Khabib meets Putin

Following the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career, Khabib Nurmagomedov had a call waiting for him from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Considered by some to be the greatest fighter in UFC history, Nurmagomedov’s biggest moment came at UFC 229 in October 2018 when he scored a fourth-round submission victory over Irish megastar Conor McGregor. Immediately following the fight, Putin made the call to congratulate his countryman, but found himself on hold for quite a while as Nurmagomedov notoriously hopped the cage and lept into the crowd to fight one of McGregor’s cornermen — Dillon Danis.

By the time Khabib Nurmagomeov waded through a sea of security staff and police officers, Putin was still on the line and ready to hand ‘The Eagle’ a lavish and life-changing gift.

“He didn’t even make it back to his dressing room after the fight, and Putin was on the phone,” UFC CEO Dana White recounted of the UFC 229 saga on the “Games with Names” podcast. “Putin gave him and his father, like, $20 million worth of property in Russia. Then he went into the Muslim territories where these guys are like, cars, money, gyms, whatever he wanted.”

Nurmagomedov also received a Mercedes given to him by Putin’s ally and Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov, who has gained notoriety for his relationships with UFC fighters, most notably Khamzat Chimaev. It is believed that Chimaev’s close relationship with Kadyrov is why ‘Borz’ is running into issues obtaining a visa to fight in the United States.

White believes Khabib Stopped short of becoming the undisputed MMA GOAT

Two years after his victory over McGregor, ‘The Eagle’ walked away from MMA following the death of his father and longtime trainer, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Since then, White has tried to lure the former lightweight champion back, offering him a reported $40 million to return to the Octagon. But as is the situation with Conor McGregor, once you have the kind of money that Nurmagomedov has, it’s hard to wake up in the morning and willingly get punched in the face.

“Once you get to that level [of Nurmagomedov’s fame], it’s like what we’re dealing with with Conor McGregor,” White said. “Conor McGregor lives in a yacht in the middle of wherever the warmest place in the world is at that time. Once you get to that level, you’re not getting up and getting punched in the face anymore.”

White also believes that Khabib Nurmagomedov’s hasty exit after just three title defenses is the reason he failed to obtain MMA GOAT status in the eyes of the many, himself included.

“The GOAT is Jon Jones,” he said. “Jon Jones is undefeated. Khabib is undefeated, too, but I would have liked to have seen Khabib do more” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Elon Musk already knows how he will defeat Russian leader Vladimir Putin in an MMA match.

Musk has jokingly sent shots at Putin, asking him to meet inside the cage for a match. Musk is currently also helping the Ukrainian efforts in fending off the Russian invasion. Russia is currently targeting the Ukrainian power grids to wipe out the internet and cause dysfunction around the whole area. Ukraine has since used Musk’s satellites, as they are able to use the Internet without their information being in jeopardy.

Putin is a big MMA fan and loves to be around the athletes as well. He attended Fedor Emelianenko’s last fight, as Bellator held the event in Moscow, Russia, before Russian invaded Ukraine. Putin also met with Conor McGregor back in 2018. The two posed for a picture and shared the company of one another during the 2018 World Cup that was hosted in Russian. McGregor even gifted Putin a bottle of his “Proper No.12” Irish whiskey.

Elon Musk joined the NELK boys “Fun Send” podcast when he had issued his challenge towards Putin

“I challenged him [Putin] to single combat. MMA-style. Listen, it’ll be a pay-per-view. It’ll be an interesting question because he’s good at martial arts and he’s pretty buff. You’ve seen those pictures of him on a horse… I do have a bit of a weight advantage… I think I’m 30% bigger than him. I’m going to use a move called the walrus, where I just lie on you. You can’t get away.” Musk said (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Musk is currently one of the richest person in the entire world. He was on the verge of buying Twitter a couple months back, but that deal had ultimately fell through, as there may be some legal dispute around the deal as well.

Conor McGregor posed for a photo with Putin

About four years, Russia hosted the FIFA World Cup final in Moscow. Former UFC two-division champ Conor McGregor was in attendance at the grand event alongside the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The Irish superstar got the opportunity to meet the infamous leader and uploaded a photo with the 69-year-old on his Instagram.

