Dan Hooker won’t get his desired matchup against Dustin Poirier, but he’ll get a top-ranked lightweight nonetheless. The UFC has officially announced that Hooker will meet No. 6-ranked Paul Felder at the UFC Auckland event in February. The show will go down from the Spark Arena in Auckland on February 23.

Felder is currently on a two-fight win streak, with decision victories over both James Vick and Edson Barboza. Now, “The Irish Dragon” continues his pursuit of UFC gold when he meets another fellow top-ten ranked lightweight in Hooker, who has looked solid as of late. Hooker is on a two-fight win streak of his own, which started with a devastating knockout win over James Vick in July. He followed that up with a great performance in Australia, handing Al Iaquinta a decision loss at UFC 243.

What do you think about the UFC matching up Felder vs. Hooker for February in New Zealand?

Charles Oliveira called out some big names following his latest victory.

Oliveira made it two knockout wins in a row in 2019 following his first-round finish of Jared Gordon on the main card of UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday night.

It took his winning streak to six with all of those victories coming by way of finish. Ranked No. 13 in the UFC lightweight rankings, “Do Bronx” now wants a higher-ranked opponent.

He called out Conor McGregor and Paul Felder in his post-fight interview and expanded further during the post-fight press conference:

“I came here to fight, and now, I’m calling out some names,” Oliveira said (via MMA Fighting). “My coach is going to see what’s best. I want to fight on the last card of the year. I didn’t [take] any punches. I’m 100 percent. It can be Conor McGregor, (or) it could be Paul Felder.”

McGregor, of course, is the biggest name in the division. Felder, meanwhile, is ranked No. 6 and is notably the last opponent to inflict defeat on Oliveira.

However, the Brazilian went a step further by stating that he’s a bad matchup for current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov:

“Everyone’s talking about Khabib,” Oliveira added. “I’m better than him standing up. If it goes to the ground, I’m not going to be afraid of him.”

What do you think of Oliveira’s callouts?

UFC lightweight contender Paul Felder believes the Irish fans are turning on Conor McGregor.

McGregor hasn’t competed since his submission defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 last year. Since then, the Irishman has been in the news for reasons unrelated to fighting and mostly having to do with trouble with the law.

And Felder — who is an Irish-American — believes all those issues are affecting McGregor’s fanbase back home. He also proceeded to challenge him to fight him next.

“You’re representing Ireland and you got all these Irish fans behind you but I think they’re turning on you,” Felder said in a TMZ interview (via BJ Penn). “If you want to fight somebody’s who’s got that Irish blood in him too who’s an American, why don’t you fight an Irish American? Let’s get the Irish American vs. the real Irishman and see who’s tougher. Our family came over here and bred in America. We’re a lot stronger and tougher. We got a little mixed blood going on here.

“So if you think you’ve got the chin and the toughness to beat somebody like me, let’s go. You think that left hand is dynamite, I guarantee you can’t put me down with it.”

In reality, it’s unlikely McGregor faces Felder for what is looking likely to be a return to the Octagon in January. Justin Gaethje and Donald Cerrone are more realistic options at this point.

Regardless, do you agree with Felder that McGregor’s Irish fans are turning on him?

While he previously called for a trilogy fight with Edson Barboza, Paul Felder is looking ahead to the opponents ranked above him.

Felder is coming off a controversial split decision win over Barboza at UFC 242 earlier this month. As a result, he is currently ranked No. 7 in the lightweight rankings. The goal is to win a title and so, “The Irish Dragon” is focused on potential fights that can help him climb the ladder.

His top choices? Justin Gaethje or Dustin Poirier:

“I would say Justin Gaethje or Dustin Poirier [are my ideal next opponents] – Dustin because he just fought for the belt,” Felder said on the latest episode of MMA Fighting’s Eurobash podcast. “If I can jump the line and skip ahead like that – I mean, sh*t. And he’s a great striker, a great boxer. That lends itself to the kind of fights that I’m used to being in and one that the fans want. Whatever happens, we’re probably getting a bonus. It would be one of those fights that goes back and forth. [It would come down to] who’s tougher and who can take the bigger shots, and those are the fights that turn me on.

“Justin is just a savage, man. Like I said, I don’t call this guy out because I have anything against him. You just saw what he did to one of my friends, ‘Cowboy.’ I would love to get in there and test myself, because I do feel that the guy is going to be fighting for a world title some day. These are the guys you have to beat. You have to beat the toughest guys out there, because if I can’t beat these guys, I’ll have no chance against Khabib – he’s able to out-wrestle everybody.”

Felder is also interested in bouts with Al Iaquinta and Conor McGregor. But given that Donald Cerrone and him are training partners, that fight is out of the question.

And when it comes to McGregor, Felder is not the kind to beg for it:

“Fight [Conor McGregor]? I wouldn’t mind it,” Felder added. “I like making money – plus he’s up there. He’s got numbers next to his name that I want to take. If you wanna talk about that fight, you know it’s going to be goddam striking battle with me, and Conor is obviously not going to be trying to take me down either.

But I’m also not one of those people that’s going to play his game and beg for something like that if I know that I’m not the guy that’s going to get it. I’m not going to go crazy trying to get it, but I would absolutely love to throw down with him.”
