Mike Perry breaks his silence on losing to former training partner Donald Cerrone this past weekend. In the fight, which served as the co-main event of UFC Denver at Pepsi Center, Cerrone submitted Perry via armbar at 4:46 of the first round.

Before this fight, Perry scored the first decision win of his career when he beat Paul Felder at UFC 226. That win also snapped back-to-back decision losses to Max Griffin and Santiago Ponzinibbio. Now, however, he’s back to the drawing board and looking forward to what’s next in line for him.

At the time of the finish, Cerrone was on the bottom and transitioned to an armbar, going belly down. Perry had no choice but to tap as a result. Perry took to his official Instagram account after the fight to issue a statement on the loss:

“Drillers make killers. We fine tuned so many things in my fight game. We did not work or drill offensive ground control and strikes from top. If I drill and flow my jiu jitsu offensive top game the way I worked on my kickboxing flow I’ll be ripping limbs off and landing effective G&P my next match.”

Perry continued by stating that Cerrone broke his arm in order to “break all the records.’

“Off to get my black belt ????? congrats to @cowboycerrone for breaking an arm to break all the records last night. Stepping stone for me. I learned a lot and am more dangerous from it already.”

Donald Cerrone sounds off on breaking Mike Perry’s arm as well as getting another W put in the win column. Coming into this fight, there was some bad blood. But coming out of it, there were no hard feelings it appears.

In the fight, which served as the co-headliner of UFC Denver at Pepsi Center, Cerrone was able to submit his former training partner. Cerrone finished Perry via armbar submission at 4:46 of the first round.

At the time of the finish, Cerrone was on the bottom. He caught Perry’s arm from guard, transitioned to an armbar. This is when he went belly down and Perry had no choice but to tap.

The fan favorite said in a post-fight interview that he knew Perry was in trouble before the ending of the sequence.

“I felt it pop before I went belly down,” Cerrone said in a post-fight media scrum (H/T to MMAFighting). “So the rest was just tearing the chicken wing off, yeah. I was taking it home with me.”

Donald Cerrone Sounds Off On The Finish

Perry made it known after the fight through the power of Twitter that Cerrone broke his arm as a result of that finish. Cerrone believes that Perry made a tactical mistake in his armbar defense, which caused the finish.

“Once I seen the clock, there was 30 seconds left. The monitor was right above me,” Cerrone said. “I was like, oh I better spin for this armbar. I did. He should have rolled the other way out of it. I don’t know why he didn’t. I was like, ‘Gotcha.’ So I went belly down on it. I was just gonna take it until the referee pulled me off.”

Donald Cerrone sounds off on making it known that he plans to go back down to lightweight after fighting ten times in the welterweight division.

“Super surprised me,” Cerrone said. “When he reached in and took a body lock on me. I wasn’t reaching around and defending it. I was like, yeah, have it. There you go. I just crumbled. And when I was in side control.”

Cerrone Confused By Perry’s Actions

“Cowboy” is hoping to close out his career with a UFC title. He had now won two of three after a three-fight losing streak. He thinks that Perry never took over the fight despite the one scoring a takedown.

“I was waiting for him to [throw] big elbows. He was just breathing heavy. I was just like, I’ll just lay here and let him tire out and spin. Get guard. Yeah, I don’t know why he did that.”

UFC Fight Night 139 took place last night (Sat., November 10, 2018) from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The event was full of insane action, and it’s time to see who made major money in the UFC Denver bonuses.

The card was the UFC’s 25th-anniversary event. The UFC debuted at McNichols Arena in Denver on a fateful November day back in 1993. That put huge pressure on UFC Denver to deliver something special. It did not fail to live up to those lofty expectations. In fact, it exceeded them.

The event’s highlights were obviously lead by Yair Rodriguez’s amazing last-second knockout of Chan Sung Jung in the main event (watch it here) that is definitely an instant classic. For their efforts in what may be 2018’s “Fight of the Year,” Rodriguez and Jung justifiably took home $50,000 apiece for the card’s “Fight of the Night.”

‘El Pantera’ also earned another $50,000 for a well-deserved ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus. The other ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses went to hometown fan favorite Donald Cerrone, who set the UFC record for wins and finishes with a first-round armbar victory over Mike Perry.
