A decorated former UFC champion is reportedly returning to the octagon this fall.

After serving an 18-month United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) suspension for using the prohibited substance 7-Keto due to it including DHEA, former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida will return to action against No. 7 Derek Brunson at October 28’s UFC Fight Night 119 from Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil, according to a report from Combate (via MMA Mania).Machida was last seen

Machida was last seen losing his previous bout to recent interim title contender Yoel Romero via vicious second-round stoppage at June 2015’s UFC Fight Night 70. The loss marked his second in a row after he was brutally submitted by Luke Rockhold in April 2015. Machida was then set to take on MMA legend Dan Henderson in a rematch of their UFC 157 snoozer at UFC on FOX 16 in April 2016, but his admittance to using 7-Keto forced the bout to be canceled.

Despite the recent downswing against the absolute top of the talented UFC middleweight division, Machida maintains a 22-9 record in MMA with nine of those wins coming by knockout.

He’ll meet another contender looking to fight his way up the ranks in Brunson, a pressuring knockout artist who recently got back on track with a massive knockout of the previously surging Daniel Kelly at this June’s UFC Fight Night 110. Prior to that, Brunson dropped a highly controversial decision to all-time legend Anderson Silva at February’s UFC 208 after getting knocked out by current interim champ Robert Whittaker last November.

UFC Fight Night 119 also features a pivotal light heavyweight bout between Glover Teixeira and Misha Cirkunov, both fighters in need of a big win after recent losses.

A light heavyweight bout has been added to UFC Fight Night 119 on Oct. 28, 2017 in Sao Paolo, Brazil, as former title challenger Glover Teixeira will take on Misha Cirkunov. The UFC announced this fight during the broadcast of last night’s (Aug. 5, 2017) UFC Fight Night 114 in Mexico City, Mexico.

The 37-year-old Teixeira was once considered to be one of the very best 205 pounders on the planet, and he still may be, but he’s currently lost two of his last three bouts. Those losses have both come via knockout to highly touted contenders Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson, while the win in that stretch came against Jared Cannonier.

Cirkunov, on the other hand, was riding an impressive eight fight win streak before running into the red hot Volkan Oezdemir this past May in Sweden. Despite being knocked out by Oezdemir in just 28 seconds, Cirkunov holds four UFC victories over the likes of Daniel Jolly, Alex Nicholson, Ion Cutelaba and Nikita Krylov.

UFC Fight Night 119 does not currently have a main event set.

UFC Fight Night 109 emanated from the Ericcson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden, today (Sunday, May 28, 2017). The main event pit two top-five 205-pounders against each other as Alexander Gustafsson returned from a year-long layoff to battle Glover Teixeira. The light heavyweights duked it out for a potential crack at the winner of July’s Cormier-Jones rematch.

Gustafsson largely pitched a shutout. He exhibited a worrying habit of turning his back and running when Teixeira was able to close him down on the fence, occasionally eating a series of hooks as he exited out. But the real story of the fight ended up being Gustafsson’s hellacious uppercut, which he landed early and often. Teixeira showed inhuman toughness, getting dropped in the second by a blistering combination. But Gustafsson kept wracking up damage. In the fifth, Gustafsson uncorked three straight uppercuts that had Teixeira out on his feet. A final right hand sent the Brazilian crashing to the canvas, forcing referee Marc Goddard to intervene on his behalf.

In the aftermath, Gustafsson proposed to his girlfriend and new mother of his child in the Octagon, and she said “yes”.

The co-headliner was another pivotal battle at 205 pounds, as ranked up-and-comers Misha Cirkunov and Volkan Oezdemir tried to take the next step to title contention. Many believed Oezdemir didn’t deserve his #5 ranking after sneaking by Ovince St. Preux in his only UFC bout, but he quieted the doubters in less than a minute. Cirkunov charged forward between a stream of lefts and rights, backing Oezdemir to the fence. But when the fighters engaged in close quarters, a short right hand behind the ear felled the Canadian prospect. Cirkunov collapsed at Oezdemir’s feet, who closed the show with a few follow-up punches.
