year-old go from here?

CM Punk’s MMA debut happened to also be his UFC debut, and it wasn’t much of a surprise when he lost that fight to Mickey Gall back at September 2016’s UFC 203.

Even though Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, took an absolute beating, the former WWE superstar wants another shot in the Octagon.

UFC President Dana White told The Associated Press that he’s aware Punk wants another MMA fight, and appears more than willing to give him one:

“I like that guy, he’s a good dude. He wants one more. He wants to get another shot. I’m going to give it to him. He’s a completely different case than most normal human beings, so I’m going to give him another shot.”

Punk made a slow transition from professional wrestling to mixed martial arts, training under Duke Rufus’ academy for a year and a half before his first fight was even announced. It turns out that a crash course in fighting isn’t enough to win on the world’s biggest stage, regardless of the 18 months Punk put in.

White refrained from getting into specifics like a potential opponent or a timeline, but one thing is for sure – CM Punk wants to fight again, and with White’s blessing, we’re going to see Punk fight in the UFC again.

Punk (0-1) is one of two high-profile WWE wrestlers to make the plunge into MMA. The other had a much more measured degree of success, even if it was short-lived in a sense. Brock Lesnar won the heavyweight title from Randy Couture back in 2008. Punk competes in the welterweight division.

Would you like to see CM Punk try his hand at MMA again? Who would be an ideal opponent, if there is one?

We now know for a fact who injured John Makdessi before his bout at UFC 214 this past July in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena. It turns out to be top prospect Mickey Gall.

Gall decided to issue a statement BloodyElbow.com on Sunday to admit that he injured Makdessi ahead of his scheduled lightweight bout against Sage Northcutt. If you recall, earlier this week, Makdessi told FanSided that he sparred with Gall while the welterweight was visiting TriStar in Montreal.

This was when he suffered a shoulder injury when “f—king punk” Gall, who was apparently training too hard, landed a suplex. As a result of this injury, his UFC 214 bout cancellation and departure from the renowned camp.

Gall made sure to make it known that he did not hurt his training partner on purpose and regretted the mistake afterwards.

“It’s true. I did hurt him,” Gall wrote. “It was an accident, and I felt really bad about it. I was a fan of his. … I would never want to disrespect a training partner or the gym.”

“People go hard with me, so I go hard too; never ill spirited,” he wrote. “I remember going with John; it was the third round. The two previous rounds I had gone with strong guys like Alex Garcia and Peter Grajcar, and we were using muscle and going hard.”

Gall stated that he hit Makdessi with a fireman’s carry throw, but Makdessi did not break fall, but instead, he tried to stop the attempt which lead to the fight-canceling injury.

“I felt awful about it,” Gall wrote. “I should have done a better job protecting him. It was my fault. But sh-t happens it ain’t checkers. I never want to hurt someone in the gym. Especially TriStar, a gym I have a lot of respect for. And though I train there a lot and love the guys, it’s not my home gym — I’m a visitor, and that’s not a good look.”

Since his UFC debut against Michael Jackson in order to set up his bout against former WWE Champion and current UFC welterweight star CM Punk, Gall has been the fighter that the UFC is grooming to be the next superstar. UFC President Dana White scouted him on Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight last year. Gall dominated the former pro wrestler and tapped him out in the first round at UFC 203 in September 2016.

Gall last competed inside the world-famous Octagon when he fought fellow rising star Northcutt and ultimately defeated him by submission. Now, Gall is scheduled to fight Randy Brown at UFC 217 in November at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Mickey Gall Wants Kevin Lee To Slide Into His DMs

Earlier this year UFC interim lightweight title challenger Kevin Lee joined The MMA Hour and sounded off on 170-pound prospect Mickey Gall.

Lee revealed he wasn’t too big of a fan of Gall, who earned his claim to fame by defeating former WWE Superstar CM Punk in his Octagon debut. After that Gall earned a win over fellow Dana White’s Looking For A Fight alumni Sage Northcutt. Lee doesn’t believe that either opponent is UFC material and Gall has never fought any true competition, but continues to get the promotional push (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Mickey Gall has never fought a professional fight,” Lee said. “Sage was the first real fighter that he ever fought, and even Sage don’t deserve to be there, so he ain’t fought no pro fights. Why give him the airtime over guys that already got like eight, nine, 10 UFC fights, and they’re real fights against real fighters that don’t get as much airtime? You’ve just got these big fights and just because people hear his name, they think (he’s really good). It’s bullsh*t, you know?

“I’m not going to knock the hustle,” Lee continued, “but people are going to talk about what you put out. So if you make 10 articles about Mickey Gall, and you don’t make a single article about nobody else, then of course they’re going to be buzzing about him, of course they’re going to be talking about him. He ain’t doing it on his own.”

Gall got the opportunity to respond to Lee’s comments earlier this week on The MMA Hour, and said that he saw Lee slide into No. 2-ranked UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson’s DMs, and would like for “The Motown Phenom” to do the same for him so they can set up a no rule gym fight in order to settle their differences:

“He was talking sh*t on your show. That f*cking idiot,” Gall said.

“I’d like to challenge him to a straight fight in the gym. I saw him slide into (Tony) Ferguson’s DMs trying to do that. I’d like him to slide into mine, and I’d like to get a little no-limit fight with him. We’ll call it a spar. Maybe he could get daddy Mayweather to guest sponsor him, we could bet some money. I don’t know. He’s got something on, what, [October] 7th? I’ve got something the next month (November) on the 4th. We could figure that out somewhere.”

“He’s talking sh*t, man. He’s too comfortable using my name. I think he’s got talent, but I’d f*ck him up. We’re both in different places in our career, but we could fight in the gym anytime. Whatever he wants. No rules. F*ck it, let’s fight.”

Both men have fights set up that are just right around the corner; as Lee takes on Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight championship in the main event of the UFC 216 pay-per-view (PPV) next weekend (Sat. October 7, 2017), while Gall takes on Randy Brown at UFC 217 from Madison Square Garden on November 4th.
