Dana White addresses if the UFC plans to book Nate Diaz vs. Dustin Poirier once again after their first fight was nixed.

The Las Vegas-based promotion had this fight booked at UFC 230 pay-per-view event on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City. This was supposed to serve as the co-headliner. However, that wasn’t meant to be as Poirier suffered an injury.

In his latest fight, Poirier was able to score a second round stoppage victory over former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC on FOX 30 event (July 28, 2018). This marked his third straight win inside of the Octagon as he holds victories over Anthony Pettis and Justin Gaethje.

Diaz has not been seen in the Octagon since his rematch with Conor McGregor back at UFC 202 when he suffered a majority decision loss which came five months after Diaz submitted McGregor in their first bout at UFC 196.

Now, with the news that Poirier was receiving stem cell injections in his injured hip, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reached out to the UFC President.

The question was asked in hopes of getting a comment about potentially re-booking this lightweight showdown. However, White has made it known that he won’t book another fight involving Diaz until he’s ready to fight.

“I’m not interested in making a Diaz fight until Diaz is just absolutely dying to fight. When he’s ready to fight he’ll let us know.”

Well, there you have it. Poirier will look to get his next fight lined up once he’s 100% healthy. UFC 230 will proceed with the main event of Daniel Cormier defending the UFC heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis.

The UFC President has been telling fans for several weeks now that they are working on a main event for the show but has yet to announce it. Diaz believes that they have no one else to fill this role.

“They trying to have me headline for Madison Square Garden. They don’t got nobody else, but they don’t want Dustin to fight. So I’m down down for whatever they want. All comers, bring it the (expletive) on.”

Diaz claimed that he heard that the UFC was considering this new weight class. He also noted that he’s the one asking for it and not the UFC. Thus, he’s not excited for the fight but he’s stuck in it.

The opening odds for the big return fight for Nate Diaz have been released leading into a lightweight showdown against Dustin Poirier at the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view event.

Diaz has not been seen in the Octagon since his rematch with Conor McGregor back at UFC 202 when he suffered a majority decision loss which came five months after Diaz submitted McGregor in their first bout at UFC 196.

Since then, Diaz has been biding his time since a third bout has been off the table with McGregor, but now, he’s ready to fight once again, and it appears that Diaz’s stock clearly remains strong as he will be in a big fight in a return to the lightweight division, which is where he competed for the mass majority of his career where he has picked up wins over the likes of Michael Johnson, Gray Maynard and Donald Cerrone.

On the flip side, Poirier has picked up some big wins over top names in the past nine months including ex-champ Anthony Pettis, ex-WSOF champ Justin Gaethje, and most recently ex-UFC champ Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC on FOX 30 event (July 28, 2018) at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada that aired on big FOX.

Switching gears to the betting odds, the opening line features Poirier as a -175 favorite against the +150 Diaz, which in the event that you plan on betting on this fight then those lines mean that a $100 bet would result in a net profit of $57.14 while a $100 bet on Diaz would earn $150.
