Over the course of his mixed martial arts career, Hughes has fought an amazing 53 times, winning 45 of them.

Hughes has defined toughness since entering the UFC in September of 1999. His work ethic, time and dedication to a sport that he so greatly loves has catapulted him into a class of his own.

Over the years Hughes has produced some of the greatest fights in UFC history. We’ve seen him put an end to his opponent by knockout and we’ve seen him go the distance.

But what makes Hughes one of the greatest of all time is his ability to submit his opponent? Of his 45 career victories, 18 of them have come by submission.

As we continue down the weight chart ranking the best the world of mixed martial arts has to offer, outside of the control of Zuffa, we begin to see a more international trend.

Globalization has long been a goal of Zuffa, but in reality, the globalization of MMA has been happening for decades. While the UFC name has taken the sport by storm, the reality is, the sport existed long before the acronym reached the level of the NFL, NBA or MLB.

Bellator has been snatching up these international talents left and right, showing not only the talent of their scouting division, but just how deep they are willing to reach to bring in talent untouched by the Zuffa companies.

How many Americans managed to crack this month’s rankings?

By now I’m sure it seems like I have an anti-UFC bias, but I swear it’s not the case.

It just so happens that all the positive UFC articles keep getting written, and nobody wants to read the same thing several times over.

One of the great things about the UFC is that they rarely have mismatches.  This doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen, but that it happens rarely.

And yet it does happen.  No matter how much Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg try to spin it, some fights are just plain awful and don’t seem competitive from the first time they’re mentioned to the final bell.

The reason for some of these is because some of the fighters in them are old and worn out.  Anything that might have remained of the glory is faded, and the fighter is badly injured.

Yet somehow the UFC and Joe Silva find these fighters and convince them to step in the cage for us to watch.

Let’s take a look at some of the worst uses of veteran fighters.
