Khamzat Chimaev warns Kamaru Usman you're boogeyman but I'm the wolf

UFC phenom, Khamzat Chimaev continues to stoke the flames to a potential matchup with Kamaru Usman later this year.

For someone who built up his fearsome reputation for seemingly fighting anyone at a drop of a hat, it has been some time since Chimaev has competed – ten months to be exact. While Chimaev did have a lengthy time off between his fights with Gerald Meerschaert and Li Jingliang, this was due to a serious Covid-19 illness, one which almost saw him retire. So, it is odd that with seemingly no documented injury, visa or personal issues, that Chimaev has not fought since his one round demolition of Kevin Holland.

However, it has not stopped the Chechen born fighter to call out, and goad his contemporaries, calling out and being linked with several other fighters form 1790 to 185lbs. Recently though, there has been rumours flying regarded a fight with former welterweight champion, Usman, and the pair have since exchanged words via social media and interviews.

In the most back-and-forth between the pair, Usman had been asked about a potential matchup with Chimaev and explained he was open to the fight, but that ‘Borz’ had to be disciplined and make it to the welterweight limit.

‘Hey, this is the guy you guys are saying is the next guy in the division.’ OK, give me that guy. I said that to Dana,” Usman began. At the end of the day, I have been and still am the bogeyman of this division. I asked for (Khamzat). If you want to fight, you want to be a champion, cut the f—ng weight. And come and fight.” (H/T BloodyElbow)

Never one to hold his tongue, Chimaev responded to Usman, telling him to come meet him up at middleweight. Moving up in weight is something that Usman  had previously spoken about.

Kamaru Usman, Why you talking about me?” Chimaev asked. “You said you wanted to fight at 84 kilos [Middleweight], the weight is no problem for you. You are bogeyman, but I am the wolf. Come up.”

Dan Hooker Jalin Turner UFC 290

After an insane battle with Jalin Turner at UFC 290, Dan Hooker has now revealed the true extent of the damage he suffered, and clarified if he did truly “break his arm”.

After the split-decision victory, ‘The Hangman’ was interviewed by Joe Rogan inside the octagon. Hooker made for quite a sight, as his hair was stained red from all the blood spilled during the fight. “He’s (Jalin Turner) a tough kid,” Hooker chuckled. “Scrappy… I wanted my hair pink (with blood) from the fight and I got it.”

Rogan would ask Dan Hooker if he broke his arm during the fight and the fighter grinned and said: “Just a scratch, but, we’ll have to see.” This would prompt Hooker and Rogan to begin laughing, and later on ‘The Hangman’ would indeed go to the hospital where x-rays would show he broke his wrist during the insane battle.

Later on that night, Hooker would tweet a photo of the x-ray of his broken wrist. An injury that is not the end of the world, but, definitely will keep him sidelined for a while and impact his daily life for quite some time.

At the post-fight press conference, Dana White himself would reveal that Hooker broke his wrist in the second round of the fight. Dan Hooker’s spirits seemed to be high though, as ‘The Hangman’ would later on post a picture of him and Jalin Turner side-by-side in the hospital.

While the pair would not end up winning the “Fight of The Night” bonus, Hooker would, in fact, receive 20% of Jalin Turner’s fight purse due to ‘The Tarantula’ missing weight leading into the fight.

What’s next for Dan Hooker after that bloody battle at UFC 290?

Sean Strickland Ali Abdelaziz Maycee Barber

UFC middleweight contender Sean Strickland is never far away from controversy. In a recent interview with James Lynch, Strickland opened up about why he and Ali Abdelaziz might be in for a “fistfight” and why UFC flyweight Maycee Barber might despise him now.

Last seen at UFC Vegas 76, Sean Strickland impressed with his second-round finish of Abus Magomedov. Strickland took advantage of an evidently exhausted Magomedov to apply the pressure in the second round tremendously. Eventually, Strickland would catch Magomedov with huge shots that led to a flurry of brutal ground and pound to provoke the referee’s stoppage for the TKO victory.

Abus Magomedov is one of the fighters Ali Abdelaziz manages. In Lynch’s interview with Strickland, the UFC star would speak about how Abdelaziz arranged the fight between him and Magomedov.

Sean Strickland opens up about the beef with Ali Abdelaziz and speaks on why Maycee Barber doesn’t like him

“(Ali) watched me spar and then next thing you know it’s like ‘Hey, three weeks later we got this guy we want you to fight,’” Strickland began, speaking to James Lynch. “There’s a lot of f***ed up s*** you guys, I’m not gonna go into it. (The fight) felt like a little personal… There’s a chance that me and Ali are gonna be fist fighting…I’m really hoping that I see Ali, it’s like ‘Oh Sean you’re a white trash motherf***er I like you.’ Or, it could be like ‘Hey f*** you, Sean.’ Either way man, I hope it’s cool. But if not, I’m always down for a good time.”

During the interview, Maycee Barber would walk by, and this prompted Sean Strickland to mention the drama surrounding them and why she may “not like him” now.

“She went on (Twitter) and she was talking about fans telling her she should go kill herself,” Strickland said. “And I was like ‘Welcome to life. What do you think, they’re just gonna say they wanna have sex with you and you’re pretty?’ That is the other side of the coin there Miss Maycee. As you’re loved, you’re also hated. So I think she got a little bit mad.”

