One of the most decorated MMA fighters of all time, former Pride FC two weight champion and UFC veteran Dan Henderson notched another massive win at UFC 199. Facing the much younger Hector Lombard on the June 4 pay-per-view in California, the 45-year old mixed martial arts legend scored a come-from-behind knockout that could’ve essentially wrapped up his amazing career. As it turned out though, ‘Hendo’s’ nemesis Michael Bisping fought at UFC 199 too, and ended up walking home with the belt that night.

‘The Count’ took on Luke Rockhold on just two weeks notice and starched his man in the first round. A flurry of clean shots landed to the jaw of ‘Rocky,’ sending the former champ to the ground with his eyeballs rolling as his English foe celebrated the win. The start of Bisping’s reign as UFC champion after 10 years in the UFC could ironically extend Henderson’s fighting career by one more fight.

As we heard earlier today, Michael Bisping trashed Dan Henderson and said he wants a rematch with the ‘old man.’ The two first met at UFC 100 where Henderson destroyed ‘The Count’s’ jaw before putting a stamping end to their rivalry with a now iconic flying forearm to the jaw. The stars never really aligned for a rematch between the two until now seven years later, where Bisping is the champion and ‘Hendo’ is counting down the days to the golf course time he deserves.

So what does Dan Henderson think of a rematch with Michael Bisping? It’s hard to think that the ageing legend could have much more than one fight left in him at this stage, but of course the feud with Bisping before UFC 100 and the subsequent highlight reel finish gives weight to the possibility of this fight happening.

Training partner of Rafael dos Anjos and current UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum is not impressed by Conor McGregor’s recent antics…

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was in typical form at the UFC 197 press conference. Hijacking the even from start to finish, ‘The Notorious’ put his upcoming opponent Rafael dos Anjos on blast as a traitor, and vowed to behead the lightweight champion and drag his body through the streets of Brazil. ‘RDA’ didn’t really react to the taunts, but then he didn’t have much of an opportunity to either.

As was the case with Jose Aldo before him, Rafael dos Anjos doesn’t really tend to engage in the theatrics much. Of course this just means McGregor has more of a chance to get as much trash talking done as possible, but it also scores the brash Irishman his fair share of enemies.

UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum is not happy with the way McGregor spoke about his Kings MMA team mate at the UFC 197 presser, and has a strong opinion on the scene that went down between the two this week. Check out the quotes from MMAFighting.com:

“When have a fight with my friend, you have a fight with me, too,” Werdum said. “We’re a family. If you say something bad, you pay for this for sure.”

“When [reporters] had a question for Rafael and he talked over him, this is no good,” Werudm said. “If it was my opponent, I would do this [Werdum makes a gesture like throwing water in his face, then makes a slapping sound], I’d say ‘be quiet.’ But that’s not Rafael’s personality. He’s a smart guy, okay, he controls himself, he just thinks about the fight.”

“It’s very important to respect,” Werdum said. “You have your space, I have my space. We have a fight, why do you touch me before. I thought Conor McGregor wasn’t showing respect. It’s not good. If he does it to me, he has a big problem. It think it’s very important he respects my space and I respect his space.”

It seems there’s quite a division between the Brazilian style of promotion and pretty much the rest of the western scene. The pride and respect of traditional martial arts seems to be how dos Anjos’ image is translated, and obviously in contrast you have the WWE style antics of a Chael Sonnen or Conor McGregor type character on the other side of the coin.

The question is, which is more beneficial for the sport?

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was beginning to draw comparisons to boxing legend Mike Tyson, now he has some advice for her after the crushing UFC 193 loss…

We haven’t seen or heard much from former UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey since UFC 193, which is a complete contrast to the year leading up to her most recent fight. During her reign at the top of the 135-pound females, Rousey built up so much momentum it was totally unheard of. Getting big movie roles, spots in ads, unreal hype videos made by the UFC and being called the most dominant athlete on the planet, ‘Rowdy’ was being built up as invincible.

As we all know, there’s no such thing in the realm of combat sports, and Holly Holm was the dose of reality that hit hard at UFC 193 last November. The head kick heard around the world planted Rousey firmly on the canvas, along with the millions of dollars of promotion money spent by the UFC, and the hopes of the now former champ’s huge following worldwide.

Rousey

Back to the subject of Mike Tyson, and now the comparisons are for a very different reason. Of course her reign of dominance was still somewhat similar to Tyson’s in boxing, but now her rapid descent is also reflective of ‘Iron Mike’s’ fall from the top. Tyson himself had been part of the build up to Rousey’s UFC 193 bout with ‘The Preacher’s Daughter,’ noting there was ‘something special’ about ‘Rowdy’ during a trip to her gym.

The similarities between there two careers is not lost on Tyson, who appeared on Conan on TBS last night to give some great advice to the now seemingly reclusive former bantamweight queen, check it out:

Sage words from the former boxing great, who has undoubtedly seen the glittering highs and utterly awful lows of being a fighter in the media eye.

Do you think Rousey will ever come back to fighting, further to that, does she ever need to? With her roles in Hollywood movies growing by the year, surely it’s only pride that would ever make ‘Rowdy’ want to fight again. That said, it’s a powerful thing.Stay tuned.
