Rashad Evans could be calling it a career again.

The 42-year-old former UFC champion Rashad Evans might be heading into another retirement. Evans made a quick comeback to MMA recently when he fought on the main card of the Eagle FC 44 card.

Evans faced Gabriel Checco and walked away with the victory. It was the first win for Evans in quite a while. And now that he has gotten that win he was looking for, he may be ready to enjoy his retirement.

Evans had a great run in the UFC during his time there. He came to the UFC back in 2005 when he won The Ultimate Fighter Season Two. He later went on to win the light heavyweight title. Towards the end of his career, Evans ran into some trouble. He finished his UFC career with five straight losses. He spoke recently in an interview with BJPenn.com about why he chose to return to fighting.

“It was a few different things, ending my career the way I did, it didn’t sit well with me,” Evans said. “Just doing a lot of soul-searching over the past few years brought back that competitive edge and also some of the things, the pandemic put things into perspective. It made me want to compete. It felt like we were running out of time to do the things we truly love to do.”

Evans made the decision to return from a three-year retirement and join Khabib Nurmagomedov’s promotion for one last shot at going out on a win. Now that Evans has gotten the win he was looking for, he doesn’t feel the need to do it again.

“I don’t know, I keep asking myself if I’m going to compete again or leave it as it is. It feels good to be on this high note, a big part of me just says stay here,” Evans said. “At this point in my life, I feel as if I don’t have much to fight for. Fighting for me has always been about the personal journey and I feel like I have passed the test I needed to pass. I’m still in the gym, training and working, I’m sure maybe somewhere down the road something will pop up for me where I’m just like, let me get one more. I’m going to take my time with it. I’m 42-years-old, we’ll see. That is a big part of it, that is a huge part of it on if I will do it again. I got the win I have been so desperate to get. Now that I got the win, I don’t want to trade places and get a loss.”

Evans was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2019. He also can be seen behind the desk for various ESPN commentary media duties.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans thinks Joe Rogan saying a racial slur on his podcast in the past is wrong, but he isn’t racist.

Evans and Rogan go back years from their respective time together in the UFC. Rogan has been a longtime color commentator for the promotion while Evans began his championship run after winning The Ultimate Fighter 2.

Rogan has been under heavy fire from all sides as of late, particularly following a video compilation of him saying the ‘N-Word’ went viral on social media. During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Evans showed support for his longtime friend and answered whether or not Rogan has racial prejudice.

“It’s very tough for me,” Evans said. “That compilation of the ‘N-Word’ it really is hard to go against that. But I know Joe, and I know the kind of person Joe is, and Joe’s never gave me any kinda feeling or any kind of indication that he’s racist or anything like that. I believe that people make some off-kilter remarks sometimes. And when you’re a comedian, you’re used to doing that.

“Not to excuse any of this, but at the same time when you go back that far, I’m sure there’s going to be a compilation of a lot of unfavorable things that people have said that can come back and bite them.”

Evans recently returned to MMA after a four-year hiatus at Eagle FC 44. He defeated Gabriel Checco via unanimous decision.

Many former and current UFC fighters have spoken out of defense and support for Rogan after the video went viral. The UFC still plans on having Rogan on the UFC 271 commentary team this weekend.

Former UFC champion Rashad Evans completed his MMA comeback with an impressive win over Gabriel Checco at Eagle FC 44.

Evans made his triumphant return to the cage and was searching for his first win in nine years in MMA. Before retiring from the UFC, he lost five-straight fights and many questioned whether or not we would ever see Evans compete again.

Evans proved the doubters wrong and looked in great shape despite the lengthy layoff. He used his signature wrestling to overwhelm Checco and control the pace of the fight.

Checco had Evans in trouble on a few different occasions during the bout. He nearly submitted him with a few leg lock attempts, but Evans was able to reverse position into a crucifix.

There weren’t a whole lot of striking exchanges during the fight, with most of the bout taking place in the grappling department. After three rounds, Evans earned the unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards.

Evans, a UFC Hall of Famer, won the UFC light heavyweight championship by knocking out Forrest Griffin at UFC 92. He would go on to fight most of the elite talent in the light heavyweight division and earn wins over the likes of Rampage Jackson, Chael Sonnen, and Dan Henderson.