Although this is pretty typical behavior for Sean Strickland at this point, it could be said that it’s entertaining that the UFC middleweight seems to always land himself in hot water when it concerns beef or drama. Undoubtedly, this will not be the last time we hear about Sean Strickland having beef with somebody or saying something “frowned upon” by modern society.

What do you think is the next fight for Sean Strickland?

Israel Adesanya labeled racist following expletive filled rant at UFC 290 at Dricus du Plessis

Sharing a tense face-off with surging middleweight contender and expected next title challenger, Dricus du Plessis at UFC 290 last night, undisputed division champion, Israel Adesanya has been blasted by fans and labelled as “racist” by an ex-UFC fighter, following an expletive-filled tirade aimed at the South African.

Adesanya, a two-time and current undisputed middleweight champion, managed to regain the 185-pound championship at UFC 287 back in April in Miami, Florida – stopping Brazilian rival, Alex Pereira with a second round knockout in ‘The Sunshine State’.

Attending UFC 290 last night, Adesanya, who watched a clash between former champion and two-time foe, Robert Whittaker and the aforenoted rival, du Plessis, appears to have landed his next opponent off the back of the main card clash.

Improving to 6-0 since his transition to the UFC, surging contender, du Plessis became the first fighter other than Adesanya and Stephen Thompson to finish fan-favorite striker, Whittaker with strikes, securing his championship outing with a second round TKO triumph.

Met by Nigerian-Kiwi Adesanya inside the Octagon for a heated face-off following his victory against Whittaker, du Plessis and the champion shared a tense verbal onslaught, with Israel Adesanya using the ‘n-word’ on multiple occasions in a bid to stoke the flames of his rivalry with the victor.

Israel Adesanya has been labeled as “racist” following his rant at UFC 290

And heavily criticized across social media for his brash display and use of language in their racially-charged face off, Israel Adesanya has been branded as a “racist” by many users, including former UFC featherweight, Andy Ogle

Sharing his own thoughts on Adesanya’s attempt to hype up a fight against him, Pretoria native, du Plessis claimed that the City Kickboxing talent was a “clown”, and predicted a knockout victory over the middleweight kingpin.

“He (Israel Adesanya) knows what a force I am in there,” Dricus du Plessis said after UFC 290. “You could feel the energy, and I could feel how insignificant he is to me when we get into that cage. I’m prepared for everything. Everything he says – he’s behaving like a clown in there. That’s not how a champion behaves, that’s not how a man behaves, he’s behaving like a child. Conduct yourself like a champion. There’s people looking up to you , and you’re behaving like that?”
“I’ll knock him out, just like I did tonight,” Dricus du Plessis explained. “You know, if not – we saw his fight with Alex Pereira, if I get him to the floor, it is not even a fight. It’s not even a fight – if I just get my hands on him, it’s not even a fight. I will manhandle him. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.”

Yet to book his Octagon return, Adesanya is expected to headline UFC 293 in September in the promotion’s return to Sydney, Australia, with a bout against du Plesis expected to be confirmed imminently.

Kamaru Usman claims Khamzat Chimaev is flirting with him online stop using me for clout UFC

Off the back of a seemingly scuppered pairing against the unbeaten, Khamzat Chimaev, despite links to a UFC 294 matchup in October, former undisputed welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman has claimed the Chechen-born contender is “flirting” with him on social media, however, has no actual interest in fighting against him.

Usman, the current number one ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined since headlining UFC 286 back in March of this year, suffering a close, majority decision loss to Birmingham native, Leon Edwards in the pair’s championship trilogy rubber-match in London, England.

As for Chimaev, the undefeated number four ranked challenger has yet to return to the Octagon since he co-headlined UFC 279 back in September, securing his twelfth consecutive professional win, courtesy of a first round D’Arce choke submission win over Kevin Holland.

Off the back of his second career loss to Edwards, Usman, who admitted he was chomping at the bit for an immediate return to the Octagon, has welcomed the possibility of fighting Chimaev as his next opponent, as the pair attempt to land a welterweight title fight.

However, a certain speedbump in the form of a catchweight clash between the two has arisen, with links to a UFC 294 clash in Abu Dhabi, UAE in October, firmly kiboshed by UFC leader, Dana White.

Kamaru Usman claims “logistical” issues led to failed Khamzat Chimaev fight

Claiming during fight week ahead of UFC 290 that “logistical” issues had forced the abandoning of a fight between himself and Chimaev, Auchi native, Usman urged the former to just cut sufficient weight, and fight him, or stop using him to bolster his name.”

“At the end of the day, I have been and still am the boogeyman of this division,” Kamaru Usman told assembled media during UFC 290. “I asked for (Khamzat Chimaev). If you want to fight, you want to be a champion, cut the f*cking weight. And come and fight.”

“… Khamzat is – at the end of the day, this guy keeps flirting with me online,” Kamaru Usman explained. “He’s flirting back and forth with me online. At this point, he’s using me for clout. If you want to fight, cut the weight and let’s fight. If not? Stop using me for clout. Stop flirting with me online.”
