Earlier this month, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell caused quite the debate within the combat sports community.

“The Iceman” suggested in a recent interview with Ed Mylett that he would beat boxing heavyweight legend Mike Tyson in a streetfight. Here’s what Liddell had to say.

“In a street fight, I’d win,” Liddell told Ed Mylett. “I mean, he’s got a puncher’s chance. He’s got a chance to catch me coming in. But other than that, it’s over.”

Now, Liddell has taken to social media to double down on these claims, responding to fans on Twitter for his comments. Liddell clarified his comments were geared towards when he and Tyson were both in the prime of their fighting careers, not their current selves now.

Look 1) I’m talking about when we were fighting 2) I’d take him down so he’d have one shot on my way in 3) I’m a big fan of mike and have no desire to fight him. But hypothetically speaking, when we were fighting, yes I would’ve beat him!”

I remember Tyson and I’m a huge fan of his but I’m not sure why biting Holyfield’s ear off makes him a better street fighter or better at stopping takedowns?”

He won’t get three minutes I’d shoot right away. He had no ground training or takedown defense training at all. So he’d have to catch me on the way in or he’d never get off the ground period!”

Of course, Tyson’s days of fighting are long behind him, so there’s no true possibility of ever finding out what would happen. However, Liddell comes off a knockout loss to Tito Ortiz in a widely criticized trilogy bout between the pair that was put on by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy MMA promotion. Despite the vicious knockout loss, Liddell has still not definitively shut the door on fighting.

What do you think about Liddell’s comments regarding a street fight with Tyson?

Many within the mixed martial arts (MMA) community, including UFC president Dana White, want former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell to stop fighting.

However, Liddell still very much has a fighter’s spirit in him, and some fighting words as well. Speaking in an interview with Ed Mylett, Liddell was asked who would win in a street fight between himself and Mike Tyson. Liddell, of course, picked himself to win, but noted Tyson only had a “puncher’s chance” in a street fight scenario. (H/T MMA Mania)

“In a street fight, I’d win,” Liddell told Ed Mylett. “I mean, he’s got a puncher’s chance. He’s got a chance to catch me coming in. But other than that, it’s over.”

Liddell fought as recently as November of last year when he headlined Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions inaugural MMA event. He took on Tito Ortiz, who knocked Liddell out in devastating fashion in the first round.

With the loss, Liddell is on a four-fight losing streak and hasn’t won a fight since December of 2007. Despite this, Liddell still hasn’t officially shut the door on potentially fighting again. Speaking to TMZ earlier this month, UFC president Dana White talked about why Liddell shouldn’t be fighting anymore.

“Chuck Liddell is 50-years-old and should not be fighting. And he’s a grown man and can do whatever he wants to do, but let me tell you what. The commission who sanctions that fight… wow.” White continued.

“I love him, I respect him. The crazy thing is, all the reasons we love Chuck Liddell are the same reasons he wants to fight. To his core he’s a fighter, it’s what he loves to do, (but) that third fight should have never happened.”

Do you agree with Liddell that he would beat Mike Tyson in a street fight?

If Chuck Liddell and Mike Tyson were to brawl on the streets, “The Iceman” feels he’d win that battle.

Liddell and Tyson have carved out legendary careers in their respective combat sports. Liddell is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and a UFC Hall of Famer. Tyson once ruled as boxing’s undisputed heavyweight champion and is in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Liddell Says He’d Beat Tyson In Street Fight

Liddell appeared on Fighting Is The Reward with Ed Mylett. When asked if he could beat Tyson in a street fight, “The Iceman’s” answer was clear (via MMAMania.com).

“In a street fight, I’d win,” Liddell told Ed Mylett. “I mean, he’s got a puncher’s chance. He’s got a chance to catch me coming in. But other than that, it’s over.”

Liddell was last seen in action back in Nov. 2018. He took on Tito Ortiz in their third match-up. Liddell was knocked out in the first round.

As for Tyson, he hasn’t been in a professional boxing match since June 2005 when he was defeated by Kevin McBride. Tyson did have an exhibition match with Corey Sanders in 2006. While no winner was announced, it was clear that Tyson got the better of Sanders all four rounds and even dropped him.

If you thought Francis Ngannou’s striking couldn’t get any scarier, think again. Because now Ngannou is getting pointers from one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time.

Recently, Mike Tyson took to Twitter to share a video of himself giving “The Predator” some tips during a recent meeting. You can check out the video here:

Tyson also praised Ngannou’s ridiculous knockout power by sharing a video of the Frenchman punching a bag that measured the force of his punch. Ngannou’s number clocked in at just over 800.

Ngannou is currently awaiting a fight from the UFC after emerging as the clear-cut No. 1-contender for the heavyweight title. However, given a trilogy bout between Daniel Cormier and new champion Stipe Miocic is next on the UFC’s radar, Ngannou will have to wait.

In the meantime, UFC president Dana White has recently said there are “big plans” for Ngannou in 2020, including headlining the UFC’s first-ever card from France.

“Yeah, exciting year for Francis, too, because, not only big fights for him, and potential title fight, but France,” White said. “We finally got France done. We’ve been working hard for a long time to get that place open for MMA, and we’ll do a fight there that, obviously, Francis will probably headline.

“And I don’t know if you watched the fight last weekend from Singapore, but the kid, [Ciryl] Gane, big badass heavyweight from France. No [they won’t fight each other], but they’ll both fight on that card.”

Justin Gaethje is already one of the more dangerous strikers in mixed martial arts (MMA) at lightweight, but now “The Highlight” is getting pointers from one of the deadliest punchers combat sports has ever seen.

Recently, former boxing heavyweight champ “Iron” Mike Tyson took to Twitter and posted a video of himself giving advice to both Gaethje and MMA fighter Ottman Azaitar. You can check out the video below from Gaethje’s Twitter page, who captioned the footage with, “It was a great life experience getting to hang around @MikeTyson.”

Tyson is an avid MMA fan who has been seen at several high-profile UFC events, and is an outspoken supporter of fighters such as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. As for Gaethje, currently on an impressive three-fight first-round knockout streak, he is trying to lobby for a fight with McGregor to welcome the Irishman back to the Octagon.

He recently sounded off on McGregor for continuously teasing a return on Twitter, but not signing on the dotted line to make his comeback official.

“He keeps tweeting he’s going to fight. On planet Earth there are two people who could possibly fight him. Me or Dustin Poirier,” Gaethje said. “He’s only fought two times in the lightweight division in his whole career. He’s fought two times, he lost one and won one. He’s ranked No. 3 for some odd reason. He needs to either go away or fight. I think it’s either me or Dustin.”
