Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was beginning to draw comparisons to boxing legend Mike Tyson, now he has some advice for her after the crushing UFC 193 loss…

We haven’t seen or heard much from former UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey since UFC 193, which is a complete contrast to the year leading up to her most recent fight. During her reign at the top of the 135-pound females, Rousey built up so much momentum it was totally unheard of. Getting big movie roles, spots in ads, unreal hype videos made by the UFC and being called the most dominant athlete on the planet, ‘Rowdy’ was being built up as invincible.

As we all know, there’s no such thing in the realm of combat sports, and Holly Holm was the dose of reality that hit hard at UFC 193 last November. The head kick heard around the world planted Rousey firmly on the canvas, along with the millions of dollars of promotion money spent by the UFC, and the hopes of the now former champ’s huge following worldwide.

Rousey

Back to the subject of Mike Tyson, and now the comparisons are for a very different reason. Of course her reign of dominance was still somewhat similar to Tyson’s in boxing, but now her rapid descent is also reflective of ‘Iron Mike’s’ fall from the top. Tyson himself had been part of the build up to Rousey’s UFC 193 bout with ‘The Preacher’s Daughter,’ noting there was ‘something special’ about ‘Rowdy’ during a trip to her gym.

The similarities between there two careers is not lost on Tyson, who appeared on Conan on TBS last night to give some great advice to the now seemingly reclusive former bantamweight queen, check it out:

Sage words from the former boxing great, who has undoubtedly seen the glittering highs and utterly awful lows of being a fighter in the media eye.

Do you think Rousey will ever come back to fighting, further to that, does she ever need to? With her roles in Hollywood movies growing by the year, surely it’s only pride that would ever make ‘Rowdy’ want to fight again. That said, it’s a powerful thing.Stay tuned.

It didn’t come as a surprise to those following the game, but EA Sports issued a press release today announcing that the “mystery fighter” pre-order bonus for EA Sports UFC 2 is going to be Mike Tyson. Tyson is well-known to be a big UFC fan who freely acknowledges that he would have been terrible in MMA because he has no grappling skills. His inclusion is a nice hook on top of MMA legends Kazushi Sakuraba and Bas Rutten also being part of the pre-order bonus pack, and with a lot of improvements to the game itself, one would think it outsells the first game.

The game is out on March 15h and available for pre-order now. Here’s the press release that EA issued:

MIKE TYSON MAKES HIS OCTAGON® DEBUT IN EA SPORTS UFC 2

Fans Can Pre-Order the Deluxe Edition to Get Day-One Access Starting March 15

Two Versions of the Iconic Fighter Will Be Unlockable In Game: ‘Iron Mike Tyson’ and ‘Legacy Mike Tyson’

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – January 20, 2016 – One of the most iconic athletes of all time is coming to EA SPORTS™ UFC® 2. Electronic Arts Inc. For a first look at the former champ in EA SPORTS UFC 2, watch the Mike Tyson reveal video.

“When you think about the most devastating fighters of all time, Mike Tyson is either around, or at the top of everyone’s list. It’s fun to think that if MMA was as popular back when he was competing as it is today, you might have seen Tyson put on four ounce gloves and step into the Octagon®,” said Creative Director Brian Hayes. “This is one of those great ‘what ifs’ that we get to create when making a game like EA SPORTS UFC 2.”

Those who opt for the Deluxe Edition will receive both “Iron” Mike as well as “Legacy” Mike Tyson. Both versions are available to unlock by progressing in the game.

Mike Tyson on Ronda Rousey: S–t, She Might Kick My Ass

There has been a lot of talk lately about whether Ronda Rousey could mix it with male fighters but one man who is certainly not putting himself forward for the test is Mike Tyson.

The former heavyweight boxing champion was clearly impressed with how Rousey defended her UFC women’s bantamweight title with a 14-second demolition job of Cat Zingano earlier this month at UFC 184.

Tyson was asked during an interview with HuffPost Live what he thought about recent comments made by Manny Pacquiao, where the Filipino suggested that Rousey was “strong enough to beat Floyd Mayweather in MMA.”

While Pacquiao’s comments were perhaps somewhat tongue in cheek, given he is in the mind-games heavy build-up to his fight with Mayweather, Tyson suggested fighting Rousey would be no joke.

He said in his own inimitable style:

S–t, Ronda Rousey might kick my ass. That 14 seconds the last fight — s–t, man, you got to take that seriously. She’s marketed herself, and not necessarily from a publicist’s perspective. She put in the work, too. She’s putting these people to bed, she’s tapping them out, she’s doing the 14-second thing.

Rousey vs. Tyson might be the only thing that could ever rival Mayweather vs. Pacquiao for pay-per-view buys, but it looks like it would be a fight Tyson would want no part of.

Mike Tyson and Jon Jones Slap Box at WWE Summerslam, Tyson Wins

A fantasy superfight momentarily came to life when Mike Tyson and Jon Jones briefly engaged in a slap boxing match on Sunday in Los Angeles.

After watching former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar win the WWE heavyweight title at WWE Summerslam, Tyson and UFC light heavyweight champ Jones playfully slap boxed one another in front of the Staples Center.

Jones shared the timeless encounter on Instagram early this morning.

With both men laughing, Jones began by throwing a lead jab-lead hook combination. Tyson countered and threw a pair of jabs, the second of which landed low to Jones’ midsection.

The former WBC, WBA and IBF boxing champ then countered Jones’ rear-uppercut with a low jab-overhand right combination that seemingly caught “Bones” off guard.

The UFC’s top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter laughed hysterically and responded to the 48-year-old’s combination by saying: “He’ll kill me. He set that one up.”

Jones’ mini-sparring session with Tyson didn’t mark the first interaction of its kind for the 27-year-old virtuoso.

Jones and Jackson’s MMA teammate and former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir took part in a slightly higher-paced sparring/grappling encounter outside the gym at the Legacy Fight Show 2 event in Moscow, Russia.

Jones suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and a sprained left ankle when he attempted to stuff a shot from teammate and UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem on Monday.

The injury forced Bones to pull out of his previously scheduled light heavyweight title fight with Daniel Cormier at UFC 178 in September. The bout has been rescheduled to UFC 182 in January.

Jones had his meniscus surgically repaired on Thursday. The injury typically requires a recovery time of four to six weeks, but Jones could be sidelined longer because of his ankle sprain.