Following the meeting, ‘The Notorious’ heaped praises on Putin for the hospitality he received as a guest. McGregor even announced that he had gifted the first bottle of his Proper 12 whiskey to the Russian President but wasn’t sure if the offering reached past security who inspected the bottle for any poisonous substances. McGregor said, “President Putin’s security detail is second to none as I’m sure you know, you don’t mess around with Vladimir.”

Zelensky critical of the Irish Superstar

In a recent meeting with Irish politicians Sean O Fearghail and Mark Daly in Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv, President Zelensky expressed his disappointment with Conor McGregor. According to the president, McGregor “wasn’t being supportive of Ukraine” by getting a photo taken with the controversial politician.

Given the recent developments surrounding the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, the Irish delegation discussed the issue and offered their support against the aggressors.

“He felt he wasn’t being supportive of Ukraine,” Mr Daly told the Irish Independent. “This man is fighting a war but he knows what’s going on all around the world including in Ireland.”

Senator Daly assured that O Fearghail and he will advise the EU to accept Ukraine’s request of being a member of the union.

“We will be asking our colleagues across Europe to support their application to join the European Union. When they are teaching leadership in universities for years to come, this will be the standard,” he added.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz wants a shot at Russian President Vladimir Putin in a fight.

Blachowicz is set to face Aleksandar Rakic this Saturday in a No. 1 contender fight at UFC Vegas 54. He’s looking to get back to the title fight after losing his belt to Glover Teixeira at UFC 267.

Blachowicz has been following the Russian invasion of Ukraine with a keen eye, as his native Poland shares a border with the invaded country. Members of his family have taken in Ukrainian refugees who are fleeing the warzone.

During a recent interview with the New York Post, Blachowicz was asked what would be his dream matchup in a fight with any opponent of his choosing.

“[Vladimir] Putin. I would show him what [the] whole world wants to show him, where is his place,” Blachowicz replied.

Blachowicz has been critical of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, along with many other UFC fighters. He recently got into a bit of a Twitter spat with middleweight Sean Strickland over the crisis.

While it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see Blachowicz and Putin go toe-to-toe in a fight environment, it’s clear where Blachowicz stands on the Ukrainian invasion.

Jan Blachowicz

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz has named the Russian president Vladimir Putin as the one man he would like to fight.

Jan Blachowicz will be returning to the competition for the first time after losing his title. Ahead of his upcoming bout against Aleksandar Rakic at UFC Fight Night: Blachowicz vs. Rakic, the ‘Polish Power’ connected with The Post’s Scott Fontana for a session of Q&A.

Starting off with conversations about his life-sized model, title loss to Glover Teixeira, and his next fight against Rakic, the 39-year-old was asked an interesting question given the political circumstances.

Blachowicz was asked if he could “fight any person who has ever lived”, who would he pick. The Pole took the opportunity to take a jab at the man heading the attack on Ukraine, Vladimir Putin.

“[Vladimir] Putin. I would show him what [the] whole world wants to show him, where is his place.”

Jan Blachowicz supports Ukraine

Earlier in February, Blachowicz had posted a Ukrainian flag on his Instagram as a sign of protest against the invasion by Russian military forces. Poland shares a border with Ukraine and the two countries have developed a stronger bond since the attack.

‘The Polish Power’ talked about the relationship between the neighbors and shared his thoughts on the ongoing developments.

“Whole Poland like that because you never know what’s going to happen. Whole lot of people from Ukraine escape to Poland. We try to help them. They live in our houses. We help them with how we can. Every day, you wake up, and first thing that you do, you check [the] internet [for] what’s happened, when it was the first week.

“Now, it’s people maybe [are] not used to that but don’t panic like in the first week of war. When you hear [a] weird sound, everybody [would] wake up and watch from the window what’s happened. But Ukraine, they good, they do great job. Nobody expected that they were gonna defend so tough. Russia, they kill children, women over there. They are not soldiers; they are murderers, what they [are] doing over there. I hope that this madness will stop.” (h/t NY Post)

While it’s unlikely he’ll get the dream matchup, his intentions behind the statement are clear. You can watch Jan Blachowicz’s comeback fight this May 14 against Aleksandar Rakic.
