Felder: Fighting Is A Hard Job

Paul Felder has endured his fair share of wars and injuries.

The lightweight contender’s last outing was in February when he went to war with Dan Hooker for 25 minutes in their UFC Auckland headliner. In the end, it was Hooker who came away with the split decision victory.

A dejected and bruised Felder went on to hint at retirement in the post-fight interview as he cited being away from his daughter as one of the main factors behind his thinking.

Of course, Felder would perform a u-turn soon after as he stated he missed the fire from competing. As of now, there is no news on who Felder could fight next as he continues his commentating duties for the UFC.

But based on his latest Instagram post, it appears he may have performed another u-turn as it looks like he’s content with commentating for now. He notably included photos of his past injuries from the sport including one gruesome image of a part of his lung.

“I get asked a lot when I’m returning or if I’m officially retired. I miss the octagon and competing but these Pictures are how I come home to a 5 year old princess. It’s a hard job. This is why I love commentating. I get to talk about the toughest athletes on the planet. #bloodsport #tough #irishdragon”

Do you think Felder will fight again or is he done competing?

UFC lightweight contender Paul Felder isn’t going anywhere.

Following a back-and-forth war with Dan Hooker in their UFC Auckland headliner in February which resulted in a split decision loss, an emotional Felder hinted at retiring from the sport.

However, it is looking increasingly like a heat of the moment statement as over two months on, “The Irish Dragon” is itching to return to competition after the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end.

“After all of this, with what we’re going through, I cannot wait to fight again,” Felder said in an Instagram Live session with Jon Anik (via MMA Fighting).

Of course, Felder doesn’t have to compete. He currently has a steady gig as a commentator for the UFC which could blossom into bigger opportunities down the line given the reception to his work.

But as a fighter, he misses the fire that comes with competing inside the Octagon.

“Dude, I’m on this bike, I had my manager Brian Butler send me all of these photos,” Felder said. “I texted him last night. I said, ‘Man, I’m feeling a little depressed. I’m missing my job, I’m missing my guys, I’m missing commentary.’

“I’m sitting with [my daughter] and we’re having a great time. The family time is great, but I just, I just miss that fire. You don’t realize how important that is in your life, especially somebody like myself or anybody like myself who’s an athlete that’s been doing this for so long. Or even someone like you, (Jon), that’s been working, making this company become what it is: You are one of the faces of this company. And to just have it stripped away from us it’s like, ‘F*ck, man!’”

Like many, Felder is waiting for life to go back to normal, but he is also going to remain patient. And ultimately, when this is all over, he believes many will have an added appreciation for the world.

“F*ck, I can’t wait to get back to doing this,” Felder added. “But I’m also realistic. I’m not one of these people that’s like, ‘We need to just open everything up.’ I don’t want a second wave, I don’t want any of that stuff.

“When it does come, I can not wait to wait to just (look around). I will never take this for granted ever again. I think that’s something we’re all gonna learn with this craziness, if anything.”

What do you make of Felder’s comments?

New lightweight contender Renato Moicano has apologised for his bizarre behaviour at UFC Brasilia after submitting Damir Hadzovic inside one minute.

Brazilian Moicano fought in front of no crowd at Ginasio Nilson Nelson on Saturday night. After submitting his opponent Hadzovic in just 44 seconds, Moicano angrily stood up and confronted Hadzovic, confusing everyone watching at home.

Speaking post-fight, Moicano explained he was annoyed at the fight finishing so quickly and the fact no fans got to see his performance, he explained.

“No, I did wrong because I’m coming from two losses from tough guys, and I want to fight hard. I want to fight the best guys, and in the first takedown, I put him on the ground and submit him, I want more fight. I want to fight, I want to fight, but I did wrong. I’m sorry, Hadzovic. I’m wrong.

“You know it was very strange to enter in the cage and don’t see the crowd, especially the people from my city. I was looking forward to seeing the people cheer for me, but there is no problem. We have to fight in all circumstances, and I did good. I think I did good like a rear-naked choke in the first round against a tough guy. It was good for me.”

As well as saying sorry Moicano also took his chance to call out Paul Felder during his post-fight interview with middleweight legend Michael Bisping. ‘The Irish Dragon’ is coming off a loss and seemed like another move out of left-field. According to Moicano, the call-out is simply due to their respective rankings.

“I don’t know, because (it) just pop in my head. He’s the No. 7 (at 155), and I’m the No. 7 (at 145), and right now I’m fighting in the lightweight (division), so why not see who is the best? The lightweight or the featherweight?” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)
