Last night (June 4, 2016) huge news dropped during that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was supposedly close to a UFC return, and that rumor was indeed confirmed during UFC 199 from California when a scintillating UFC 200 promo video played with Lesnar surprisingly showing up at the very end.

Speculation understandably began ramping up as to just whom Lesnar would meet in the co-main event of July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 spectacular from Las Vegas’ all-new T-Mobile Arena, and indeed a host of interesting names await the polarizing behemoth who was last seen in the UFC way back in late 2011.

There’s of course his long-rumored bout with all-time legend Fedor Emelianenko, a feud that fell apart after UFC President Dana White couldn’t agree to terms with “The Last Emperor’s” former management M-1 Global.

But Emelianenko recently returned to the cage in Japan’s Rizin FC, and he’s also slated to face UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado at a Fight Nights event from St. Petersburg, Russia on June 17. Although he’s repeatedly teased making his way to the UFC lately, a deal with Emelianenko to face Lesnar seems highly unlikely at this point. Nevertheless, it would be beyond huge.

Other opponents include Mark Hunt, who was reportedly told to “be ready” for UFC 200 by White, and Shane Carwin, the former contender who famously took Lesnar to the limit at July 2010’s UFC 117 before ultimately succumbing to a second-round submission. Carwin also recently teased a potential return and said he would take the fight on social media last night.

Rounding out the top candidates, longtime heavyweight mainstay Josh Barnett also called out for the bout in a pairing that seems much more unlikely.

Rising bantamweight sensation Cody Garbrandt shocked the MMA world when he knocked out touted prospect Thomas Almeida in the main event of last night’s (Sun., May 29, 2016) UFC Fight Night 88 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although he was unranked coming into the bout, Garbrandt capitalized on his bold predictions and statement that boxing beats Muay Thai everyday, stalking Almeida down effortlessly to rock him with a varied offense of power punches.

The win will certainly vaunt Garbrandt into the Top 10 where he wants to be, but there could be a strong argument made that he already deserves a 135-pound title shot after knocking out the No. 7-ranked competitor so easily. Taking precious little damage last night, it’s highly understandable that “No Love” wants to return at September’s UFC 203 from his home state of Ohio.

Logic may state that he’s in for a high-profile bout with someone like Bryan Caraway (who wants his own title shot after beating previous No. 4 Aljamain Sterling last night).

While that may transpire with the next rightful title shot perhaps going to the winner of July’s match-up between TJ Dillashaw and Raphael Assuncao, do you believe that Garbrandt is already ready to fight for a title?

Last night (Tues., May 10, 2016), the somewhat shocking news arose that the UFC was apparently in ‘advanced talks’ for a potential sale to a group of four possible buyers in a report from ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

UFC President Dana White quickly denied the report and blasted Rovell to The Las Vegas Review-Journal, but Rovell noted that a company that is not up for sale most likely would not enlist the help of financial giant Goldman-Sachs.

White then appeared on ESPN’s The Dan Patrick Show this morning to address the report, affirming that while the UFC is not up for sale as of now, they are always fielding offers, and if they were to indeed sale the promotion, that would probably be when he stepped down.

It’s a lot to digest, and foreseeing what the UFC would become under new ownership without White is a tough proposition as of now. With that said, many have been griping about how the UFC has been doing business in recent years, mainly in the areas of fighter pay and the Reebok sponsorship deal.

What do you think? Would a UFC sale to new ownership be good or bad for the sport of MMA?

The UFC will make its waited Netherlands debut with UFC Fight Night 87 this weekend (Sun., May 8, 2016) from the Ahoy Rotterdam in Rotterdam, and obviously no other man could headline the card than Dutch kickboxing phenom Alistair Overeem, who faces Andrei Arlovski in the card’s headliner.

After a rocky start to his UFC career, the former Strikeforce, DREAM, and K-1 World Grand Prix champion has finally found his groove by winning three straight bouts in the Octagon including a knockout of former champion Junior dos Santos in his most recent bout. The streak has him on the verge of title contention in the tumultuous and volatile UFC heavyweight arena, and a win over a former champion like Arlovski could certainly get him a fight with the winner of May 14’s Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic title bout at UFC 198.

But former champion Cain Velasquez is always close to a title shot — deservedly or not — and he’ll take on No. 7 Travis Browne at July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 from Las Vegas. A win there could also see Velasquez thrust back into the title picture if healthy.

“The Reem” has looked rejuvenated training at Albuquerque’s Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA (oddly enough where his opponent trains as well), and a four-fight win streak over top competition is never easy to obtain in the UFC heavyweight division. With that said, do you believe Overeem should earn his long-awaited title shot if he defeats Arlovski?

Earlier today (Wed., April 27, 2016) the UFC confirmed that interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones would take on arch rival champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 during a MMA-themed segment of “Good Morning America.”

The booking of the impromptu main event, which was a necessity when Conor McGregor was unceremoniously removed from his rematch with Nate Diaz after refusing to make the promotional rounds, hardly came as a surprise, as it was leaked when a photo of the main event poster surfaced online.

While it’s no doubt a serviceable, if not spectacular, headlining bout for the stacked spectacular from Las Vegas’ all-new T-Mobile Arena, yet the awaited rematch, which has been predicted to take place ever since Jones outlasted Cormier by decision at UFC 182 last year, is far from guaranteed to happen.

After all, Jones just returned to defeat Ovince Saint Preux in a somewhat lackluster return bout at last weekend’s (April 23, 2016) UFC 197 following a yearlong battle with legal trouble, which he’s far from out of the woods with after violating his probation. That obviously adds a ton of uncertainty, and Cormier’s leg injury that forced him out of UFC 197 is another concern that has apparently been alleviated (at least for now).

Add that to the potential six-month medical suspension that Jones received for an injured foot in his win over Saint Preux (which the UFC is clearly banking he’ll be healed from by July), and you have a bout wrought with uncertainty with two-and-a-half months still ticking down.

What do you think? Will Jones vs. Cormier actually happen at UFC 200?

With many calling it a day on his decorated MMA career after a his first-ever TKO loss to Alistair Overeem in December, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos silenced his critics in a big way when he dominated the streaking “Big” Ben Rothwell in the main event of yesterday’s (Sun., April 10, 2016) UFC Fight Night 86 from the Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia.

Dos Santos righted the ship in a big way, out-striking Rothwell is every facet of the bout, which was contested entirely on the feet. “Cigano’s” speed, footwork, elusiveness, body work, and accuracy were all on full display, and perhaps most encouraging for his fans was the clear fact that he returned to his confident, boxing-centered style of old after making a recent camp change to Florida’s American Top Team (ATT).

So “JDS” is right back in the title mix in the volatile and shallow heavyweight title picture, and with most of the top fighters booked in big fights right now, dos Santos should have a huge fight coming up once the next wave of bouts is complete. He’s already fought (and beat) both participants of the upcoming main event between champion Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic, so a rematch with either of those top competitors would already have a built-in backstory.

He’s also beat and lost to former champ Cain Velasquez, who will take on Travis Browne at UFC 200, and his latest loss was to Overeem, who meets Andrei Arlovski in the main event of May 8’s UFC Rotterdam. So while the schedule might not feature many fresh faces for “Cigano,” the intriguing match-ups are there for him nonetheless.

Whom do you think he should face in his next bout?
