If the UFC won’t book Paddy Pimblett vs. Logan Paul, then Chael Sonnen will.

Recently, Paul has been ramping up his efforts to try and get a fight in the UFC. He’s stated that he’d like to fight against rising lightweight star Paddy Pimblett. Pimblett has since responded that he’d be interested in the bout, but all roads go through UFC President Dana White first.

Of course, White has been reluctant to make such crossover fights since booking Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather in 2017. However, if the UFC won’t book the bout, Chael Sonnen says he will for Submission Underground.

Sonnen took to his podcast to dive into the subject and said he’s willing to make the fight happen in the grappling world if the pair are serious.

“They can have this little fun with Paddy,” Sonnen said. “See what you guys think. It’s never going to happen. It’s never going to happen within the UFC specifically.

“I’ll make the match right now. I’ll just share with you, I’ll make the match right now. If these guys truly want to do this and they’re truly confident and you truly believe that your guy is going to win — and I’m not suggesting for you that Logan is going to go out there and beat Paddy.

“Maybe Paddy does submit him and maybe he does do it quite easily. But maybe not.”

Pimblett is currently undefeated in the UFC at 2-0. Both of his victories have come by way of a first-round finish. Prior to joining the UFC, Pimblett had already established himself as a top-named prospect to keep tabs on and certainly hasn’t disappointed since being called up to the UFC.

As for Paul, he has dabbled in amateur boxing against opponents such as fellow YouTube star KSI and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Paul, who has a wrestling background, has been adamant about trying MMA. It will be interesting to see if the UFC ultimately gives in.

What do you think about a potential grappling match between Paul and Pimblett hosted by Chael Sonnen? Who are you picking? Sound off in the comments!

Hardy Explains What’s Blocking UFC’s Return To Liverpool

Former UFC welterweight Dan Hardy says the UFC is unable to return to Liverpool as the Arena no longer hosts combat sports.

Liverpool has previously held a UFC event headlined by its hometown star Darren Till who took on Stephen Thompson in the main event back in May 2018. That event took place in Liverpool Arena formerly known as the Echo Arena.

The Arena itself has since been renamed the M&S Bank Arena for sponsorship reasons back in 2019.

Hardy believes that the change in naming rights is what’s blocking the UFC from returning to Liverpool. He explained in an interview with The MMA Hour the reasons behind it.

“This is the reason why the UFC aren’t going back to Liverpool, is because they’ve got a different sponsor at the arena. And the sponsor won’t allow combat sports. Yeah, the Echo is no longer the Echo. I think it’s the M&S Arena, Marks & Spencer. It’s a different brand, and they won’t allow combat sports. So, that’s what’s putting the block on Paddy and Molly coming back to Liverpool. Very, Very sad. Really disappointing, and very short-sighted of that brand… It’d be incredible.”

It appears with the brand sponsoring, the Arena is against entertaining combat sports in any capacity.

However, the M&S Bank Arena has previously held boxing events under the new sponsor. The Arena hosted a combat sports event as recently as last Friday when a Probellum boxing event saw Paul Butler take on Jonas Sultan for the interim WBO bantamweight title at the Arena.

This could mean that the M&S Bank Arena is against hosting MMA specifically, which would only infuriate both Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann who have been vocal about their ambitions to headline events in the city.

Should the UFC return to Liverpool, one of the pair could headline the card in the main event as well as a possible return for fan-favorite Till. There have been claims that the Arena could be too small to host a UFC event currently due to the popularity of the sport in the UK.

The M&S Bank Arena has almost half the capacity of the O2 Arena which typically hosts UFC London. Rumors have spread surrounding Anfield Stadium hosting a UFC event in its place yet an event there would also involve complications.

Would you like to see UFC return to Liverpool? Or should the UFC stick to London?

Paddy Pimblett Cautioned Over Fight With “Legitimate Tough Guy” Logan Paul

Rising UFC lightweight prospect Paddy Pimblett has been issued a warning that he could find difficulty submitting social media star Logan Paul if they were to square off in the UFC octagon.

After just two fights in the UFC, Pimblett has quickly become one of the fastest-growing stars under the promotional banner. The Scouser is coming off an impressive first-round submission victory over Rodrigo Vargas at UFC London where ‘The Baddy’ was met with thunderous support.

‘The Baddy’s’ newfound fame has brought with it a global spotlight, and one man who’s had his eye on Pimblett is a former opponent of Floyd Mayweather, Logan Paul. The social media personality and podcaster has famously tried his hand at boxing but now seems open to a switch to MMA.

“I’d like a win in some sort of a fighting, combat sport,” Paul said Via ‘The MMA Hour‘. “I think I’d be good at it, too. But then again, bro I’m like okay, do I fucking go and get my head kicked in or wrestle and have so much more fun.”

“But I found out who I’d like to fight if I did a UFC match, Paddy the Baddy.”

Chael Sonnen Warns Paddy Pimblett

Although most would assume that Paddy Pimblett, a former Cage Warriors champion, and BJJ black belt would have no issue submitting or even beating Paul, not Chael Sonnen. ‘The American Gangster’  believes that Pimblett, whose wins are made up of 50% submissions, would struggle to submit Paul

“Logan is meaningfully bigger, his credentials in wrestling are very clear, says that he has done jiu-jitsu, but he’s got this great size advantage, the Paul brothers are legitimately tough guys,” Sonnen said via his YouTube.

