November 15 sees Mike Tyson return to the ring to face Jake Paul in what will undoubtedly be one of the most talked about fights of the year.

Given the stature that both men bring to the table, getting the opportunity to share the ring with either of them is a huge opportunity for other fighters.

One man that wants a piece of that action is MMA legend Vitor Belfort.

After retiring from competing in the UFC back in 2018, Belfort has made the move over to boxing where he has had several bouts since. But despite being 47 years old, he believes that big name opponents still aren’t willing to fight him.

Vitor Belfort Says That He Wants Either Paul Or Tyson But It Probably Won’t Happen

The Brazilian legend has won both of his boxing contests since hanging up the MMA gloves, beating Evander Holyfield in an exhibition and fellow former UFC fighter Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

In a recent interview with Inside Fighting, he claimed that though he would be open to the idea of stepping in against Paul or Tyson, it’s not likely to happen.

It makes sense on his end but Belfort doesn’t believe that either man is willing to risk fighting him because of their own legacies.

“I would love to do it but both guys didn’t want to fight me for sure but I would love to fight the winner. I just wish they can have a great fight but they don’t have the courage to bring that fight [to me]. I think that would be a great fight to put together but I think none of them wanted to risk their – how they can call – career or their legacy.

“I’m in a stage of my life where for me to step up and fight someone, has to make sense for me, for the fans. I think the fans would love to see that but at the end of the day, Jake Paul fights who he wants to fight. He’s making the decision and I mean we’ll see what will be but I mean I can promise you, I think that fight is not going to happen.”

Mike Tyson Takes Credit for Starting Jake Paul's Career—And Now He's Going to Finish It

Mike Tyson gave Jake Paul his first big break in the boxing ring.

Four years later, the two generational stars will collide in one of the most-watched fights in the sport’s history. Emanating from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Paul vs. Tyson will headline a loaded card airing live and exclusively on Netflix at no additional charge for the streaming giant’s 260 million+ subscribers.

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul

While Tyson’s journey in the world of boxing came to an end nearly 20 years ago following a sixth-round loss to Kevin McBride, Paul’s has barely begun. Thus far, ‘The Problem Child’ is 10-1 with victories over a slew of past-their-prime MMA stars, including Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz.

But before all of those fights, Paul’s first noteworthy appearance inside the squared circle came against former NBA star Nate Robinson. Their clash was the co-main event of Tyson’s charity exhibition boxing bout against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020.

Four years later things will come full circle as the former unified heavyweight world champion aims to end the career he helped start.

“I don’t know [why he wants to fight me]. I’m close to 60 years old,” Tyson said on the It Is What It Is podcast. “He’s going to get a lot of money as well. He’s improved since the first time he fought on my card. I started Jake off, I let him fight on my undercard a few years ago. No one knew who the hell he was. I started him and it looks like most likely I’m going to finish him” (h/t Middle Easy).

Roy Jones Jr. questions whether or not jake paul can take Mike Tyson’s power

Whether or not the 58-year-old icon can get the job done remains to be seen, but oddsmakers certainly don’t seem confident. As it stands, Paul is a more than 3-to-1 favorite to come out on top against ‘Iron’ in The Lone Star State. Still, some believe Tyson’s legendary power will be on full display leading to a complete and total backfire on the part of Paul.

“The first time he hit me in the chest, it felt like a mule had kicked me in the chest and if he hits anybody with a shot like that, they are either going out or down, especially guys who are not used to being hit like that,” Roy Jones Jr. said during an appearance on the Sugar Shane Show.

“With these types of people like Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, these guys are bigger and can take it. but Jake Paul, I don’t think he’s going to be able to take that. It might hit him on the chin like that, we’ll see, but it’s going to be tough” (The Sportster).

Live on Netflix, YouTube star Jake Paul will face off against the 58-year-old Mike Tyson in a professional boxing match. It was previously scheduled, but the aged Tyson had to drop out due to injury. Jake Paul has made a name for himself fighting UFC veterans such as Mike Perry, Anderson Silva, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Nate Diaz, among others.

Mike Tyson has not been active in boxing for about 20 years. His most recent bout was an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. Prior to that, his most recent match was his 2005 loss to Kevin McBride.

Speaking to Tim Wheaton of LowKickMMA with Tony Bellew in an interview, Bellew explained how serious this fight is. He said:

Well, we don’t take it seriously.  How seriously should they take it? Not very serious at all, to be honest.  It does absolutely nothing for anyone, especially from a professional boxer’s perspective.

Is Jake Paul on Steroids?

Many pundits have accused ‘The Problem Child‘ Jake Paul of being on PEDs. To this, Tony Bellew explained:

“That’s a strong accusation to use until he’s been there. You’ve gotta wait to see if he fails a drug test. That’s unfair. That’s harsh to be fair. That’s not nice. There are worse people than him in the world doing what they’re doing but I don’t know, we’ll see.”

Boxing Lifestyle

Tony Bellew added that boxing is not something that an athlete partakes in as a game, it is a lifestyle. He explained:

“You’ve got to live it, mate. It’s not a sport that you can play around with. You’ve got to live it. It has to be your life. As I said, a lot of people get it mixed up and think it’s some kind of sport or it’s a glorified hobby. It’s literally a way of life and that’s the best way for me to explain it to you.

It’s so, so difficult and it takes so much of your life over. Like I gave it too much if I’m being totally honest. It took over my life. It was an obsession. I was obsessed with becoming a world champion. Live it, these kids out there, go and learn. Go to as many gyms, go to as many coaches as you can, pick up as many chicks as you can because you’re going to need them, but ultimately, live the life.

Deontay Wilder Reveals Bold Pick for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson: "Suffer the consequences."

Deontay Wilder thinks the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation made a big mistake by sanctioning Mike Tyson’s fight with Jake Paul as a professional bout.

On Friday, November 15, the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ will return to the ring for the first time in nearly two decades when he takes on ‘The Problem Child’ inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. From the moment their fight was announced, pundits have slammed the pairing, many of them taking exception to the ridiculous 31-year age gap between Tyson and the YouTube star.

Deontay Wilder Fears for Mike Tyson’s well-being in Jake Paul fight

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder recently voiced his disgust for the TLDR’s decision to license Tyson, believing that it could put the 58-year-old icon in serious harm.

“I think it’s bad the commission has licensed Mike Tyson because he hasn’t been active in 20 years, so they should not just license him because of who he is, that’s how people get hurt, god forbid he gets hurt,” Wilder told talkSPORT. “People can get hit in the wrong place and at the wrong time, there’s lots of examples where guys have been hit into a coma. It’s easy to do. He’s too old for this.

“At the end of the day, no one gives a f*ck about Mike. We can talk about the pros and cons, but at the end of the day, they don’t give a f*ck. I don’t think anyone cares about Mike because if they did they wouldn’t sanction the fight.

“They may say they’ve done tests and all that, ok, but as long as you’re willing to suffer the consequences if something bad goes wrong. His power may not have left completely but you still need to set it up, your stamina needs to be a certain way, or it’s going to look like a clown show.”

Paul vs. Tyson has already been postponed once after ‘Iron’ suffered a medical emergency during a cross-country flight in May. The incident was ultimately chalked to an ulcer flare-up, but it was enough to push the fight out of its originally scheduled July 20 date.
