On Monday morning, UFC fighter Joe Lauzon, who won a Performance of the Night bonus for his knockout of Diego Sanchez at UFC 200, took to social media to share an internal letter that the UFC sent the its’ fighters this morning regarding the reports of the UFC being sold to new owners for $4 billion.
Dear Athletes,
We are writing to personally advise you of a chance to UFC. Renowned entertainment, sports and fashion giant WWE | IMG has entered into agreement to acquire UFC. Silver Lake Partners, KKR, MSD Capital, L.P. and MSD Partners, L.P. will join WME | IMG as new strategic investors. The transaction is subject to customary conditions.
From the moment Zuffa, LLC purchased UFC over 15 years ago, you, the athletes, have always been the central focus of the promotion. That will not change. WME | IMG, who has been involved with UFC for many years, is focused on the continued global expansion of mixed martial arts and committed to further promotion you on the global stage.
Upon closing the deal, Lorenzo Fertitta will be stepping down as Chairman and CEO of the organization, however Lorenzo and Frank will retain a minority ownership interest in the business. UFC President Dana White will continue in his role and will also retain a minority ownership interest.
The organization’s leadership, a team of great executives hand-picked to help lead the business, will remain in place to carry on their work and continue to lead the team of dedicated employees who promote your careers as mixed martial arts athletes.
You remain a very important part of the highly driven, dedicated and motivated organization that will continue to deliver world-class experiences and opportunities for you as athletes and for the greatest fans in the world.

While next up for reigning UFC 145-pound champion Conor McGregor is his immediate 170-pound rematch in August with Nate Diaz, the first and only man to beat him in the UFC, following Jose Aldo’s interim UFC 145-pound title victory over Frankie Edgar at Saturday’s UFC 200 event, the early hype is already starting for a potential McGregor-Aldo 2 title unification bout.
As noted, immediately after Aldo defeated Edgar, he and McGregor shared a brief moment through the cage. For video footage and details on that, click here.
Additionally, one of the main photographs making the rounds coming out of Saturday’s historic UFC 200 event was a cool shot of an intense Conor McGregor focusing on the action as Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar competed to determine who will get the next shot at McGregor when he returns to the 145-pound division to make the first defense of the title he won by knocking out Aldo in just 13 seconds.
UFC themselves got in on the action, posting the photo on their official Twitter page and other social media outlets/websites. On the Twitter photo below, which is the main photo making the rounds, UFC included the caption,“If this photo doesn’t give you chills ….”
According to UFC President Dana White, he expects McGregor will absolutely return to the 145-pound division after his fight with Diaz, and that knowing how quick McGregor likes to turn around after he fights, it probably won’t be long before we get to unify the two 145-poiund titles.
Conor McGregor’s next fight, the aforementioned 170-pound rematch with Diaz, is scheduled to take place as the main event of UFC 202, which goes down on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title contender Cat Zingano spent over a year on the sidelines, and her body showed the results.
Zingano, who meets TUF 20 Champion Julianna Pena at the landmark UFC 200 event in July, recently took to social media to show off the transformation her body underwent leading up to what is expected to be UFC’s biggest event in company history.

Fighters be like…. I was 175 in January & 145 today. Reality vs expectation. There is a much bigger fight than what you see go on in that cage. UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor continues to bring in specialists to help him prepare for his upcoming 170-pound immediate rematch against the first and only man to ever beat him inside the UFC’s Octagon, Nate Diaz, as he recently brought in a decorated professional boxer to his camp.
McGregor, who mocked Diaz repeatedly during the build-up to their first fight at UFC 196 in March for putting so much stock in the fact that he trains with world class boxers like Andre Ward and world class kick boxers like Joe Schilling, can be seen in photos with All Ireland boxing champion Conor Wallace, who he recently sparred with, just after photos surfaced earlier this week that showed McGregor working with Marcelo Garcia black belt Dillon Danis on his jiu-jitsu earlier this week.
Wallace is a respected Irish boxer, as he is a six-time All Ireland boxing champion, and his physicality is similar to that of Diaz, as he is tall and lanky and fights from a southpaw stance.
You can check out the photos of McGregor and Conor Wallace courtesy of Wallace’s official Twitter page below.
