Oscar De La Hoya calls out Floyd Mayweather: 'Stop embarrassing yourself'

Former world champion boxing star, Oscar De La Hoya appears to be less than a fan of former opponent, Floyd Mayweather — claiming the Grand Rapids puncher is just “embarrassing” himself off the back of his rematch exhibition bout with John Gotti III earlier this month in Mexico City.

Mayweather, who retired from professional boxing back in 2017, most recently improved his perfect record to 50-0 in a showdown against mixed martial arts star, Conor McGregor — landing a tenth round TKO win over the Dublin striker in their grudge match in Las Vegas.

Oscar De La Hoya slams Canelo Alvarez as a 'Piece of S***': 'You're making the wrong enemies'

As for De La Hoya, the former world champion boxer called time on his decorated in-ring career back in 2008 following a stunning knockout loss to common-foe, Manny Pacquiao — and has since turned his hand to promoting under the Golden Boy Promotions banner.

However, sharing his thoughts on Mayweather’s rematch exhibition bout with Gotti III earlier this month — in which the former fired an official mid-fight on his way to a pummeling decision, De La Hoya hit out as his former foe for hosting “embarrassing” exhibitions.

“Floyd Mayweather fought another exhibition against (John) Gotti (III) last Saturday, a real sh*t show that left the crowd booing in the arena at the end,” Oscar De La Hoya said on his Instagram account. “In the middle of the second round, Floyd literally had the referee swapped out. He didn’t like that the referee told him to stop hitting behind the head. Floyd is used to having the refs do whatever he wants, and he wasn’t getting his way this time.

“It was so embarrassing,” Oscar De La Hoya explained. “Floyd, you’re 50 years old. You’re a legend in this sport, and I’ve stood up for you in countless interviews, including Shannon Sharpe’s podcast last week. But you have to stop embarrassing yourself with these exhibitions. I know life i hard and life is expensive, but come one man, put your legacy first. Nobody wants to remember you like this.”

Oscar De La Hoya slams Canelo Alvarez as a 'Piece of S***': 'You're making the wrong enemies'

Amid his distinct spat with both promoter, Turki Alalshikh, and former two-division UFC champion, Conor McGregor – super middleweight star, Canelo Alvarez has been hit out at by promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, who claimed the Mexican is “making the wrong enemies”.

Canelo, a current super middleweight champion, is slated to return to action next month in Las Vegas, taking on unbeaten title challenger, Edgar Berlanga with undisputed WBA, WBO, and WBC super middleweight crowns on the line against the New York native.

Sidelined since May of this year, Guadalajara native, Canelo Alvarez most recently turned in an impressive unanimous decision win over compatriot, Jaime Munguia to successfully defend his crown over the course of 12 rounds.

However, amid links to a fight with both world championship stars, Terence Crawford, and David Benavidez, Canelo Alvarez has instead booked a fight with Berlanga – to the dismay of both the above-mentioned, McGregor, and Alalshikh – with the Saudi Adviser hitting out with a fiery response.

Canelo Alvarez Targets Eighth-Round KO of Edgar Berlanga: 'I Make Them Pay When They Piss Me Off' Scheduled to defend his super middleweight crowns next month in Las Vegas, dominant champion, Canelo Alvarez has plans to stop incoming foe, New York native, Edgar Berlanga inside eight rounds in their title grudge match in ‘Sin City’. Set to return to action next month in Las Vegas, Mexican favorite, Alvarez will put his WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight crowns on the line on September 14. in a showdown against unbeaten contender, Berlanga. Last featuring in May in a matchup with Mexico countryman, Jaime Munguia, Alvarez extended his winning spree to four straight fights since his return to his super middleweight stomping ground, turning in a unanimous decision win at the T-Mobile Arena. Himself earning a title fight with Alvarez next month, Berlanga, who boasts an undefeated 22-0 professional record, scored a sixth round knockout win over Belfast puncher, Padraig McCrory in Orlando in his last walk to the squared circle. And sharing the stage at a pre-fight press conference this week ahead of their title matchup next month, Alvarez claimed he would stop Berlanga in the eight round in a brutal knockout with security officials keeping distant between the duo throughout. “You hit like my son,” Canelo Alvarez replied to Edgar Berlanga. “You don’t bring anything to me that I haven’t seen before. Eight rounds – mark my words. I’m not going to have compassion. These kind of motherf*ckers keep me motivated.” https://x.com/Canelo/status/1821006266686435718 “I don’t want to f*ck you up right now because money will be gone,” Canelo Alvarez explained. “I love it [when my opponent p*sses me off]. When someone gets under my skin, I make them pay the hard way. He thinks’s he has more intelligence than me and everyone I’ve fought. Come on, bro. He’s not gonna be able to touch me/. I wanna see him try.”