“He was excited and happy when he got in there. He was excited and happy when it was going on, he was excited and happy when he woke up. Paddy has said he could submit Paul in an MMA contest but it is very hard to submit someone when they are punching you and dropping elbows at you.”

“They can have this fun and go back and forth with Paddy but it will never happen within the UFC, but I will make the match right now. I’m not suggesting that Logan goes out there and beats Paddy, maybe he does submit him but size does matter.”

Is Chael Sonnen right, would Paddy Pimblett struggle with Logan Paul?

With the UFC teasing a July 23. return to the United Kingdom for another Fight Night billed card, Paddy Pimblett has teased a summer Octagon return in a bid to land his third consecutive victory under the promotion’s banner – and is set to embark on a massive weight-loss program ahead of a lightweight outing.

Paddy Pimblett, a former Cage Warriors featherweight champion, made his long-awaited UFC debut back in September of last year as part of a massive UK contingent at UFC Vegas 36, stopping Luigi Vendramini with a late first round rallying knockout win.

In March of this year, Pimblett featured on the main card of UFC Fight Night London – stopping Mexico City native, Kazula Vargas with another rallying first round win – this time stopping the challenger with a first round rear-naked choke triumph.

In his time away from the Octagon, Pimblett has been linked with a comeback opposite the undefeated, Ilia Topuria – with the duo involved in a pre-UFC London scuffle at the fighter’s hotel during fight week back in March.

Over the course of last week, reports detailed how the promotion was currently targeting a summer return to the UK – with a July 23. UFC Fight Night card in the works. And further credence was given to those reports, with the promotion official confirming this Thursday afternoon their return to the country’s capital this summer

Speaking of his potential return this summer, Pimblett hinted at a comeback to the Octagon during a recent interview with The Schmo — as well as commenting on his drastic post-fight weight gain.

“Yeah, that’s more than likely,” Paddy Pimblett said of a return to the UFC. “That’s half the reason I’m on a diet now. I’d rather be fat and happy than ripped. These people who are ripped all year round are not happy. I don’t care what they say. This six-pack is sound, I look great but I’d rather be fat and happy.” (Transcribed by Daily Mirror)

Paddy Pimblett has responded to Logan Paul after the YouTube personality said that he would like to fight ‘The Baddy’ if he ever made the switch to MMA.

Paddy Pimblett is coming off the back of his submission victory over Kazula Vargas at UFC London, when the promotion returned to the country for the first time since pre-pandemic. Now it appears Pimblett believes he would to the same to Paul as he did Vargas.

Paddy Pimblett Open To Logan Paul Talks

After speaking to The Schmo, Pimblett was not surprised to hear the call that had been made by Paul.

“He knows who the boy is, doesn’t he?”

“He knows who will put bums on seats, lad. I can’t see him mentioning anyone else. “I know he’s a lot bigger than me but I don’t think it really matters, to be honest. I think I’d submit him quite easily and quite quickly but you never know, anything can happen in a fight. If Logan Paul ever does want the fight, lad, I’m open to hearing what numbers he’s coming at us with.” (Transcribed by The Mirror)

Paul’s most recent outing within combat sports was just shy of a year ago when he took on Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition boxing bout. The YouTube sensation also made an appearance at WrestleMania and now appears to be considering making the transition over to Mixed Martial Arts.

Pimblett has amassed a global following since joining the UFC and his performances against Luigi Vendramini and Kazula Vargas have helped that. Although Logan Paul is calling for a potential fight with Pimblett, it seems very likely that fans would prefer to see ‘The Baddy’ back in action at the rumoured UFC card taking place in the UK on July 23rd.

Logan Paul wants a UFC fight against Paddy Pimblett, and Pimblett is more than willing to oblige.

Paul recently called out Pimblett during an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. He also pressed UFC President Dana White for a UFC fight during a recent podcast episode, and White didn’t seem dismissive of the idea.

Paul is planning a return to the boxing ring later this year, after competing against Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather last summer in an exhibition fight. Pimblett is also planning a return to the UFC after earning a first-round finish over Kazula Vargas at UFC London earlier this year.

During a recent interview with The Schmo, Pimblett addressed Paul’s recent callout.

“He knows who the boy is, doesn’t he? He knows who will put bums on seats, lad,” Pimblett said. “I can’t see him mentioning anyone else. I know he’s a lot bigger than me like. … I don’t think it really matters, to be honest. I think I’d submit him quite easily and quite quickly but you never know, anything can happen in a fight. If Logan Paul ever does want the fight, lad, I’m open to hearing what numbers he’s coming at us with (laughs).” (h/t MMA Mania)

Pimblett signed with the UFC last year following a decorated run in Cage Warriors. He won his UFC debut against Luigi Vendramini last September before submitting Vargas.

Paul seems intent on a UFC fight against Pimblett, although it’s unclear if the UFC will entertain the idea of letting him see it through. Nevertheless, Pimblett seems to not mind the idea and feels it wouldn’t be much of a challenge.
