Knockout of the Day: Joseph Duffy Wrecks Julien Boussuge With a Knee to the Dome at Cage Warriors 74

(Props: CageWarriorsTV via MiddleEasy)

On Saturday night at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 74 in London, Irish lightweight Joseph Duffy — the man responsible for giving Conor McGregor and Norman Parke their last defeats — scored a beautiful knockout of Julien Boussuge, just 36 seconds into the fight. Boussuge made the critical error of diving at Duffy’s legs, and Duffy timed him perfectly with a knee strike, straight into the face. Boussage went down like a dead man, Manhoef-style.

Cage Warriors also released footage of the Nathaniel Wood vs. Steve McCombe finish from Saturday’s event, in which McCombe verbally submitted after having his forearm snapped with a kick. That’s after the jump, if you’re morbidly curious.

Falling Tree Spinning Backfist Knockout of the Day: Jessica Middleton Smashes Holly Torrez at Blackout FC 26

(Props: Blackout FC via MMALatestNews)

An amateur women’s slugfest Saturday night at Blackout FC 6 in Kansas City, MO, ended in a memorable knockout, as hard-hitting bantamweight prospect Jessica Middleton finished Holly Torrez with a nasty spinning backfist.

Torrez (wearing the sports bra) was the aggressor early on, keeping Middleton (in the purple rash guard) on the defensive and bloodying her nose with wild striking attacks. But at the video’s 2:31 mark, Middleton cracks Torrez with a spinning backfist, and two things happen: 1) Torrez suddenly gets very timid — or maybe she just realizes that she’s gassed — and 2) Middleton decides she’s going to keep throwing that damn spinning backfist until she knocks Torrez out with it. Amazingly, her plan works.

Early in the second three-minute round, Middleton gets some space and makes another attempt at the backfist, and lands it harder than ever; Torrez stiffens up and falls straight to the mat in classic falling tree style. Afterwards, Blackout FC announcer Gerald Harris presents Torrez with the event’s Knockout of the Night award, which is a gift certificate for a custom mouthpiece. It ain’t exactly fifty large, but we all have to start somewhere.

Rose Namajunas vs. Alex Chambers Video Highlights From TUF 20 Episode 7

(Props: The Ultimate Fighter)

Team Melendez was in a tough spot heading into last night’s episode of TUF 20, after going winless in the first six preliminary fights. Luckily, they still had their ace in the hole — “Thug” Rose Namajunas, who stepped up in a big way and earned a first-round rear-naked choke submission against Alex Chambers.

Check out highlights from the fight above, which show an ever-evolving Namajunas frustrating Chambers with flashy kicks before taking her down and sinking the choke. Other than the heavy right hand that Rose eats at the 0:56 mark, it was a virtually flawless performance, and one that surely put her housemates on notice. Also on the episode…

– Team Melendez struggles with some infighting related to Heather Jo Clark and Lisa Ellis’s fraternizing with Team Pettis.

– Clark learns that she’s suffered a full ACL tear in her right knee, and will be out of action for the rest of the competition.

– Megan Rapinoe and Sydney Leroux from the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team stop by to say what up.

– Rose Namajunas discusses how she endured sexual abuse growing up in Milwaukee, and advises other females to seek help if they’re experiencing similar abuse in their own lives. Much respect to Rose for making this issue public.

After the jump: Rose and Pat Barry sit down with Karyn Bryant to discuss the episode on FOX Sports Live’s “TUF Talk.” Rose and Pat are still the best.

Submission of the Day: Tyler Stokes Taps Jesse Thacher With Kneebar From Back Mount

(Props: Phoenix Fighting Challenge via MMALatestNews)

On Saturday night at Phoenix FC 1 in Overland Park, Kansas, an impressively bearded flyweight by the name of Tyler Stokes stopped Jesse Thacher in unique fashion with a kneebar from back mount.

Stokes slips to the mat while throwing a kick just seconds into the fight, but pops up and surprises Thacher with a haymaker to the jaw, then takes his back. About 20 seconds later, Stokes grabs Thacher’s left leg and pulls it straight up over Thacher’s head. Thacher taps immediately, and Stokes celebrates with a tumbling routine.

Not a traditional kneebar, Thacher’s submission is fairly close to the “Suloev Stretch” that Kenny Robertson pulled off in the UFC last year. Do we have a new dark horse candidate for 2014’s Submission of the Year Potato Award?

Falling Tree Knockout of the Day: Damacio Page Annihilates Brian Hall at Legacy FC 36

(Props: AXS TV Fights)

Friday night at Legacy FC 36, bantamweight veteran Damacio Page knocked out Brian Hall about as ferociously as one person can knock out another person. Less than two minutes into the bout, Page landed a sledgehammer overhand right that put Hall into falling tree mode. It was one of those super creepy knockouts where Hall was totally unconscious, but his eyes remained open (aka, “The Living Death”). Page is now 4-0 under the Legacy banner, with all four wins by stoppage.

Expect to see this knockout on some end-of-year lists, although this is still the 2014 KOTY frontrunner in my book.
