Well, the narrative surrounding UFC 158’s (March 16, 2013) main event title fight between then welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz continues to become more and more strange. In a recent interview after his 18-month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) was lifted, Diaz claimed that he was drugged prior to the fight with St. Pierre, an outlandish claim that his boxing coach, Richard Perez, also spoke on earlier today (August 8, 2016).

As if that wasn’t odd enough, St. Pierre’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach, John Danaher, recently said that the Canadian star was vomiting all night ahead of the fight due to faulty watermelon juice:

“Georges drank some watermelon juice for rehydration that had been too long out of the fridge and got a badly upset stomach,” Danaher wrote on Instagram. “He spent the entire night vomiting. It was so sad to see such a perfect camp get ruined at the last minute by such a minor oversight. The night of the fight, Mr St-Pierre came in underweight and drained. We had to curtail the warm up for fear of exhausting him before the bout even began.”

Danaher said that although “Rush’s” camp was ‘flawless’, there’s always unforeseen events that could potentially take place. In the end, however, St. Pierre scored a dominant decision victory over Diaz, a performance that Danaher felt showed off the Canadian’s true championship worth given the circumstances:

“Mr St-Pierre showed why he was a great champion that night, putting on a dominant shut-out performance to win a unanimous decision – no one in the audience would have guessed how serious a problem he had to overcome,” Danaher wrote. “He used a system of pacing the rounds and timing the takedowns and allowing standing escapes to maintain the pace of the fight whilst controlling the action but at the same time, not exhausting himself. It worked brilliantly and the problem was overcome.”

What do you make of these somewhat puzzling claims coming from both camps? Also, with Diaz’s suspension up and St. Pierre recently saying that he was ready to return after vacating his title years back, would you like to see the two run it back a second time?

Nick Diaz’s Coach Details Strange Situation With GSP’s Nurse

Former WEC and Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz is finally free to return to the UFC Octagon after serving out an 18-month suspension handed to him by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) due to a positive test for Marijuana surrounding his January 2015 fight with Anderson Silva. Despite being a free man, Diaz’s return to action isn’t set in stone as of now given the fact that he’s only interested in big fights with big names.

The Stockton Bad Boy recently spoke on fighting once more, but he also reflected on one of the biggest fights of his life, a welterweight title clash with former longtime champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 158 in 2013. Despite claiming to be in the best shape of his life, Diaz was essentially dominated by St. Pierre, but he actually said that he may have drugged before the fight.
Diaz’s longtime boxing coach Richard Perez recently touched on this matter in an interview with Submission Radio, detailing the strange situation with St. Pierre’s nurse:

“Oh yeah, yeah, I remember that. Yeah I was there and it was Georges St. Pierre’s nurse or something, came down and he wanted to give Nick some kind of stuff. And I told Nick not to do it, but he gave it to him. So that’s what he’s talking about.”
“I don’t know what it was. I’m not saying that it was a drug or anything, but I just know that he looked different (in the fight).” “He said he worked with Georges St-Pierre.”

Although he wasn’t able to confirm what exactly the substance was, Perez said that it undoubtedly effected Diaz’s performance in the fight:

“Of course because he was up all night urinating. I mean he wasn’t feeling good because he was going to the bathroom a lot. I mean, I don’t know what it did, but I know he was going to the bathroom a lot, so it probably dehydrated him and drained him. I don’t know, but I just know I was sitting there and the guy wanted to give him something. I don’t know what it was for. I told him no, but he said it wouldn’t even hurt him. It was strange.”

What do you make of these odd claims?

Tyron Woodley Explains Why He Doesn’t Want ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson Fight

Newly minted UFC welterweight champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley has received some criticism after winning the title this past weekend (July 30, 2016) at UFC 201, but not for his performance, as his first round knockout over Robbie Lawler was as definitive as it gets. Newly minted UFC welterweight champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley has received some criticism after winning the title this past weekend (July 30, 2016) at UFC 201, but not for his performance, as his first round knockout over Robbie Lawler was as definitive as it gets. Woodley, however, raised some eyebrows when he announced who he’d like to fight next.

