Guiding newly minted undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makahchev at the Abu Dhabi, UAE event, Khabib watched on as his teammate struck gold with a second round arm-triangle submission win over Charles Oliveira at the Etihad Arena.

During the post-fight celebrations afterwards, however, Khabib’s cousin, Abubakar found himself involved in a physical altercation with the above-mentioned, Chimaev, with the latter landing a series of strikes with a closed fist on Nurmagomedov.

In the hours following the pay-per-view event, Khabib, Makhachev, as well as Chimaev and others gathered at a celebratory meal following the team’s title success, with the latter posing for a picture with Abubakar – with Chechen warlord and sanctioned leader, Ramzan Kadyrov mediating between the duo in a bid to end their spat

“What happened yesterday does not show us well,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said. “Neither me, nor Khamzat, nor Abubakar. To tell the truth, we are tired of this nonsense! Here we are gathered together as brothers. We talked to each other, and we apologized to each other, hugged. And Inshallah, I hope that in the future that we will only gather and fight for good reasons.”

“Today Islam won the belt, he’s the first,” Khabib continued. “The next one is very close, and it’s gonna be Khamzat. And Khamzat let us all get together. So when Khamzat wins the belt, it’s not for showing off, not for this conversation, that we are going to celebrate. We will celebrate for our new champion, Inshallah.”

Chechen warlord and sanctioned leader, Ramzan Kadyrov has played his part in squashing a beef between close friend and personal guest, UFC welterweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev, and Abubakar Nurmagomedov – after footage emerged showing the duo engaging in a physical altercation at UFC 280 last night.

Chimaev, a close personal friend of Kadyrov, who has been sanctioned by the United States government, attended UFC 280 last night at the Eithad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE – seating alongside Kadyrov’s teenage son, Ali Kadyrov.

In the night’s main event, Russian sambo expert, Islam Makhachev scooped the undisputed lightweight championship – defeating Charles Oliveira in a one-sided second round arm-triangle submission win.

However, during Makhachev’s post-fight Octagon interview, Chimaev and Nurmagomedov – the cousin of former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, were corralled by UFC officials and security after they threw several punches at each other

Today, however, it appears the beef between Chimaev and Abubakar Nurmagomedov has been put on the backburner, with the former attended a dinner alongside Khabib and Makhachev.

“A small misunderstanding that took place personally between me and Khlamzat (sic) (Khamzat Chimaev),” Abubakar Nurmagomedov posted on Instagram. “After that, we met with him in the Brotherhood circle, where we were gathered by the elders. As I said in an interview before my fight, Khlamzat is my brother in Faith and I always wish him health and success. I ask you, brothers, not to invent any kind of gossip and I hope our meeting will be beneficial between our brotherly people.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Ramzan Kadyrov holds peace talks with Khamzat Chimaev and Abubakar Nurmagomedov

A protagonist in peace talks between Khamzat Chimaev and Nurmagomedov comes in the form of the above-mentioned Chechnya leader, Kadyrov, who posted a screenshot on Instagram of himself engaging in a video call with both Chimaev and Nurmagomedov – accompanied by a caption detailing how he managed to settle the pair’s issues.

Chimaev most recently competed against Kevin Holland at UFC 279 back in September in Las Vegas, Nevada – securing a first round D’Arce choke win in an impromptu fight. The Chechen-born fighter was also involved in a pre-fight scuffle with Holland on Thursday during fight week, with the duo corralled by security – forcing a pre-fight press conference to be cancelled.

Pictures have emerged from undefeated UFC welterweight challenger, Khamzat Chimaev’s latest visit to his native Chechnya this month – with the AllStars MMA staple engaging in sparring sessions with the children of the region’s leader and warlord, Ramzan Kadyrov.

Chimaev, the current #3 ranked welterweight contender, co-headlined UFC 279 last month against Riverside striker, Kevin Holland in an impromptu catchweight fight – scoring a one-sided first round D’Arce choke win.

The victory came as Chimaev’s twelfth professionally amid an undefeated run, however, the Chechen-born finisher was initially scheduled to headline that pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Booked to fight welterweight veteran, Nate Diaz in the event’s curtain closer, Chimaev missed weight for the matchup by a staggering seven and a half pounds, forcing the cancellation of his fight against the Stockton native – who would instead fight and finish former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson atop the card.

In the time since, Chimaev has received mass criticism for his weight miss, however, the aforenoted, Kadyrov, a personal friend of the former defended Chimaev’s weight mishap.

At the end of last month, reports detailed how Khamzat Chimaev had seen his passport confiscated by Russian authorities after arriving in St. Petersburg – ahead of a trip to Chechnya and then a visit to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, amid the countries decision to recruit soldiers for the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Denying those reports, Chimaev, who is targeting a potential end-of-year return at the middleweight limit, was pictured training and sparring with Kadyrov’s children at the warlord’s Grozny home and gym.

“Here is UFC star Khamzat Chimaev playing the tole of punching bag for (Ramzan) Kadyrov’s teenage sons in Grozny today,” Bloody Elbow, Karim Zidan tweeted.

A close friend of Chimaev, Kadyrov has hosted the unbeaten UFC welterweight for parties and other functions in the Chechnya region, and following Chimaev’s battle with COVID-19 in 2020, admitted that he more or less strong-armed the latter against a decision to retire from the sport.
Kadyrov also purchased Chimaev a Mercedes Benz SUV following a victory in the Octagon that same year, which Chimaev ultimately crashed.

Before his win over Holland in September, the Andreas Michael product managed to defeat one-time title challenger, Gilbert Burns in a close unanimous decision win in April of this year at UFC 273.

