Muhammad Mokaev managed to stop Cody Durden early in his UFC London debut with a guillotine

Muhammad Mokaev, an alum of Brave CF, successfully made his UFC debut back in March at The O2 Arean – opening the UFC London card with a dominant, quickfire guillotine win over Cody Durden.

31-year-old LFA flyweight champion, Johnson is undefeated in his last four consecutive outings, most recently defeating the then-undefeated Carlos Mota with a fifth round knockout back at LFA 122 in January of this year. ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto was first to report Mokaev’s return against Johnson this summer.

“21-year-old flyweight prospect Muhammad Mokaev (@muhammadmokaev) has booked his second appearance in the UFC, per sources,” Brett Okamoto tweeted. “Will meet LFA champ Charles Johnson (@InnerGMMA) on July 23. Super high on Mokaev. Big shot for Johnson to derail him in his UFC debut.”

6-0 as a professional, Mokaev, a decorated IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation) gold medalist and veteran, enjoyed a storied, unbeaten amateur career prior to his professional bow back in August 2020.

Competing under the Brave CF banner in the Middle East on five separate occasions, Mokaev landed wins over Glenn McVeigh, Jamie Kelly, Abdul Hussein, and Bellator MMA alum, Blaine O’Driscoll before his March UFC bow.

Presenting a sizeable threat to Mokaev’s undefeated record on paper, Johnson, a trainee of Tiger Muay Thai boasts an 11-2 professional record. Prior to his above-mentioned success against Mota, Johnson defeated the trio of Joao Camillo, Yuma Horiuchi, and Karlee Pangilinan.

Muhammad Mokaev Demands Apology From Conor McGregor Amid Dagestan Comments

UFC flyweight newcomer, Muhammad Mokaev has demanded a public apology from former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor for flagrant comments made regarding the region of Dagestan and its people during and after his rivalry with former lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Mokaev, an alum of Brave CF – extended his undefeated record to six straight fights back in March in the opening bout of UFC London – submitting Cody Durden with a one-sided opening round guillotine choke.

Muhammad Mokaev has been touted to eventually challenge for UFC flyweight gold

The victory marked Mokaev’s landing the UFC, with the undefeated IMMAF veteran expected to return this summer in a potential June card back in the United Kingdom.

Speaking recently off the back of his successful UFC debut against Durdan, Mokaev explained how he received a pay increase in a sponsorship deal with TIDL – when McGregor partnered with the recovery brand.

“Initially, I was getting $5,000 for each fight,” Muhammad Mokaev told on the YouTube channel, Smesh Bros. “He (Conor McGregor) purchased TIDL before the (Dustin) Poirier rematch and I thought they would terminate my contract. And at the time, I was very outspoken. Especially, if someone talked about Dagestan. I thought they would terminate my deal, but Conor texted me and they raised the pay to $8,000…”

However, despite Mokaev’s retention of his sponsorship with TIDL, as well as his pay rise courtesy of McGregor – the uber-prospect maintains that when he meets the former duel-division champion, he has to apologize for comments made about Dagestan and its people.

“When I see Conor (McGregor), he will have to apologize for all he said about my people,” Muhammad Mokaev said. “The apology is primary and it matters more than the sponsorship. I talked to Audie Attar (Paradigm Sports Management founder) about it and he said that Conor regrets his statements. I think there’s nothing wrong with apologizing, I believe Conor would gain respect from it. I can’t ask him to do it via text message, he said things publicly, so the apology has to be public too. I believe he will apologize, I’m sure about it.”

Of note recently, McGregor has aimed several outbursts at rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov, as well as the surging lightweight contender, Islam Makhachev – calling the latter “inbred” as well as the people of Dagestan in a series of deleted tweets in recent months.

When Muhammad Mokaev said he wanted to rise the ranks quick in order to break Jon Jones’ record as the youngest-ever UFC champion, he really meant it…

Mokaev may be just one fight into his career inside the Octagon, but that hasn’t stopped him shooting high when it comes to the opponent for his sophomore appearance on MMA’s biggest stage.

In recent days, the British-Dagestani has dedicated himself to an opponent search. As well as calling out the #2-ranked Kai Kara-France, who many believe should be next in line for a shot at Deiveson Figueiredo’s gold, Mokaev set his sights on a foe at the opposite end of the top 10.

Sharing an image of himself alongside #10-ranked flyweight David Dvorak, Mokaev called the Czech fighter out for a bout this summer. He also tagged the 29-year-old in a similar post on his Instagram Stories.

Not keen to give up after no response, Mokaev messaged his fellow 125lber asking him to “sign the contract.” When Dvorak read the message and didn’t respond, “The Punisher” took to Twitter to share a screenshot of the ignored messages and to question Dvorak’s ranking.

“When you see and don’t answer Is he really top 10? Or just number”

Mokaev & Dvorak Had Differing Fortunes In March

At UFC Columbus on March 26, Dvorak made his fourth UFC appearance. In his three prior outings, he’d emerged victorious against Bruno Gustavo da Silva, Jordan Espinosa, and Juancamilo Ronderos, wins which extended his MMA record to 20-3 and his active win streak to 16.