Showing no interest in facing off with the clear cut No. 1-contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, Woodley instead said he’d like to fight retired former longtime champion Georges St. Pierre or returning fan favorite and former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz.
Speaking on yesterday’s edition of The MMA Hour, “The Chosen One” explain his reasoning for throwing out names like St. Pierre and Diaz:

“I want to say I’m the best in the world,” Woodley said. “Right now I’m the UFC welterweight champion of the world. People can say I’m the best in the world, but I’ve fought Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz is not a retired fighter. So, why not compete against Nick Diaz, who is definitely a top-five (fighter)? I feel like his brother is finally cashing in on that big payday, but I do believe Nick Diaz has brought enough attention to the sport, raised enough eyebrows, put enough butts in the seats, sold enough pay-per-view buys. Maybe he deserves — since we’re using this world ‘deserves’ so much — maybe he deserves to cash out, and that’s why I made a suggestion for UFC 202. It’s three weeks away, I’m in great shape, and I know he’s training with his brother getting him ready for his fight.

“Secondly, Georges St-Pierre is the best of all-time. I can say I’m better than Georges, but I’ve not competed against him so I can’t really make that bold statement. If Georges St-Pierre decides that he wants to come back and he’s interested in fighting me, which he is, that’s going to be my No. 1 pick.

“But in hindsight I would like to fight both of them. I would like to prepare myself, get through Georges St-Pierre, shock the world once again, they say that I’m the best in the world, and then after that I would like to fight Nick Diaz as well. Because (after) those two fights, nobody can ever say I’m not one of the best welterweights on the planet Earth. If I knock out Robbie Lawler — who was the goliath of the weight division, everybody was thinking he was so invincible and unbeatable — and if I knock out GSP and Nick Diaz, I pretty much cemented myself in the UFC Hall of Fame.”

As far as Thompson goes, Woodley says his words may have come back to bite him. “Wonderboy”, who is has scored back-to-back dominant wins over former champion Johny Hendricks and top contender Rory MacDonald, had previously said that he’d rather fight Lawler. Now, Woodley is willing to grant him that wish:
“Also, Wonderboy’s words just bit him in the butt. I didn’t put these words in his mouth. He said that Robbie Lawler would take this fight. He felt that the fans would want to watch Robbie Lawler fight against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, that it would be a more exciting fight, that I would fade in the later rounds and he felt like Robbie Lawler was going to take it home.

“When he makes those statements, and you’re not the pay-per-view buy, you’re not the money fight, you’re not the (guy who) people are going to be jumping off the wall buying pay-per-views to watch Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ fight — not to say in his career that won’t happen, he’s an exceptional fighter, he’s beaten two phenomenal athletes back-to-back — but when he said those words out of his mouth, he wrote a check his ass couldn’t cash. So now he’ll get his chance to fight Robbie Lawler and I’ll go out and I’ll prove I’m the very, very best in the world by fighting the Hall of Famers.”

Do you agree with Woodley chasing the ‘money fight’, or should a champion face off with the No. 1 contender?

Tyron Woodley Responds To Nick Diaz: He Can Fight For ‘Non-Plastic’ Belt

Nick Diaz has suddenly worked his way right back into the forefront of mixed martial arts media after his 18-month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) ended yesterday (August 1, 2016). Given his name value, Diaz shouldn’t have trouble finding a fight, and he was even called out by newly-minted 170-pound champion Tyron Woodley this past weekend (July 30, 2016).

Recently speaking on that potential scenario, Diaz said he would fight Woodley if given an offer he couldn’t refuse. The Stockton Bad Boy also said that he wasn’t interested in fighting for a ‘piece of plastic’, and that he was already on top. Woodley has since responded to those comments, blasting Diaz’s IQ in the process. “The Chosen One” also said that he may be facing off with former longtime champion Georges St. Pierre next:

“He didn’t make sense. He ‘wanted to fight the best,’ I have the gold. But he don’t want the gold, he ‘made PPV’ without the gold.” Woodley told TMZ.

“I think Nick Diaz is a great fighter. If he realized, that I was actually giving him credit and I was actually wanting to fight him because he was one of the best welterweights in the history of the sport, I think he would’ve answered it quite differently.”

“But as it shows you, his IQ, outside of fighting, is not extremely high.”

“I think I may get an opportunity to fight Georges St-Pierre, which is going to be a bigger payday, so he can go fight for a ‘non-plastic belt’ against somebody else. He might have walked his way out of several seven figures.”