It’s unclear whether or not Evans will return to the cage, but he sounded cautiously optimistic in his post-fight interview. He seems like a new version of himself and is having fun competing once again.

Before fighting Evans, Checco had fought in smaller promotions such as LFA and FFC. He’s also competed in Submission Underground and enjoyed some success in grappling.

Evans’ win in his return is already one of the best stories of 2022 as MMA looks to reel in another year of nonstop action.

Eagle FC 44: Spong vs. Kharitonov took place tonight from the FLXcast Arena in Miami, Florida.

In the main event, undefeated boxer Tyrone Spong sought to go 3-0 in his MMA career when he took on Sergei Kharitonov, who entered with a total of 42 MMA fights and a record of 33-9. Spong is 14-0 as a pro boxer and also has kickboxing experience.

In the co-main event, “Suga” Rashad Evans competed for the first time since his “retirement” in 2018 after losing to Anthony Smith. Evans came into the fight on a three-fight losing streak after falling to Sam Alvey and Daniel Kelly prior to his loss to Smith. Evans took on Gabriel Checco, who entered with a record of 12-5. Most recently, Checco defeated Simon Marini via unanimous decision last October.

The longstanding dispute between Dana White and heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has been in the public eye more than ever this week and one former fighter shared his thoughts on the issue.

On a recent episode of the PBD Podcast, Rashad Evans came to White’s defense saying that the UFC President is a very generous guy and treats his champions well despite what people may think. Evans credited White for his straight shooter approach, he said.

Rashad Evans Believes Francis Ngannou Should Have Been Paid More

While Evans praised the UFC President for being an all-around good person, he did admit that he believes Francis Ngannou should have been paid more than $600,000 for his recent title defense against Cyril Gane.

On the topic of Ngannou switching to boxing for a lucrative payday against Tyson Fury, host Patrick Bet-David asked Evans if he thought White cared about losing ‘The Predator’. Evans said that he believed Dana does care and is aware of the value he has in Ngannou.

“When you have a heavyweight that can do what Francis does, it just makes the whole league look better. You know, there can be a lot of great fighters in different weight classes but heavyweight just says something. You know, the baddest man in the world just has to be at heavyweight.”

Meanwhile, the status of Ngannou’s future in the UFC remains less clear than ever before as he is still without a contract and is receiving threats of a lawsuit from the promotion.

MMA great, Jon Jones is no stranger to trouble and at times his actions and personal demons have over-shone his incredible talent. Jones has been involved for hit and runs, DUI’s, and being popped for cocaine and it seems that a lot of Jones’s issues stem from his relationship with drugs and alcohol. Jones has previously been in rehab and has acknowledged that he has a drinking problem.

The Jones saga recently added another chapter as he was arrested for domestic violence charges in late September where he was supposedly was intoxicated. Following this incident, the former UFC light-heavyweight champion has vowed to quit drinking and former teammate Rashad Evans believes he knows what could help

Rashad Evans Says Jon Jones Should Eat Mushrooms

The benefits of psychedelic drugs have recently become a much-discussed topic as of late and Evans is a big believer. Even going as far as becoming a vegan due to an experience he had on DMT.

I do mushrooms, right? So, it was when I had a really really deep trip that just caused me to have one of those ego deaths.” Evans said on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

“I was smelling real bad. I smelled myself and was like ‘oh my God, I stink.’ Then the knowingness said ‘You stink because you eat dead rotting flesh.’ And it said ‘If you want life, then you eat life.” (Transcribed by MiddleEasy)

Evans believes that if Jones were to take psychedelics, it could have a profound impact.

“Think the problem is also is the fact that we’re putting this on [Jones], who does he have around him?” Evans said on the PBD podcast. “At the end of the day, it has to come from [the heart]. I might be a hippie for saying this, but I think five grams of mushrooms will set Jon free.”

“If he did the toad which is five MEO DMT, not the regular stuff. That right there would show him something because it’s a totally different experience. But at the same time, you’re almost reborn at that moment. It’s a medicine that just completely just changes everything that you even know as reality and even yourself.

“So I think he needs something powerful like that because what he’s searching for, he may not even know anymore. He just may be feeling that something is not right and he’s trying to chase it.”
