When Ben Askren retired last month, he received plenty of tributes and words of encouragement for his post-UFC career. However, Mike Perry isn’t following suit.

Askren called time on his career following his second consecutive defeat in the company after getting submitted by Demian Maia. In total, it put him at 1-2 with the promotion after coming in with plenty of hype and anticipation.

In the end, it was an underwhelming UFC career for “Funky” and fellow welterweight Perry believes he was more hype than substance:

“Ben Askren’s a bum, and they’re only talking about his retirement!” Perry said on UFC Unfiltered (via MMA News). “And he never fought nobody! He got three UFC fights! He got the luckiest draw with Robbie Lawler ever in his life!”

Perry is referring to Askren’s controversial submission win over Lawler where the latter never tapped or passed out. Many, including Jorge Masvidal, regard that fight as a loss for Askren especially given how he was getting beat up for majority of the fight.

“Platinum” also took aim at Askren’s 18-0 record before entering the UFC, citing how he never had to compete in the smaller promotions for a long period of time.

“18-0 in other organizations and all that…I skipped all that!” Perry added. “I saw Mike Bisping’s picture the other day, his Cage Warriors title defense, I said, ‘what’d you get for that? $5,000?’ They wasn’t paying sh*t back in the day.

“I skipped all that. I went straight to the UFC money.”

What do you think of Perry’s comments?

Welterweight Mike Perry says things will be “on sight” if he sees Colby Covington during UFC 245 fight week.

UFC 245 takes place December 14 and will be headlined by a welterweight title showdown between current champion Kamaru Usman and Covington. Perry, meanwhile, is also competing on the card as he looks to return to the win column against Geoff Neal.

And things could certainly get rowdy if Perry sees Covington ahead of the pay-per-view event:

“I’m going to give Covington a problem all week long,” Perry said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via BJ Penn). “Let’s see if he is thinking about the right things when he gets in the ring [with Usman]. I hope he hears about this. If he catches sight of me, it’s on sight.

“…I won’t be looking for him, I’ll be looking to do my own thing. If I catch a glimpse, I might sneak over.”

Perry and Covington have gone back-and-forth on social media for a while now. When they usually do, “Chaos” notably always chooses to mock Perry’s wife. To that, “Platinum” believes it’s a case of simple clout-chasing from the former interim welterweight champion:

“I don’t know why people got problems with us,” he added. “Maybe he is just looking for clout because he can’t get none with that crotch-sniffing style.”

Things will certainly be interesting if the two are in the same room together leading up to UFC 245.

Mike Perry and Geoff Neal are set to scrap at UFC 245 in what should be a banger of a welterweight fight.

According to ESPN, Ariel Helwani, the deal is verbally agreed to for the scrap.

“Mike Perry vs. Geoff Neal is in the works for UFC 245 on Dec. 14, according to sources. Both sides have verbally agreed to the welterweight fight,” he tweeted.

Perry is coming off of a split-decision loss to Vicente Luque back in August in what was the Fight of the Night. Before that, he beat Alex Oliveira by decision and once again earned FOTN honors. He has had an up and down UFC career as he is 6-5 but is a fan favorite.

He also holds wins over Paul Felder, Danny Roberts, Hyun Guy Lim, Alex Reyes, and Jake Ellenberger. His losses meanwhile come to Donald Cerrone, Santiago Ponzinibbio, Max Griffin, and Alan Jouban.

Geoff Neal, meanwhile, is 4-0 inside the Octagon and 12-2 overall. He is coming off of a TKO win over Niko Price at UFC 240 where he earned a performance of the night bonus. He also holds a win over Belal Muhammed, a head-kick knockout over Frank Camacho and a submission over Chris Camozzi. Many thought the Fortis MMA product should get a top-15 opponent but he gets a big name in Perry.

UFC 245 card now looks like:

  • Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington – for welterweight title
  • Max Holloway vs. Alexander Volkanovski – for featherweight title
  • Amanda Nunes vs. Germaine de Randamie – for women’s bantamweight title
  • Jose Aldo vs. Marlon Moraes
  • Urijah Faber vs. Petr Yan
  • Matt Brown vs. Ben Saunders
  • Jessica Eye vs. Viviane Araujo
  • Kai Kara-France vs. Brandon Moreno
  • Oskar Piechota vs. Punahele Soriano
  • Geoff Neal vs. Mike Perry
