This week, former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans had some kind words for Jon Jones.

Evans called his former teammate and opponent the best fighter he has ever faced inside the Octagon. Jones responded to Evans’ comments in a recent Tweet:

“Big words coming from such an icon of our sport. I’m truly honored and humbled. Whether you know it or not you’ve been a role model to me, I sincerely thank you for your contribution to myself, the sport and so many around the world.”

Jones and Evans fought each other back in 2012 when they headlined UFC 145. “Bones” won the contest, defeating Evans via unanimous decision to retain the light heavyweight championship. It was his third consecutive title defense at the time. He has gone on to continue a successful run through the 205-pound division.

Now, he prepares to defend the light heavyweight championship against Thiago Santos in the main event of UFC 239. The pay-per-view (PPV) goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 6, 2019.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is not only the best fighter Rashad Evans has faced — he’s also the greatest fighter in history.

Evans was recently announced to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame after a legendary career that saw him become champion and hold wins over many legends of the game.

And despite having faced the likes of Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson, Lyoto Machida and many more, Jones is the easily the best fighter Evans has faced, who went one step further.

“Without a doubt, Jon Jones [is the best I’ve faced],” Evans told TMZ. “When it comes down to it, I think that Jon Jones is the best in history. Apart from his troubles outside the cage and things like that — when he’s inside the cage, he’s dynamic. He’s got some skill. But, I would say technically speaking, he’s probably the best fighter.”

Jones On Another Level

Evans notably had a grudge match with Jones at UFC 145 back in 2012. However, “Bones” would emerge victorious as he cruised to a comfortable unanimous decision win to retain his light heavyweight crown.

While many have Jones as the greatest of all time, “Suga” gave a unique perspective that shows just how good “Bones” is.

“When you fight guys that good, you feel like after the fight is over, there’s another level that I need to get to,” Evans added. “You don’t feel like, ‘aw man, I had a bad day.’ You just feel, ‘man, I need to get to another level to be able to beat this guy.’”

It’s hard to argue with Evans here. What do you think?
