Strawweight fighter Paige VanZant received some much-needed ‘good news’ regarding her healing arm earlier this week.

VanZant, 25, has been staying busy in her time away from the Octagon. Just last week, she joined the M-1 Global team to do commentary duties in the United States. And let us not forget about the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition that VanZant recently posed for.

“12 Gauge” has been sidelined with her second broken arm in as many fights. Although the road to recovery from such an injury is a long and arduous process for a fighter, VanZant has just received some promising news.

“I got really good news yesterday. My arm actually is healing the way it’s supposed to, I’m not having those healing issues this time,” VanZant said earlier this week. “It’s totally healing. I should be able to start training in three weeks.”

“In three weeks, I should be able train again so that means punching and hitting things.”

If VanZant does indeed get the clearance to resume training in three weeks, that would put her on a possible timetable for return in the summer. The timing would be right in that she could return in time for two of the biggest cards of the year.

“I’m going to talk to my managers and it depends on how quickly I can start hitting things. I would hope June or July,” VanZant revealed. “Of course, we’re going to talk to the UFC, my management team and my coaches but in my mind July sounds right.”

“12 Gauge” would be a welcome addition to either card. Hopefully, VanZant will be able to get back to full strength in time for the summer.

Paige VanZant is obviously one of the UFC’s most attractive female athletes on its roster.

With that has come some opportunities that the 25-year-old couldn’t pass up. Some of those might have come at the displeasure of hardcore mixed martial arts (MMA) fans, but VanZant says she’s done worrying about that now. Speaking to Fansided, “12 Gauge” notes she has been pushing opportunites to the side because she wants to be recognized as a legitimate mixed martial artist.

Now, she’s confident she can do both on her own, and she doesn’t need approval from anyone:

“I’ve been pushing these opportunities to the side. I can only hide so much of my girliness. I’ve been turning down opportunities because I do want people to see me as a professional fighter,” VanZant said.

“I’m done with that. I’m going to 100 percent be myself. There is this new era of being strong and beautiful. The die-hard fight fans can complain that I’m doing things like Sports Illustrated but it’s who I am and I absolutely loved it.

“There is not a lot of loyalty. The true fans support me in any endeavor and they like me as a person. I don’t think there should be any question about my fight career at this point. I’ve broken my arm twice. Maybe I don’t look like a professional fighter but, hey, I was born this way. Call my mom and dad.”

Inside the cage, VanZant comes off a big second-round submission win over Rachael Ostovich at UFC Brooklyn. She snapped a two-fight losing streak that began in December of 2016. After suffering a fractured right arm, VanZant will have to wait a bit before stepping back into the Octagon.

UFC women’s flyweight competitor Paige VanZant is set to make her commentary debut on UFC Fight Pass.

VanZant, who turned 25 this week, will serve as color commentator for all upcoming M-1 Global events in the United States. She’ll be joined in the commentary booth by ex-Bellator play-by-play voice Sean Wheelock. VanZant had this to say about the opportunity (via MMA Junkie):

“I’m really excited for this opportunity to work as the color commentator for M-1 Global USA on UFC Fight Pass,” VanZant said. “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills on the other side of the microphone.”

Her first event as a commentator will take place at the Pipa Event Center at Quechan Casino Resort on the Arizona/California border in Winterhaven, California. The show is titled “Road to M-1: USA 2” and will stream on UFC Fight Pass.

VanZant hasn’t fought since her January submission victory over Rachael Ostovich at UFC on ESPN+ 1 in Brooklyn, New York. The victory was a hard-fought, come-from-behind win due to VanZant’s heart and toughness. She rebounded well after a down streak in prior years. VanZant remains one of the most popular UFC fighters due to her appearances on multiple mainstream TV shows.

She’s back on track in the Octagon, a welcome site because she’s dealt with serious injuries as of late. Now, she’s branching out into commentary and will therefore increase her scope of attention. VanZant is proving she’s a woman of many talents, and that seems to be increasing by the day.

“I feel like when you’re in Sports Illustrated, that means you made it, so it’s a really big deal,” VanZant said.

“I’m mostly excited for people to see this side of me, I think people do forget that yes, I’m a professional fighter, my hair is cornrowed all the time, I punch people in the face for a living, but you can look really cute, too.”

Now, “PVZ” joins Ronda Rousey as the only other UFC athlete to be featured in the magazine. The 24-year-old has not only competed at a high level in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition, but also took part in season 22 of ‘Dancing With The Stars’, making it all the way to the finals.

She also won the celebrity-themed version of the ‘Chopped’ cooking series in 2017. Last year, “PVZ” released her autobiorgraph ‘Rise: Surviving the Fight of My Life’.

She returned to fight this past January, defeating Rachael Ostovich by way of second-round submission.