What do you make of these comments, and who should Woodley meet next?

One of MMA’s most polarizing figures is a free man as of today (August 1, 2016) and ready to make his return to the Octagon. Former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz has been out of action since suffering a defeat that was later changed to a no-contest against all-time great Anderson “The Spider” Silva in January 2015. After the bout it was revealed that “The Stockton Bad Boy” had once again tested positive for Marijuana, leading the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to hand him a ludicrous five year suspension.

It’s safe to say that MMA world went crazy backing Diaz, and his suspension was later changed to an 18-month ban dating back to January 2015. Since Diaz has last competed, the sport and the UFC has changed quite a bit, but one thing that hasn’t changed is Diaz’s star power, and it could even be argued that his popularity has since increased. In fact, he recently told TMZ Sports that he’s ‘on top’ and he’d like to fight the best guy in his highly-anticipated return.

One fight that could be potentially looming on the horizon is a welterweight title fight with newly-minted champ Tyron Woodley, who knocked out Robbie Lawler this past weekend (July 30, 2016) to steal the gold. After his win, Woodley called out Diaz for a battle in just a few weeks at August 20’s UFC 202, an event headlined by Nick’s brother Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor. Regarding that scenario, Diaz said that he’ll need an offer ‘he can’t refuse’, adding that he doesn’t owe anything to anyone.

Carlos Condit Leaning Towards Fighting Again, Eyes Lawler & Diaz

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos “The Natural Born Killer” Condit hasn’t competed since he dropped a highly-controversial decision loss to champion Robbie Lawler in the main event of last January’s UFC 195.

The fight was a fantastic back-and-forth five round war, although many had felt that Condit had done enough to get the job done, as did he and his team.

In the aftermath of the bout, the 32-year-old “Natural Born Killer” admitted that he was contemplating retirement, and he has since to make up his mind on his fighting future.

Yesterday (June 15, 2016), however, Condit posted a video on his Instagram of him smashing the pads with the caption “One more”, leading many to believe that he was teasing a return. He then appeared on The Luke Thomas Show to explain that although fans may have looked too far into his post, he was indeed ‘leaning towards’ a return:

“It was actually, I had done a post right before I posted that one so it was like, ‘okay, one more post.’ So yeah, I guess you guys are looking deeper into that than was really there…As far as whether I’m gonna do another fight or not I feel like it’s up in the air. I’m leaning towards yes, possibly but it has to be something that really piques my attention.”

As far as what fights would pique his interest, obviously a rematch with Lawler is at the top of his list. Condit also admitted, however, that he’d be open to a rematch with Nick Diaz, whose suspension will be up later this summer.

Condit and Diaz squared off for the interim 170-pound strap a few years back in an exciting and close contest that “The Natural Born Killer” would apparently be willing to add a second chapter to:

“Really, honestly a rematch with Lawler without a doubt. Possibly a rematch with [Nick] Diaz. Two scenarios that I can think of that would interest me.”

Typically, fighters start to derail when their passion for the fight game is lost. That isn’t the case for Condit, however, as his passion and fire still remains. The reluctance to return is simply based off of his long term health:

“It’s not that I don’t want to keep going. I still love fighting. I still have a passion for it; I still have a lot of fire. The question is whether it’s the smartest thing for me to keep going. I’ve fought professionally – it’ll be 14 years now in the fall I guess and that’s a lot of wear and tear, that’s a lot of wars in the cage, in the ring, and in the gym. I’ve just got to start thinking about the future. I’m still undecided as far as what that entails but I’ve got to be smart for the long term.

“I think it’s common knowledge that getting punched in the head repeatedly for over a decade is probably not a good thing, probably not good for your health.”

In closing, Condit said that a return wouldn’t take place until likely next year if he indeed decides to strap up his gloves again. The former title-holder did claim, however, that he’d be ready to step in for either Lawler or Tyron Woodley if either man is forced out of their title bout next month:

“I don’t think it would be until next year. I’ve got some stuff going on between now, and the end of the year, that I probably won’t have time to be in a training camp. Early next year possibly, but I’m in shape. If Tyron Woodley or Robbie Lawler get hurt, I’m ready to jump in there and fight for the title again if need be. But as far as a scheduled fight it wouldn’t be until next year.”

Would you like to see Condit return to action?
