Boxing legend Mike Tyson is keen to test himself against the current unified heavyweight king Anthony Joshua after his upcoming exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr.

For months now it has been known that Tyson is planning a comeback to the sport at 54 years of age. ‘Iron Mike’ has excited fans with the announcement as well as various training videos which show he still possesses his raw knockout power.

Jones Jr. is the man who has got the call to face off against Tyson on November 28. The 51-year-old is currently riding a four-fight winning streak. He last fought in 2018, beating Scott Sigmon over ten rounds to claim the WBU cruiserweight title.

The fight is available on pay-per-view, and on the Triller. The social media platform will reportedly put on an undercard which will feature YouTuber Jake Paul taking on former NBA star Nate Robinson. Triller will also produce a 10-part documentary series that follows Tyson and Jones as they prepare for the fight.

Tyson hasn’t had a professional fight since in over 15 years. The youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history has since battled substance abuse and weight issues. In recent years he has turned things around and become a popular figure in the entertainment world.

Speaking to TMZ Sports ahead of his upcoming fight Tyson revealed he is already thinking about a potential fight with Joshua in the name of charity.

“I would love to do that (box Joshua). That would be mind-blowing,” Tyson said.

“Listen, I’m very interested. If doing that means that we can have a bigger charity exponent, well be it, I’m down to do that too. If it’s all being done out of an exponent of charity and if they’re down to do that, I’m with it too. Listen, it’s entertainment. It’s just for charity. It’s for a good cause. But we’re giving our best.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson almost knocked out his trainer Rafael Cordeiro in the latest viral clip that showcases ‘Iron Mike’ still possesses his patented punch power – check it out below.

Tyson has excited fans by announcing his return to the squared circle at 54 years old. After much speculation it was revealed he would take on fellow boxing great Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition bout on September 12. The fight was then moved to November 28 to allow everyone involved to make more money from the eagerly anticipated match-up. However, Jones Jr. was unhappy with the date switch and even threatened to drop out of the match-up all together, he said.

“I’ve had to cancel other stuff to be out here, it’s upset my calendar, I’ve got to change things,” Jones Jr said to Daily Mail last month. “That’s why we have to table bulls**t now. That’s the biggest issue, I’m not a full-time boxer anymore so I do other things to make an income. If I can’t do other things then I should be compensated for that, because it changes the schematics. It’s not acceptable.”

Things seems to have gotten back on track as of late with both men continuing to talk up the fight in the media. Tyson told Joe Rogan fans can expect violence on November 28.

“Of course it is [gonna get violent],” Tyson said. “Because both of us are who we are, and we’re gonna show our skills and nobody’s gonna look stupid. It’s just going to be interesting, I think. … I’m just prepared to do a lot of running and chasing. That was real difficult to get into condition for, chasing this little f**king guy around the ring.”

Jones Jr. meanwhile has been speaking to Sky Sports about the dangers he faces when squaring off against Tyson.

“When it comes time to fight, we’re going to fight. If it comes down to bite, we’re going to bite. Whatever has to happen, is going to happen, that’s just what it is.

“He’s still Mike Tyson, he’s still one of the strongest, most explosive people who ever touched a boxing ring. If anything, I made a mistake going in with him. He’s the bigger guy, he’s the explosive guy.

“He’s going to have all the first-round fireworks, not me. I do have first-round fireworks, but he’s known for more first-round fireworks than anybody to ever touch boxing, other than maybe George Foreman.

“With him having the first-round fireworks, he’ll be against a guy smaller than him, maybe 40-50 pounds smaller than him. But who knows?”

Who do you think wins on November 28? Mike Tyson or Roy Jones Jr?

Mike Tyson just wanted to get in shape but then realized he had what it takes to get back into the ring.

Tyson is set to have an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. later this year but never thought he would fight again. Instead, he was only training to get back into shape after he felt like he was overweight.

“I was discussing with my wife about me being overweight,” Tyson said on JRE (h/t MMAMania). “And she said ‘Why don’t you just get on the treadmill for 15 minutes a day?’ But then it went from 15 minutes a day … to two hours a day.”

“I just started losing weight, and my brother in law said ‘Hey Mike, I know you’re not going to want it but someone asked if you would fight this guy for thirty or forty million bucks.’ I said ‘Get the fu — woah. Hold on. Who would they like me to fight?’”

Mike Tyson also revealed several names that were thrown out for his comeback fight including Bob Sapp, Wanderlei Silva, and Evander Holyfield. Yet, they ended up agreeing on Roy Jones Jr. and he was the one who wanted eight rounds.

“Beats the hell out of me,” he said. “I wanted to do the exhibition, I wanted to help the people, I said, ‘Why do I gotta do eight f**king rounds?’ But now I’m getting in condition, and we’re going to do this stuff.”

“Getting in shape and getting conditioned are two different animals. They don’t even belong in the same division of working out. Getting in shape is getting able to fit in your clothes. Being in condition is being able to come outside of your soul. You can’t do that automatically. The emotional state to prepare for that is mind boggling. Let me tell you something about [an early training video]. I did that video and I was in bed for a week. That was 30 seconds, and I was in bed for a week. That was not funny because it made me realize that this is big boy s**t.”

For Mike Tyson, he expects the fight to be violent and be entertaining for the fans.

Roy Jones Jr has threatened to walk away from his eagerly anticipated eight-round exhibition bout against boxing legend Mike Tyson. Jones Jr and Tyson were originally set to square off on September 12 but that date was changed to November 28 in order to maximize revenue from the fight.

‘RJ’ is unhappy with the date change and says he is willing to walk away from the fight if he is not compensated correctly.

“I’ve had to cancel other stuff to be out here, it’s upset my calendar, I’ve got to change things,” Jones Jr said to Daily Mail. “That’s why we have to table bulls**t now. That’s the biggest issue, I’m not a full-time boxer anymore so I do other things to make an income. If I can’t do other things then I should be compensated for that, because it changes the schematics. It’s not acceptable.”

Jones Jr. says his lawyers are currently trying to re-negotiate his deal.

“We’re trying to figure something out, my lawyers are talking with their lawyers, trying to figure out ways to make it a better situation so that I can compensated for it, that is more beneficial for me to do. If they don’t make it make sense, it (the fight) would be off,” Jones Jr explained. “Why would I change the date and mess up the rest of my year when I agreed to September 12.

“They said they wanted to get a crowd. If you want to get a crowd, that’s a different type of money. If you want a big event, that’s a different type of money,” Jones Jr. continued. “You think I’m going to say, okay, let’s look at my money, but I’m not getting no better percent. How dumb is that to me? So let’s see what happens.”
