The injury bug has taken a liking to big names lately and this time Rampage Jackson has succumbed to injury and is consequently out of UFC 153.

Dana White broke the news on Twitter just minutes ago:

“Sucks” is an understatement.

This leaves Glover Teixeira with no opponent and it is unclear what actions the UFC will take to amend the situation.

UFC 153 takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro and is headlined with the highly anticipated matchup of Jose Aldo defending his featherweight title against Frankie Edgar, who last fought in the lightweight division in an unsuccessful bid to reclaim the lightweight championship from Benson Henderson.

The event also has the likes of Demian Maia, Phil Davis, Jon Fitch and Gabriel Gonzaga competing. By losing Quinton Jackson, the event itself is not losing a large amount of “star power,” but it is undoubtedly unfortunate that we will not see Jackson compete against the rising Glover Teixeira.

More news as it breaks.

UFC 153: Jose Aldo Involved in Motoring Accident, Walks Away Unharmed

How would you have reacted if I had come bearing the news that Jose Aldo would not be able to compete at UFC 153 and his match with Frankie Edgar had been postponed?

Fortunately, this is not the case and Jose Aldo will be able to compete at UFC 153 and will defend his title against Frankie Edgar in “The Answer’s” featherweight debut.

Over the weekend—in Jose Aldo’s native land of Brazil—Aldo was riding his motorcycle when he was hit by a car. Aldo was incredibly lucky to walk away unscathed, but his coaches are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure that Aldo remains healthy in the lead-up to his title defense. Aldo’s teammates, who reside near the scene of the crash (Luis Ramos and Alexandre Baixinho), took Aldo to see head coach Andre Pederneiras, who advised Aldo to stick to riding in taxis until October 13th.

This event could have very easily been similar to that of Frank Mir‘s. Mir was involved in a motorcycle accident himself just a few years ago when he was the UFC heavyweight champion at the time. The accident led to a lengthy timeout for Mir. Thankfully, Mir managed to bounce back from his injuries to claim the title once again.

Expect fireworks on October 13 when we see two of the best strikers go toe-to-toe at UFC 153 in a fight that surely won’t be disappointing.

UFC 148 Preview: The American Gangster, Chael Sonnen, Discusses His ‘Tough’ Life

Whether you like him or not, it can not be denied that Chael Sonnen is one of the funniest characters there are in the world of sport. His trash-talking skills are comparable to that of the greats: Muhammad Ali, Kevin Garnett and Terrell Owens to name but a few.

Chael Sonnen has swagger and no-one in the sport of MMA can come close to his standards. Pretty bold statements from myself, but Sonnen has a history of living up to expectations and then exceeding them.

Just ask Anderson Silva.

UFC 148 is set to be one of the greatest spectacles in the history of MMA, where we will witness Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva lock horns for a second time in one of the biggest rematches in history.

And this time, it’s personal.

This is a match-up that fans have wanted to see since the first time the two met, back in UFC 117. It is here that Sonnen showed the world what he’s made of. It is here that Silva’s aura of invincibility was heavily damaged.

Amidst various controversies, Sonnen went on to prove that he’s a top contender with wins over Michael Bisping and Brian Stann. Whilst Silva racked up wins over Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami. This left no doubt as to who the top contenders in the division were and after almost two years of insults and taunts from both parties —one party being A LOT more involved in the dishing out of insults than the other—Silva and Sonnen will meet again.

This isn’t a fight that really needs a lot of promotion because this is a fight that fans want to see. I’d even go as far as to say that no promos were needed to hype this fight up because of all the questions that will be answered as a result of this fight taking place: Did TRT really do that much to improve Sonnen’s performance the first time the two met? Has Silva learnt from his mistakes from the first time? What’s next for Sonnen if he loses? What’s next for the winner? Who is the best fighter in the middleweight division?

It is safe to say that lot of questions will be answered after this fight.

UFC 148 is also a chance for Silva to redeem himself after UFC 117, where Sonnen dominated the champ in devastating fashion. Sonnen exposed Silva’s take-down defence and put Silva on his back for longer than all of Silva’s opponents in the UFC had done, combined.

Sonnen even managed to out-strike the man that many believe to be the most accurate, and even the greatest striker in the game. Redemption for Silva is a huge factor going forwards for this fight and will be an ‘X-Factor’ for Silva in this fight.

But remember, Sonnen is out to prove to the world that Silva potentially ‘got lucky’ the first time they met. Sonnen has one of the best work ethics in the UFC and is one tough customer in the Octagon.

