Amanda Nunes

Dual-weight UFC champion Amanda Nunes became a mother for the first time earlier today. The Brazilian knockout artist was alongside her partner, fellow UFC bantamweight Nina Ansaroff as she gave birth to a baby girl.

Nunes took to social media to announce the news alongside a picture of herself, Ansaroff and their newborn – check it out.

Nunes has established herself as the best female fighter in MMA history during a six-year, 11-fight winning streak that dates back nearly six years. ‘The Lioness’ picked up the bantamweight belt at UFC 200 in 2016 and has since defended it five times. Nunes later became a two-division champion by taking out Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos inside one round.

The 32-year-old hinted at retirement before booking a fight against top featherweight contender Megan Anderson at UFC 256 on December 12.

Nunes and Ansaroff have been planning a baby for a long time. Speaking on ESPN’s Be Honest with Cari Champion back in 2017, Ansaroff revealed she would carry the child before returning to competition, she said. “I can pause. Get a baby and then come back. A lot of girls in the UFC already have a baby. There’s a bunch of girls that have babies and go back”.

Coming off a loss to Tatiana Suarez, Ansaroff is currently ranked number 5 in the women’s strawweight division. As of right now, it is unknown if she still plans to come back or exactly when that might be.

Everyone at LowKickMMA sends our congratulations to Amanda Nunes and Nina Ansaroff on the birth of their daughter.

UFC fighter Nina Ansaroff has said she’ll be taking 2020 off in order to start a family with dual weight champion Amanda Nunes. The pair have been dating since 2012 and last year announced their engagement. Despite planning a family Ansaroff is planning to comeback quickly to continue her fine form which has saw her win four of her last five fights. Ansaroff has beaten Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger, Angela Hill, Randa Markos and Claudia Gadelha since 2017. However last time out she dropped a unanimous decision to rising star Tatiana Suarez. She’ll now be forced to sit on that loss for more than a year as she starts a family. Speaking to TMZ Sports, about her plans for pregnancy and fighting, she said.

“There’s no official news. Everyone’s waiting, we’re waiting and
when there is official news, everyone will know. I’m taking a year off.
Whatever happens in this year, is going to happen in this year. 100 percent [I
will return]. I’m going to fight at 125 [pounds] though.”

“I’m going to be
training throughout my pregnancy. I’m going to stay in shape. Ansaroff said.
“I’m not going to just not doing anything and jump in. I’ve never had a baby before,
so I don’t know what to expect but I’ve come back from other injuries and
really bad accidents to being a professional athlete where they said it’s not
possible. I don’t know.

“I’ve never had a baby. I’ve had friends that have had babies but they’re also not an athlete but they’re also not me.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

By jumping up 10lbs, Ansaroff will add to the relatively new flyweight division. Current champion Valentina Shevchenko is in desperate need of contenders and Ansaroff could well provide stiff competition. The fight has some background too considering the Ukrainians two previous fights with Nunes at 135lbs.

How far will Nina Ansaroff go in the UFC flyweight division?

Amanda Nunes and Nina Ansaroff could take things to a completely different level in the UFC.

Apparently, the couple are willing to fight each other inside the Octagon. Nunes currently reigns as the UFC women’s bantamweight and featherweight champion of the world. As for Ansaroff, she’s one of the top-ranked 115-pound female fighters in the UFC.

Speaking to TMZ Sports recently, Ansaroff revealed that she and Nunes have actually talked about fighting each other before. Ansaroff said once she captures the title at 115 pounds, she wants to meet her partner in a 125-pound superfight:

“We already talked about it,” Nina said. “After she gets the belt, I’m gonna get my belt at [115 pounds], and then we’re gonna do a super-fight at 125 … we’re so down. We really would try to kill each other. Why not? Bring the money home in the same household.”

Nunes agreed, saying she wants to retire by fighting Ansaroff in the final bout of her career:

“My last fight is gonna be against Nina and then I’m gonna retire.”

Ansaroff adds that the relationship between she and her fiancee is rock solid, and there would be no hard feelings after the fight:

“Afterwards it would be like, ‘that was awesome.’”

Before Nunes can focus on a superfight with her fiancee, however, she has a bantamweight title defense to worry about first. She’ll co-headline UFC 239 on pay-per-view (PPV) against former champion Holly Holm. The show goes down July 6 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Do you think Nunes and Ansaroff would ever really fight each other?

UFC 238 took place this past weekend (Sat. June 8, 2019) from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Prior to the pay-per-view (PPV) portion, several bouts took place on the preliminary card, which aired on ESPN. MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer reports that the broadcast did the Las Vegas-based promotion’s best numbers in three months with 964,000 viewers. The show peaked at 1.2 million viewers during the featured preliminary bout, featuring strawweights Tatiana Suarez and Nina Ansaroff.

The preliminary card was also the highest-rated sports show in the 18-34 male demographic. It beat out MLB baseball on FOX, the Belmont Stakes on NBC, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup. However, all three of those broadcasts drew bigger overall ratings. MLB pulled in 2,560,000 viewers, the Belmont did 4,909,000, and the World Cup hauled in 1,209,000.

Coming in at third overall Saturday night in the 18-49 demographic, as well as third in the male 18-49, and tied for first in the male 12-34 demographic was the UFC 238 prelims. 75 percent of the program’s viewers were male. UFC 238 was also the number one searched item on Google that day, with more than one million searches. The show saw a 47 percent increase in viewers for last June’s PPV prelims, which was the UFC 225 PPV headlined by Robert Whittaker vs. Yoel Romero.

As for the strongest major markets, the UFC pulled in a 0.8 rating in Dallas and an 0.7 in Philadelphia. The weakest major markets were Houston with an 0.2 and Chicago with an 0.3. The prelims also beat out Top Rank boxing, which aired on ESPN shortly after. The show was headlined by a WBO featherweight title bout between Oscar Valdez and Jason Sanchez, which did 799,000 viewers.

The last time the UFC did better numbers was for the UFC 235 PPV prelims in March. Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith in a light heavyweight title fight headlined the show. The preliminary card for that event did 1.48 million viewers.
