Ahead of UFC London this weekend in the promotion’s second outing in the UK this year, lightweight feature, Paddy Pimblett and popular flyweight contender, Molly McCann have both sided with the promotion on the infamous and notable issue of fighter pay, compensation, and revenue split between the organization and fighters on their roster.

Set for this third Octagon walk this weekend as he features on the main card at The O2 Arena, Paddy Pimblett draws submission artist, Jordan Leavitt over the course of three rounds, while fellow Liverpool native, McCann meets Hannah Goldy.

Earlier this year, Pimblett managed to rally from a brief scare in the first frame against promotional alum, Kazula Vargas, submitting the Mexico native with a rear-naked choke soon thereafter.

As for Next Generation MMA training partner, McCann, the fellow Cage Warriors alum turned in a contender for Knockout of the Year – stopping Luana Carolina with a brutal spinning back elbow in the third round of their preliminary card matchup.

Following the event, reports detailed how Paddy Pimblett had received a payday of $12,000 to show, and a further $12,000 for how victory over Vargas, sending fans into raptures due to his relatively low paycheck received.

Paddy Pimblett implys fighters must have the “whole package” to receive a higher payday

However, ahead of their return to this weekend, Pimblett and McCann have defended the UFC over the rising issue, which has been a forefront topic of the sport in recent years.

“People moan about the wages, but if you’re a boring fighter, (with) no personality, it’s always stuff like that,” Paddy Pimblett told Gary Neville on The Overlap. “They never go, ‘Ah, yeah, it’s my own fault.’ Or, ‘I’m a boring bastard.’ Some people can’t talk on a mic, but they’re boss in the cage. I always say, you’ve got to have the whole package.”

As for McCann, the Liverpudlian praised the promotion for flying it’s roster from country to country as well as footing the bill for “five-star hotels”.

“No other promotion would fly you around the world to put you in the five-star hotels,” Molly McCann said. “When you arrive, you send them your weight, and they’ll come up with a refeed program. They’ll give you food all of the week. They’re with you non-stop.”

“Then you’ve got the Performance Institute, which is like the ESI (English Institue of Sport). … We’ve got one in Las Vegas where you’re allowed to go and use for free, so you’re constantly got free physio, strength and conditioning programs.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

Paddy Pimblett’s weight cuts have already become the talk of the mixed martial arts world with just two fights in the UFC.

Following his win over Rodrigo Vargas in London this March, Pimblett went on a much-publicized eating binge that saw the fighter grow from his fight night weight of 155 pounds to 202 pounds, a 47-pound increase in just a matter of weeks.

Speaking with Gary Neville on his Sky Sports show The Overlap, ‘The Baddy’ appeared with his close friend and fellow UFC fighter Molly McCann to talk about Pimblett’s upcoming fight with Jordan Leavitt on July 23rd and his recent weight gain.

“We’ve struggled in the past when we’ve been unprofessional about it,” Pimblett said. “But now we’re very professional about it, so we don’t. People say to me ‘oh, you’re fat,’ and think I struggle, I’ve still got 14.5kg to lose, but that’s nothing. Around six weeks ago, I was 93kg and I fight at 70. That was me being fat.”

Paddy Pimblett Documents His Insane Post-UFC London Eating Binge

In an episode of the Liverpudlian’s YouTube series ‘BaddyTV’, Pimblett documented his post-UFC London eating including a day where the fighter reportedly consumed nearly 11,000 calories.

Many, including Neville, questioned whether or not the ability to gain and lose weight as he has is sustainable long-term. Paddy Pimblett admitted that at some point, he will likely make an effort to keep his weight at a reasonable rate between fights rather than relying on his ability to cut an extreme amount heading into a bout.

“I might grow up a bit more and actually keep my weight down a bit. I was in America drinking gallons of Coke every day, eating 7,000 calories a day, easy.” The Monday after my fight I got home and I just went for scrans the next day. I went for Nando’s and then I was just eating chocolate all day. I counted my calories and I ate 11,000 calories the Monday after I fought. That was without trying, my cheeks were all like [puffed out]. I’ll do 5kg overnight, I’d do 10lb in a bath overnight.”

Pimblett went on to discuss some of his weight-cutting measures following the excessive gains made after his last appearance.

“We get put in a bath hot, like a sauna, it’s not a nice bath, it’s roasting and when you get out your skin is red. You lie on like a towel as well with sleeping bags, they wrap you in a quilt and you lie there and carry on sweating and you just repeat and repeat until you make weight.”

‘The Baddy’ returns to his home country on July 23rd to face Jordan Leavitt. It will be the UFC’s second appearance in London, the first coming in March where the promotion delivered a critically-acclaimed card loaded with highlight-reel finishes. Many of the fighters scheduled for the March event will return for this month’s highly-anticipated return to the UK.

Jared Cannonier is not ready to be in the partying crowd while sitting cageside at a UFC event.

One perk of being a UFC fighter is you get to attend events and sit cageside. Seats that close to the action are exciting and can sometimes be pretty rowdy. This is something that Jared Cannonier found out firsthand.

He was in the crowd watching UFC 274 this past Saturday night when the camera zoomed in on him. He was surrounded by fellow fighters Molly McCann, Paddy Pimbeltt, and Ajamain Sterling. What happened next was very amusing to all except Cannonier by the looks of it.

Cannonier was asked about this moment after the fight.

“I’m there to watch the fights. I’m there to watch the circus, not be a part of the circus,” Cannonier told The MMA Hour via Sportskeeda. “No offense to anyone involved. I respect each and every one of my cohorts. I’m just doing me, man. They’re doing them. That’s me. I’m staying in my zone, staying in my energy, protecting my energy.

“I really don’t like being surrounded by a lot of people that I don’t know, who I’m not familiar with, who I don’t trust. I guess it’s a stigma that I picked up from the Army. I don’t like being around a lot of people.”

Cannonier has a big fight coming up. It was just announced that he will be taking on middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in Cannonier’s first title fight. That fight will be taking place at UFC 276 in July.

Cannonier seems like a very serious guy, and if he has begun his training for his title fight, he may be more subdued than ever. That is not the case for the other three, who are coming off recent wins.

“They were rowdy, especially Molly,” he said. “They’re cool, they’re all cool. I got no qualms with any of them … But Molly, every time I looked up at the screen I saw her drink hovering above my head. Yeah man, me and my wife got a bit of beer on the back of us but no biggie, it’s all good. They didn’t pour a whole beer, they didn’t douse us. We got spritzed a bit every now and then.”

McCann and Pimblett are two fresh faces in the UFC, and their character and wild nature are what make them fan favorites.

Would you want to sit with McCann, Pimblett, and Sterling at a UFC event?