The legitimacy of a rib-injury suffered by Silva before UFC 117 has been highly debated as to whether or not it can be blamed for Silva’s poor performance. As a result, Sonnen will be out to prove that he can beat a healthy Silva.

Now, I know I said promos weren’t needed to hype this fight up, but I’ve got a real gem for you. Personally, I think that Sonnen is using satire here when talking about his ‘rough’ upbringing. But then again, it’s Chael P. Sonnen. There’s always a chance he is being serious.

I won’t ruin it for you. Just sit back and enjoy the ‘Chael Sonnen Show’.

The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale: Dana White Blasts Steve Mazzagatti on Twitter

Dana White has once again voiced his anger toward Steve Mazzagatti, following The Ultimate Fighter 15 finale.

Mazzagatti has been criticised a number of times by White and fighters alike for his decisions whilst officiating. For example, in the first match between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir, Mazzagatti waited longer than needed to stop the fight after Lesnar clearly tapped to Mir’s kneebar.

This is not the first time White has criticised the controversial referee, whom he had dubbed the “worst referee in…history” over a year ago.

White has now called out Mazzagatti for failing to stand Martin Kampmann and Jake Ellenberger up during the first round of the fight in a stalemate on the ground, in which little progression from both fighters was achieved. This came after Ellenberger rocked Kampmann with a huge left hand and Kampmann was made to go into survival mode at such an early point in the fight.

A failed guillotine attempt from Kampmann slowed the offense from Ellenberger on the top, and very little action followed for the rest of the round.

Fans in attendance of this fight voiced their concerns at the lack of action, and White clearly sees why they were so upset.

White believes that Mazzagatti failing to stand the fighters up and this ultimately led to “4 mins of nothing.”

His full tweet read: “Mazzagatti the fight killer 4 mins of nothing in the ground in the first round!!! The worst ref EVER!!! Drives me NUTS”

However, some fans will side with Mazzagatti as the belief that standing the fighters up is not a good idea because it doesn’t allow the fighters to demonstrate their technical skills on the ground—an art that is often underrated in mixed martial arts as most fans (especially casual fans) prefer to watch a stand-up striking affair.

The point is, events such as these have led to severe criticism and have ultimately led to Mazzagatti being possibly the most reviled referee in the history of the sport.

Following his humbling loss to Jon Jones at UFC 135, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has stated that he plans to pursue a career in boxing once his UFC contract comes to an end.

Jackson was outclassed by Jones in the “Fight of the Night” winning matchup, which saw Jones submitting Jackson in the fourth-round, via rear-naked choke.

Jackson has highlight reel knockout wins over the likes of Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, with 14 of his wins coming by way of knockout. He possesses one-punch knockout power and has made a name in the UFC and in international organizations with his explosive striking.

He now plans to translate the success he had in MMA into the sport of boxing:

“I hate fighting people who are scared,” Jackson told ESPN. “When you fight somebody who is scared you never know what they’re going to do. They turn and run.

“That’s why I’m gonna go to boxing. I’m gonna try boxing because they’ve got to stand with you. If I get knocked out I don’t care because at least it’s a fight.

“I’ve tried a lot of boxing, I’m falling in love with boxing and I know I can put butts on seats over there.”

It may be a while before we see Rampage in boxing; he called out “Shogun” Rua following the UFC 135 loss, bit with “Shogun” tied up, it looks like Rampage will most likely take on Forrest Griffin.

UFC 139: Cung Le Calls out "Keyboard Warriors"

Cung Le makes his debut in the UFC against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 139 on Nov. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, and he is not going to take this fight lightly.

The former Strikeforce middleweight champion told MMAWeekly.com that he expects Wanderlei to be a dangerous opponent, despite his recent decline in performance:

He’s kind of like a warrior that has his back against the wall. A lot of times that’s more dangerous … Wanderlei is not ready to retire. He’s gonna be more dangerous, he’s gonna come and fight a lot harder. He chooses to step in the cage and so do I. It doesn’t make me feel good about myself to think I might be the one to retire him, or that he might get hurt.

Since Wanderlei lost to Chris Leben at UFC 132, many have called for Wanderlei to retire from MMA, with the common criticism being that Wanderlei is past his prime and is more prone to injury at his age.

However, Le squashed these criticisms and made his opinion on the matter clear:

It takes a lot to be a fighter, it takes a lot to step inside the cage and for people to say certain things that they don’t know about, it’s kind of disrespectful. There’s plenty of keyboard warriors out there that think they know it all and they never respect a minute doing what we do.

This marks Le’s first fight in over a year; he, has been inactive since June 2010, following a spectacular TKO win over Scott Smith at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum.
