Ahead of one of the biggest fights of his mixed martial arts career, Jon Jones apologized to his Spanish fans for the redundant name of black jeans at his local Hollister outlet.

In a matter of hours, ‘Bones’ will put his undisputed heavyweight world title on the line when he meets former two-time titleholder Stipe Miocic in the UFC 309 main event at Madison Square Garden.

Ahead of his return to the Octagon, Jones sat down with Nina-Marie Daniele for another interview that tackled some of the biggest topics on the minds of fight fans — like if he’s learned any new Spanish words since their last conversation.

“Uh, let’s see… I know black is negro,” Jones said. “How do you say black in Spanish? Oh yeah, negro. I’m at Hollister in Albuquerque, and they name the jeans ‘Black Negro.’ That’s all you need.”

That got a laugh out of Daniele, but ‘Bones’ quickly apologized for Hollister’s redundancy and the tongue-in-cheek racism that came with it.

“I’m sorry to all my Spanish fans out there, my Mexican fans,” Jones added. “I was appalled. I’m like, ‘How dare they?’

Clearly not being serious with his apology, Daniele called him out which prompted Jones to add:

“I was offended, but yeah, I was an idiot.”

It was all just a bit of fun between Jones and Daniele, but on Saturday night, it’ll be all business as ‘Bones’ makes his first appearance inside the Octagon since scoring a quickfire submission victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285.

Standing in Jones’ way of another successful title defense is Miocic — considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time. Miocic enters the bout as the only man to hold the division’s top prize twice and holds the record for most consecutive and total title defenses in heavyweight history.

UFC flyweight fighter Veronica Hardy spent some time bonding with Nina-Marie Daniele.

Daniele, also known by her social media persona Nina Drama, has spent a lot of time training with some of the UFC’s top stars both in the cage and on the mat. Recently, she hit the mats with Hardy, a 9-4 fighter who is currently sitting on a three-fight win streak with notable wins over Juliana Miller, Jamey-Lyn Horth, and JJ Aldrich.

During their interaction, Hardy put Drama in multiple uncomfortable positions, choking her out with triangle choke.

“Yeah, you definitely feel that,” Drama asked after feeling Hardy’s squeeze. “I mean, how would you — let’s say you go for it and you had me locked in and I’m here. How do you even get out of something like that?”

Hardy then offered Drama some insight into how you can potential defend the maneuver.

“Right, so what you’re trying to do when somebody grabs you is just trying to compress you in. That’s why you put the arm across and you fold their head. So you’re compressing everything. Legs, arm, everything is being compressed like a snake.”

“Veronica: “They’re very smart. They deliver messages,” Hardy said.

“Exactly,” Drama replied in agreement. And Mike Tyson endorses them.

“That’s what I think at weigh-ins when people get really intense and really close to each other,” Drama quipped.

Strickland helped guide UFC heavyweight Sean Sharaf in the talented brawler’s promotional debut on Saturday in Las Vegas. Sharaf took a fight with Junior Tafa on days’ notice and despite an exciting start, lost by second-round TKO.

Strickland, one of Sharaf’s Xtreme Couture teammates, was a key part of the heavyweight’s rushed fight preparation. Fight fans and broadcast viewers could hear and see Strickland guiding Sharaf in between Rounds 1 and 2.

Strickland hasn’t fought since a win over former UFC title challenger Paulo Costa in June. He’s likely next for UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis; who defended the belt against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.

Strickland lost to du Plessis at UFC 297 by split decision after pulling off a mammoth title fight upset last year. Despite entering UFC 293 as a significant underdog, he pitched a shutout against Adesanya to earn the world title.

While Strickland is known for his controversial moments outside of the cage, his interviews with Nina have shown a comedic sign to the brash UFC star. His sitdowns with Nina are amongst the highest-viewed media appearances of his UFC career.