“I heard what Canelo said that he respects me but doesn’t like the way we do business,” Turki Alalshikh posted on his official X account. “As for him respecting me, it doesn’t matter to me if he does or not. As for the way I do business, I know why he doesn’t like it, because I only target big fights at fair prices, so of course anyone who likes big fights won’t like that.”

“And I know how he feels after losing to Bivol, so he’s been looking for easier fights ever since,” Turki Alalshikh continued. “Also, I’m not the one who’s afraid of fighting Benavidez or Crawford. Therefore, I knew he was wasting our time and making excuses with big amounts of money that can’t be paid. So I’m continuing my way to make big fights that serve the boxing world, and he’s on his way to making eash show-only fights.”

Oscar De La Hoya rekindles Canelo Alvarez spat

And in the aftermath of his clashes with Alalshikh and McGregor, Canelo has been targeted once more by rival, former world champion star, De La Hoya, who claimed he was a “piece of sh*t”.

“As I said weeks ago, this fight [Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga] will not do well on September 14.,” Oscar De La Hoya said on X. “Not only because the match up is okay, but because they’re going up against the UFC’s debut at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Now, that’s a spectacle that everyone and their mother has been waiting to see since it opened up about a year ago. And who is funding it and making it all happen? Turki Alalshikh.”

“Canelo, you’re really making the wrong enemies,” De La Hoya explained. “But you know what? F*ck you.”

Conor McGregor proposes BKFC fight between Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya after verbal spat

Conor McGregor has offered Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez a chance to fight each other after their altercation on Wednesday.

Alvarez is set to box Jaime Munguia on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a highly-anticipated fight, and on Wednesday, a press conference was held and Alvarez and De La Hoya got into it.

De La Hoya used to promote Alvarez but the two had a falling out, and it has not been pleasant. During the press conference, De La Hoya claimed he made Alvarez who he is.

“But that doesn’t change the fact that Golden Boy built Canelo Alvarez, period. The company you fought under for decades has always had one name, and it’s mine, so put some f***** respect on it,” De La Hoya said (via BloodyElbow).

After those comments, Alvarez and De La Hoya got into it verbally as it was a heated altercation.

After the heated press conference, McGregor took to social media to offer them to settle their difference inside the BKFC ring.

“I’d love these two go at it Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. Take off the gloves and fight, bitch!,” McGregor wrote.

Canelo Alvarez

Although McGregor is wanting to see Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya box, at De La Hoya’s age, he likely will never box again, especially against Alvarez.

Conor McGregor becomes part-owner of BKFC

Conor McGregor is now a part-owner of BKFC, it was revealed during the KnuckleMania 4 broadcast.

McGregor has been in attendance for some BKFC events in the past and according to Dave Feldman, the Irishman will have a lot of say in the company.

“We wouldn’t have gotten Conor McGregor involved to be a silent owner,” Feldman said on Sirius XM’s “MMA Today.” “Like, we don’t just want him to be a partner and not say anything and not do anything and not help move the needle. We got him involved to really help move the needle for us, to do different introductions, come up with some good ideas.

Conor McGregor has a lot to say as part of BKFC deal we're gonna get a lot of usage out of him

“He built himself into superstardom, so hopefully he can help some other fighters do that, as well. He’s a minority owner, but he has a lot of say in this company. He’s going to be part of the board. So we’re going to get a lot of usage out of Conor McGregor. And so far, so good. You know, very, very enthusiastic. I just hope things keep moving that way.”

Although McGregor is a part-owner of BKFC, he won’t be fighting for the promotion. The Irishman is still under contract with the UFC, as he will return to the Octagon on June 29 against Michael Chandler.

