Ex-UFC fighter Paige VanZant has been talking about her multi-million-dollar deal with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.

VanZant decided to rest free agency following the completion of her latest UFC contract. BKFC emerged as a contender for the signature of ‘PVZ’ and managed to complete the couple last week. In an interview with MMA Fighting VanZant revealed she was initially surprised to find BKFC was a player in the battle to sign her, she said.

“I had no idea they’d be such a big player in the game. Once I heard, talking with my husband, I was like I think I want to sign with them. We were still in that negotiation process, I really hadn’t heard their final offer. It was more than just what I feel like they were offering me financially.

“It was the opportunity I was excited about. I’ve been a fan of their sport and it’s something that I’m really going to be able to show off my striking. If you look at my MMA career, my biggest downfall has been my jiu-jitsu and my striking has been my passion. I’m so excited to show that off.”

VanZant’s manager Malki Kawa proceeded to discuss the finances of the deal revealing his fighter is tied to BKFC for four fights and will earn at least a couple of million during that stint, he said.

“It’s a multi-million dollar deal and we’re not even talking the sprinkles and the cherries that go on top of the sundae. Dave (Feldman) made a very strong offer. It’s a four-fight deal so it’s not anything crazy. It’s a four-fight deal and Dave and I sat and planned out these four fights on how they should look, when they should be, over the course of the next 16 to 18 months and I think that if everything goes the way that we expect it to go between the three of us, Paige, Dave and myself, multi-million will turn even bigger than that.”

There were a number of reasons why Paige VanZant decided to make the transition to bare knuckle boxing.

It was announced on Wednesday that the former UFC women’s flyweight had signed a multi-fight deal with Bare Knuckle FC.

Many were surprised with the move, especially given the brutal nature of bare knuckle fighting which tends to lead to plenty of cuts and facial damage.

But that is one of the very reasons why she decided to go ahead with the move among other factors.

“It was an amazing contract, an amazing opportunity,” VanZant told ESPN. “I also feel like it’s not a move backwards for me. It’s a lateral move to a new opportunity, a new challenge, a brand new sport. I really have sparked a brand new passion for it and especially for striking in general.

“And, on top of that, I feel like I still have this stigma in MMA that I’m just a pretty face, and what a way to prove to people that’s not the way I see myself at all. This is a sport where people probably have the highest rate of getting cut open and having long-term scars is definitely something that I’m not even worried about for me. It’s just the love of competition and I’m really excited to go out there and show off in such an amazing sport.”

VanZant Spoke To A Number Of Promotions

It was notably revealed that VanZant declined an offer with Bellator to sign with BKFC.

However, she was speaking to a number of other promotions ever since she completed the final fight of her UFC deal last month.

In the end, BKFC was what made the most sense for her.

“I talked to a lot of different promotions,” VanZant added. “I actually had no idea that I would have so many come with such big offers. I knew I would get the big players in the game, like Bellator or ONE, but I actually had five or six huge, solid promotions that I had to decide on.

“For me, at this moment in my career, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship was the one that fit best.”

Paige VanZant’s next chapter in combat sports will be in bare knuckle action.

The former UFC women’s flyweight revealed on social media on Wednesday that she had signed a new deal with a promotion.

“Contract Signed. About to change the game. Fight news coming soon. #bigbusiness ??

And as per ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, that promotion is Bare Knuckle FC.

“Paige VanZant has signed a new multi-fight, exclusive contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, according to sources.”

Bellator was also in the running for VanZant’s signature, especially as her husband Austin Vanderford is a contracted fighter with the Santa Monica-based promotion.

However, Bellator president Scott Coker revealed to MMA Fighting that she declined their offer.

VanZant became a free agent after fulfilling the last fight of her UFC contract at UFC 251 last month. She suffered a first-round submission defeat to Amanda Ribas.

After the fight, UFC president Dana White revealed VanZant should definitely test free agency based on her performance — comments that disappointed the 26-year-old.

“I feel like I thought we were closer friends and he could text me or call me,” VanZant said. “Something to have a little bit of compassion, something to communicate with me personally but maybe he will. We just don’t know. I’m sure it’s an uncomfortable situation.

“I’ve never spoken negatively about the UFC. I’m not bitter about where I am in my career, bitter about the position that the UFC has put me in whatsoever. I just felt like for myself, I wanted to test free agency and that’s not because I dislike the UFC or dislike Dana or anybody.

“Dana’s comments, what I’m hearing you say, he wants me to test free agency then hopefully they just let me go then. If that’s how they feel, then they’ll just let me be free.”

VanZant got her wish in the end as she will start a new chapter with Bare Knuckle FC.

Paige VanZant is currently in negotiations with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship after her contract with the UFC expired. ‘PVZ’ fought for what appears to be the last time in MMA’s premier promotion at UFC 251 suffering a quick submission loss against rising star, Amanda Ribas.

Post-fight UFC boss Dana White advised Paige VanZant to explore free agency after suffering such a dominant loss after complaining about her pay consistently in recent months. It now appears VanZant is taking White’s advice and fielding offers from various promotions including BKFC. Mike Russell was first to break news of ongoing talks between VanZant and BKFC

“Hearing Paige VanZant is close to finalizing a deal with @bareknucklefc,” Russell wrote on social media.

Eric Kowal who works with BKFC as well as running MyMMANews.com confirmed talks are ongoing but are nowhere close to being finalized, he said.

“There are talks, nothing close yet,” Kowal wrote, clarifying on the talks between VanZant and BKFC.

“I can confirm there are talks,” he added. “I work for the company. Just asked [BKFC President] David [Feldman] about your Tweet cause he asked me 2 weeks ago for thoughts on possibly signing her. Today he said there are talks but nothing close. Like you said ‘we’ll see’ but this is latest.”

VanZant has previously said she wants to fight again in 2020 and will be hoping to get a deal done quick with another promotion to avoid an unnecessary lay off.

“Before the fight, I had said I might need to have one more arm surgery to feel 100 percent, but even through this, I do feel 100 percent, and I’m hoping to sign a new fight promotion with somebody and fight this year if I can.”

“I want to fight as soon as possible,” VanZant said. “In my mind, I’m going to go ahead and delete that last fight and start over. I don’t know how long this negotiation stuff goes.”