Unfortunately for the Czech 29-year-old, a lackluster performance inside the Nationwide Arena saw Matheus Nicolau become the first to defeat him since 2012. With his rise stalled, he’ll likely have to fight down the rankings in his next bout in an effort to rebound.

Mokaev, meanwhile, left the Octagon a week prior a lot happier. The unbeaten youngster signed for the UFC last November after success as a high-level wrestler and amateur MMA fighter.

His much-anticipated debut came in front of a home crowd in the UK, where he moved to at the age of 12. At UFC London on March 19, “The Punisher” shared the cage with Cody Durden. While his first outing lasted just 58 seconds, it wasn’t short of action.

The 21-year-old floored his American foe with a brutal flying knee, before finishing the fight with a guillotine choke.

With gold on his mind, it’s unsurprising to see Mokaev targeting a high-ranked opponent for his second fight in the UFC. We’ll see if he gets his wish in the coming weeks and months.

Muhammad Mokaev has gotten his wish.

Mokaev, a highly-touted prospect, signed with the UFC just a few weeks ago and after Cody Durden said he was sending Aoriqileng back to China, Mokaev took to social media saying he wanted to fight the “racist” and smash him in his UFC debut.

Now, according to MMAJunkie, Mokaev vs. Durden is set to take place on March 19 which is targeted to be a UFC London card. Mokaev has since confirmed the fight on social media.

Muhammad Mokaev (5-0 and one No Contest) is just 21-years-old and coming off a second-round submission win over Blaine O’Driscoll at BRAVE CF 54 in September. He’s the former IMAAF bantamweight champion and also holds a notable win over Abdul Hussein. Mokaev was born in Dagestan but trains in England now, so this will also be a homecoming fight for him.

Cody Durden (12-3-1) picked up his first UFC win back at UFC Vegas 43 where he edged out a close decision over Aoriqileng. After the win, the comments he made were not well received as several fighters called him out for being racist, along with Daniel Cormier ending the post-fight interview. In the UFC, he was submitted by Jimmy Flick and in his debut, he fought Chris Gutierrez to a draw.

With the addition of Mokaev vs. Durden at flyweight, the March 19 card is as follows:

  • Francisco Figueiredo vs. Jake Hadley
  • Luana Carolina vs. Molly McCann
  • Cody Durden vs. Muhammad Mokaev

New UFC signee Muhammad Mokaev is hoping to make a splash in the world’s premier MMA promotion by becoming its youngest ever champion.

Mokaev became the youngest fighter on the UFC roster when he put pen to paper on a deal earlier this week. Prior to his 2020 venture into the professional side of mixed martial arts, the Dagestani-born Englishman made his name on the amateur circuit.

In building an unblemished 23-0 record, which is one of the longest undefeated streaks in amateur MMA, Mokaev became a two-time IMMAF junior world champion, and collected gold in the ADCC UK Championships in 2019 and the IMMAF WMMAA Open Championships in 2020.

Since signing his first professional deal with the Brave Combat Federation last June, Mokaev has continued the momentum from his amateur successes, going 5-0-1 in six outings. Across his victories, “The Punisher” secured two via rear-naked chokes. He’ll be looking to continue his undefeated record in the sport when he enters the Dana-White led promotion, a destination he predicted he’d reach back in 2018.

Mokaev Hopes To Make An Immediate Impact

Despite being the youngest fighter in the UFC at just 21, Mokaev is not holding back with his lofty ambitions. Although he’ll be entering the flyweight division, one of the most exciting weight classes in the promotion, the Brit is looking to push past the likes of Brandon Moreno, Deiveson Figueiredo, Cody Garbrandt, Askar Askarov, and Alexandre Pantoja on his way to becoming the youngest champion in UFC history.

“I’m really excited, but this is not my final destination,” Mokaev told MMA Junkie on signing with the UFC. “This is part of my journey to become the greatest so my dream is to become the youngest UFC champion. I’m excited but at the same time, it’s not my final destination.”

That current title is held by Jon Jones. The former two-time light heavyweight champ secured the accolade by dethroning Mauricio Rua at the age of 23 in 2011. With just north of two years to achieve his goal of having gold wrapped around his waist younger than “Bones,” Mokaev isn’t looking to waste any time.

When asked what his targets are for 2022, the year in which he’ll make his first appearance in the Octagon, “The Punisher” revealed he’s targeting contention and a top spot in the 125-pound rankings.

“Top five and be a contender for the title fight.”

Having only recently signed with the UFC, Mokaev’s first opponent is yet to be determined. However, the 21-year-old has made his desire to fight Cody Durden known. Durden recently made headlines for a comment he made in the aftermath of his UFC Vegas 43 victory over Aoriqileng. He told Daniel Cormier he’d wanted to send his flyweight peer “back to China.”

Having immediately called the American out on Twitter, Mokaev reiterated his willingness to “smash” Durden during an appearance on The MMA Hour.