Georges St-Pierre reveals Dana White nixed him fighting Oscar De La Hoya he hates him

Former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre, reveals he nearly boxed Oscar De La Hoya a few years ago.

St-Pierre last competed in 2017 after he became the middleweight champion with a submission win over Michael Bisping. Due to health reasons, he retired, but there were talks of him coming out of retirement to face Khabib Nurmagomedov but that didn’t happen.

Georges St Pierre

Along with that, Georges St-Pierre says he had agreed to box Oscar De La Hoya but UFC CEO Dana White shut the fight down.

“It did not happen because, Dana White told me, Dana White hates Oscar De La Hoya. My contract, after you retire, you still have a few years, depending on the contract, my contract the way it was made, I still had ties with the UFC. I still had tied with UFC, when I asked Dana for permission he was like ‘F that guy’. That’s why, and then he called me after, he said he wanted me to fight Khabib, but Khabib already retired and I already retired,” St-Pierre said on the Pound 4 Pound podcast.

It is interesting that St-Pierre was even in talks to box Oscar De La Hoya as the Canadian has no experience with boxing. But, had the fight happen, it would have been a highly-anticipated bout and one many fans would have been excited for.

Georges St-Pierre claims Dana White originally thought Oscar De La Hoya would destroy him

This isn’t the first time Georges St-Pierre talked about a potential matchup with Oscar De La Hoya.

However, back in 2021, St-Pierre says originally White shut it down because he thought he would get destroyed by the boxer.

Dana White confirms plans to announce UFC 300 main event during UFC 298 press conference

“At first he says to me that the reason why he did not want it is because he thought that Oscar would basically destroy me in a boxing match. And I had some good arguments — I told him that I believe Oscar has more mileage than I do, he’s no longer in his prime, I stayed busy the whole time, I’m still in great shape, I’m going to be very well prepared and I’m taking this fight very seriously.”

“If I do it, because it’s my name — my image is attached to it — I will do it 100 percent. And I told Dana, I said, ‘If there’s one MMA fighter that go to boxing and look good in this situation, it would be me,’” St-Pierre said to The MMA Hour back in 2021.

Ultimately, St-Pierre is now fine in retirement and it looks like he won’t fight again.

Oscar De La Hoya challenges UFC CEO Dana White to fight in a potential co-main event with Garcia vs O’Malley

Oscar De La Hoya

If Ryan Garcia gets to fight Sean O’Malley inside the Octagon, Oscar De La Hoya hopes to snag a spot on the card against Dana White.

During Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Garcia called out the reigning UFC bantamweight champion, claiming that he would hand ‘Sugar’ an ass-whooping inside the Octagon if given the opportunity. Soon after, De La Hoya — Garcia’s promoter — stepped into the studio and angled for an opportunity to fight the UFC CEO in some kind of a potential boxing vs. MMA supercard.

“I would actually entertain that because Ryan can fight in the main event and maybe I can [fight] Dana in the co-main” De La Hoya said when speaking about Garcia’s challenge to O’Malley.

The feud between Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya dates back to 2017 when the UFC boss was in the middle of co-promoting Conor McGregor’s clash with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. De La Hoya said the bout was “disrespecting the sport of boxing,” which clearly didn’t sit well with White. In 2021, White called De La Hoya a “crackhead” on X (then Twitter) and accused him of using COVID as an excuse to bow out of a boxing match with MMA legend Vitor Belfort.

Since then, De La Hoya has extended an olive branch to White, hoping that they could eventually squash their long-standing rivalry. Asked about his relationship with the UFC CEO, ‘The Golden Boy’ told Helwani:

“We’re cool. It’s all good. Well, I don’t know if we’re cool. I haven’t talked to the guy. I’m good, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go at it.”

Dana White echoed the same “we’re cool” sentiment in 2022 but made it clear that the two would never be friends again.

“I feel like De La Hoya’s apology was sincere, but there’s no way that he and I can ever be friends again,” White said during a fan Q&A with GQ Sports. “He and I were actually friends. I used to go to his fights. I used to watch his fights. I used to promote his fights. That guy did way too much damage for us to ever be friends again. I appreciate his apology. I get it. We’re cool, but we’re never going to be that cool” (h/t Bleacher Report).