UFC welterweight contender, Khamzat Chimaev has received another congratulatory message from Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, following the #3 ranked contender’s first round submission win over Kevin Holland at UFC 279 last weekend.

Chimaev, who is a close friend of Chechen dictator, Kadyrov, has been a prominent figure in the controversial figures inner circle since his tenure in the UFC began – with the dominant grappler even sharing footage of himself grappling and training with the 45-year-old earlier this year. Kadyrov also purchased Khamzat Chimaev a Mercedes SUV following an earlier victory inside the Octagon, which Chimaev ultimately crashed.

Kadyrov, a close friend and ally of Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is potentially facing sanctions from the US treasury, currently. And has also been accused in the past of leading LGBTQ+ purges in the state of Chechnya during his time as republican leader, as well as allegedly orchestrating torture, executions, as well as forced disappearances, and a slew of countless human-rights abuses.

Co-headlining UFC 279 last weekend after he was demoted from a main event clash with Nate Diaz following a massive seven-and-a-half pound weight miss, Khamzat Chimaev submitted Californian striker, Holland in the opening round.

Faking a glove touch against Holland during the opening exchange, Chimaev quickly took Holland to the ground via a body lock, before eventually latching onto a D’Arce choke, scoring his sixth victory under the UFC banner following a prior judging win against Gilbert Burns back in April of this year.

Despite receiving mass criticizm following his weight miss and controversial fight week antics by and large, Chimaev was congratulated on his victory over Holland by the above mentioned, Kadyrov, who posted the message “Akhmat Sila” on his Instagram account, which translates to “Akhmat Power’ – a message commonly used by the republican leader.

Ramzan Kadyrov defends Khamzat Chimaev’s weight miss at UFC 279

Sharing a second post on his VKontakte account, Kadyrov addressed Khamzat Chimaev’s weight miss ahead of UFC 279, defending the Chechen-born fighter.

“(Khamzat) Chimaev absolutely does not worry about his weight, but he does not stand on ceremony with other categories either,” Ramzan Kadyrov posted. “He just goes out, wins, dictates his conditions in the Octagon and puts things in order.” (H/T Bloody Elbow)

Notably, Chimaev, who tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of a December 2020 fight against current welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, confirmed his intentions to retire from professional mixed martial arts as he delt with numerous health issues due to his coronavirus diagnosis, before Kadyrov confirmed how he had pursued the AllStars trainee to continue his career.

The UFC’s newest welterweight star Khamzat Chimaev does not believe that athletes should be judged based on their political beliefs and affiliations.

The promotion’s fast-rising contender recently took to Instagram to voice his disdain for mixing sports with politics. Residing in Sweden, Khamzat Chimaev was born in the occupied republic of Chechnya within the Russian Federation. Of course, Russia has received heavy criticism for its invasion of Ukraine.

“We are athletes, each of us is a patriot of our Motherland,” Chimaev said in an Instagram post. “Lately everyone has interfered with sports with politics. We stand for the country where we live. I am proud of my Motherland and I know that my Motherland is proud of me and supports me.”

While mixed martial arts fans have been enamored with Chimaev’s dominant run inside the Octagon, he has recently come under fire for his ties to Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov. Taking over as the president of Chechnya in 2007, Kadyrov has been accused of multiple human rights violations that have resulted in sanctions being placed to prevent the dictator and his immediate family from entering the United States.

“The Department has extensive credible information that Kadyrov is responsible for numerous gross violations of human rights dating back more than a decade, including torture and extrajudicial killings,” said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an article from The Washington Post.

Khamzat Chimaev Embraces Friendship with Ramzan Kadyrov

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Khamzat Chimaev endured a long and difficult bout with the aftereffects that had him contemplating retirement just three fights into his UFC career. It is said that Ramzan Kadyrov was the voice that convinced Chimaev to continue his MMA career.

Since then, Kadyrov has gifted Chimaev with a brand new Mercedes Benz and regularly appears with the fighter at Akhmat MMA facilities. The gym is sponsored by Kadyrov himself through his government’s budget and carries the name of Kadyrov’s father, Akhmad Kadyrov. Akhmat MMA is operated by AbuZayed Vismuradov, one of the most powerful men in Chechnya who is also sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury for “extrajudicial killings, torture, or other gross violations of internationally recognized human rights.”

Despite all of the disturbing details, Khamzat Chimaev continues to associate with Kadyrov. It’s pretty clear why Chimaev does not want athletes to be held accountable for their beliefs and affiliations.

Chimaev will return to the Octagon on September 10th in the UFC 279 main event. On that night, ‘Borz’ will face The Ultimate Fighter alumni and fan favorite, Nate Diaz in what is likely his last appearance for the UFC.

Over the course of last weekend, footage emerged detailing Chimaev’s recent visit to Chechnya where he trained alongside, Kadyrov, who has been sanctioned by the United States government on numerous occasions for continued human rights violations.

“The grandchildren of the First President of the Chechen Republic, Hero of Russia Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov – Adam and Eli Kadyrov met face to face with the thunderstorm of the Octagon (Khamzat Chimaev),” A caption read on video footage of Chimaev and Kadyrov training. “Despite the fact this is only a friendly sparring, the ‘Chechen Wolf’ exhausted his rivals in his usual manner, once again proving his skill and composure in the fighting arena.”

“Despite the formidable and eminent opponent, the guys were in no way inferior to Khamzat in skill. As befits and fighters, they analyzed the movements and weaknesses of the opponent, after which they proceeded to counterattack. At the end of the training, I myself could not resist the temptation to test my strength in a friendly duel with our dear brother.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

In the time since his April win against Burns, Chimaev, who sits at #3 in the official welterweight rankings, has been linked with returns against both former interim champion, Colby Covington, and Nate Diaz.
