MMA Legend Mirko Cro Cop is currently on the sidelines after suffering an injury.

It was revealed earlier this week that Cro Cop had to pull out of his scheduled bout against hard-hitting Roy Nelson in an alternate bout for the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix at the upcoming Bellator 200 event.

Cro Cop revealed to MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani that he suffered n ACL tear, a partial MCL tear, a meniscofemoral ligament (MFL) tear, an LCL sprain, and a median arcuate ligament (MAL) tear in his left leg. As a result. He underwent surgery Monday (May 22, 2018) to address the damage.

However, even though that is an extensive list of injuries, he is targeting a return in October and wants to fight Nelson “ASAP.”

It should be noted that as of this writing, there’s still no word yet on if Nelson will remain on this card and fight at this event but Bellator officials are currently looking for a replacement to fight the former UFC heavyweight star.

Some people may not remember but Cro Cop has dealt with similar injury in the past if you go back to 2009. He was about to start his second stint with the UFC and came back in about five months against Mostapha al-Turk at UFC 99, which he won via first-round knockout.

Cro Cop’s Bellator debut is now on hold as he is in the midst of an eight-fight win streak. During that run, he holds wins over “King Mo” Lawal, Gabriel Gonzaga and Satoshi Ishii.

Bellator 200 is set to take place on Friday, May 25, 2018, from The SSE Arena, Wembley. The preliminary card will air online at 7:00 pm EST while the main card will air on Paramount Network at 9:00 PM EST.

The new main event of this show will see middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho (15-1) defending his crown against Gegard Mousasi (43-6-2) while the co-main event will see London’s own Michael “Venom” Page (12-0) takes on David “The Caveman” Rickels (19-4, 2 NC).

The card will also feature former titleholder Phil Davis (18-4) takes on Linton Vassell (18-6) in a light heavyweight matchup.

MMA legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic was forced out of his Bellator 200 rematch against Roy “Big Country” Nelson with an undisclosed injury just days before the fight.

”Cro Cop” posted a photo on Instagram of him after surgery for the knee injury while laying in a hospital bed, and it certainly looks like a legitimate reason to not fight this weekend:

The PRIDE FC and UFC heavyweight was set to make his Bellator debut against “Big Country,” who had defeated him by TKO back in 2011. The kickboxer generally has good luck in rematches, having brutally avenged his shocking knockout loss to Gabriel Gonzaga by returning the favor.

The rematch with Nelson could have easily been an alternate bout for the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix, but alas it was not meant to be.

Instead, Gegard Mousasi’s fight against middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho will headline the card.

Mirko Cro Cop Pulled From Bellator 200 Main Event

Bellator is currently looking for a replacement to fight Roy Nelson.

MMA Legend Mirko Cro Cop has pulled out of the Bellator 200 main event.

Cro Cop was scheduled to fight Roy Nelson in an alternate bout for the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix at the upcoming event.

However, Gareth Davies of the Telegraph Sport is reporting that Cro Cop has pulled out of the fight with an undisclosed injury. It’s believed to be a leg injury.

This was supposed to mark the second time that they would fight each other as they fought back in the UFC in 2011 where Nelson won by TKO.

Cro Cop’s Bellator debut is now on hold as he is in the midst of an eight-fight win streak. During that run, he holds wins over “King Mo” Lawal, Gabriel Gonzaga and Satoshi Ishii.

Ryan Grab, Senior Director of Communications & Athlete Strategy at Bellator MMA, confirmed the news on Monday:

“Mirko Cro Cop has suffered an undisclosed injury and has been forced off the card, and we are looking at replacements, though for the time being Carvalho-Mousasi has been moved to the main event and British standout Michael ‘Venom’ Page against American David Rickels has been elevated up to the co-main event fight.”

Nelson made his Bellator debut at Bellator 183 in September with a hard-fought victory over Javy Ayala. He then suffered a decision loss to Matt Mitrione in his quarter-final bout.

Thus, if they do find a replacement for Cro Cop, this could give Nelson another shot at getting back into the tournament and possible shot at the vacant heavyweight title.

Bellator 200 is set to take place on Friday, May 25, 2018, from The SSE Arena, Wembley. The preliminary card will air online at 7:00 pm EST while the main card will air on Paramount Network at 9:00 PM EST.

The two fighters join a stacked card that already includes middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho (15-1) defending his crown against Gegard Mousasi (43-6-2).

London’s own Michael “Venom” Page (12-0) takes on David “The Caveman” Rickels (19-4, 2 NC).  Also, former titleholder Phil Davis (18-4) takes on Linton Vassell (18-6) in a light heavyweight matchup.

Mirko Cro Cop Says Fedor Emelianenko Rematch Isn’t Likely

According to Mirko Cro Cop, a rematch between him and Fedor Emelianenko likely won’t take place soon…

The post Mirko Cro Cop Says Fedor Emelianenko Rematch Isn’t Likely appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Legendary heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic are now both competing under the Bellator banner, but according to “Cro Cop”, don’t expect a rematch between the two to take place:

“People are asking me all the time about that, but I don’t think about that right now. And I don’t think that fight will happen,” Filipovic said Thursday on a Bellator 200 conference call (transcribed by MMAFighting.com).

“It’s hard to say. There is no — I don’t have some special desire to fight him anymore, like I had before. Never say never, but I don’t think that fight will ever happen.”

The two first met in 2005 at a PRIDE event at the Saitama Super Arena in what, at the time, was the biggest heavyweight fight in MMA history. And in the end, Emelianenko ended up winning the bout via unanimous decision.

Now years later, both men have followed different paths, but both remain highly recognizable names in the sport.

“Cro Cop”, for example, has spent the majority of the last few years competing under the Rizin banner in Japan. Currently, he’s riding an eight-fight winning streak and will next rematch Roy Nelson in the main event of Bellator 200, which is set to take place on May 25 in London England.

Emelianenko, meanwhile, recently scored an impressive 48-second knockout over former UFC champion Frank Mir in the first round of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix tournament.

As far as that fight goes, Filipovic seemed as if he was impressed by “The Last Emperor”, although he also said that the bout was far too short to take much away from it:

“Well, it was a good fight. If he’s back or not, I don’t know,” Filipovic said. “It was too short. The fight was too short, but good for him.”

Given where each fighter is in his respective career, it doesn’t sound too outlandish to think that a rematch could take place in Bellator, although it’s also unclear how much longer “Cro Cop” will stick around the fight game:

“It’s hard to say,” Filipovic said. “In this business, it’s hard to say. I said a few times already, ‘I’m done, I’m done,’ and at the end day, I always decided to extend my career.

“I will just do it as long as it makes me happy, and as long as my health allows me to keep fighting. So it can be one or two fights, it can be three, I don’t know.

“There are a lot of injuries in this sport, so you never know, especially at my age. I am 43, but I feel so good right now.”

Would you like to see Filipovic and Emelianenko run it back at some point in the near future?
