November 15 sees Mike Tyson return to the ring to face Jake Paul in what will undoubtedly be one of the most talked about fights of the year.

Given the stature that both men bring to the table, getting the opportunity to share the ring with either of them is a huge opportunity for other fighters.

One man that wants a piece of that action is MMA legend Vitor Belfort.

After retiring from competing in the UFC back in 2018, Belfort has made the move over to boxing where he has had several bouts since. But despite being 47 years old, he believes that big name opponents still aren’t willing to fight him.

The Brazilian legend has won both of his boxing contests since hanging up the MMA gloves, beating Evander Holyfield in an exhibition and fellow former UFC fighter Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

In a recent interview with Inside Fighting, he claimed that though he would be open to the idea of stepping in against Paul or Tyson, it’s not likely to happen.

It makes sense on his end but Belfort doesn’t believe that either man is willing to risk fighting him because of their own legacies.

“I would love to do it but both guys didn’t want to fight me for sure but I would love to fight the winner. I just wish they can have a great fight but they don’t have the courage to bring that fight [to me]. I think that would be a great fight to put together but I think none of them wanted to risk their – how they can call – career or their legacy.

“I’m in a stage of my life where for me to step up and fight someone, has to make sense for me, for the fans. I think the fans would love to see that but at the end of the day, Jake Paul fights who he wants to fight. He’s making the decision and I mean we’ll see what will be but I mean I can promise you, I think that fight is not going to happen.”

Jake Paul is set to face Mike Tyson in an anticipated boxing match on November 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This bout is a clash between the 27-year-old YouTuber-turned-professional boxer and the legendary 57-year-old former heavyweight champion.

Originally scheduled for July 20, the fight was postponed due to Tyson suffering from a medical issue. The event will be streamed globally on Netflix, making it their entry into the world of sports streaming. The match will consist of eight rounds of two minutes. Both fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves, which are heavier than standard boxing gloves. Four years later, the two generational stars will collide in one of the most-watched fights in the sport’s history. Emanating from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Paul vs. Tyson will headline a loaded card airing live and exclusively on Netflix at no additional charge for the streaming giant’s 260 million+ subscribers.

While Tyson’s journey in the world of boxing came to an end nearly 20 years ago following a sixth-round loss to Kevin McBride, Paul’s has barely begun. Four years later things will come full circle as the former unified heavyweight world champion aims to end the career he helped start.

“I don’t know [why he wants to fight me]. I’m close to 60 years old,” Tyson said on the It Is What It Is podcast. “He’s going to get a lot of money as well. He’s improved since the first time he fought on my card. I started Jake off, I let him fight on my undercard a few years ago. No one knew who the hell he was. “You’ve got to live it, mate. It’s not a sport that you can play around with. You’ve got to live it. It has to be your life. As I said, a lot of people get it mixed up and think it’s some kind of sport or it’s a glorified hobby. It’s literally a way of life and that’s the best way for me to explain it to you.

“It’s so, so difficult and it takes so much of your life over. Like I gave it too much if I’m being totally honest. It took over my life. It was an obsession. I was obsessed with becoming a world champion. Live it, these kids out there, go and learn. Go to as many gyms, go to as many coaches as you can, pick up as many chicks as you can because you’re going to need them, but ultimately, live the life.“

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder recently voiced his disgust for the TLDR’s decision to license Tyson, believing that it could put the 58-year-old icon in serious harm.

“I think it’s bad the commission has licensed Mike Tyson because he hasn’t been active in 20 years, so they should not just license him because of who he is, that’s how people get hurt, god forbid he gets hurt,” Wilder told talkSPORT. “People can get hit in the wrong place and at the wrong time, there’s lots of examples where guys have been hit into a coma. Paul vs. Tyson has already been postponed once after ‘Iron’ suffered a medical emergency during a cross-country flight in May. The incident was ultimately chalked to an ulcer flare-up, but it was enough to push the fight out of its originally scheduled July 20 date.
