UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is not only the best fighter Rashad Evans has faced — he’s also the greatest fighter in history.

Evans was recently announced to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame after a legendary career that saw him become champion and hold wins over many legends of the game.

And despite having faced the likes of Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson, Lyoto Machida and many more, Jones is the easily the best fighter Evans has faced, who went one step further.

“Without a doubt, Jon Jones [is the best I’ve faced],” Evans told TMZ. “When it comes down to it, I think that Jon Jones is the best in history. Apart from his troubles outside the cage and things like that — when he’s inside the cage, he’s dynamic. He’s got some skill. But, I would say technically speaking, he’s probably the best fighter.”

Jones On Another Level

Evans notably had a grudge match with Jones at UFC 145 back in 2012. However, “Bones” would emerge victorious as he cruised to a comfortable unanimous decision win to retain his light heavyweight crown.

While many have Jones as the greatest of all time, “Suga” gave a unique perspective that shows just how good “Bones” is.

“When you fight guys that good, you feel like after the fight is over, there’s another level that I need to get to,” Evans added. “You don’t feel like, ‘aw man, I had a bad day.’ You just feel, ‘man, I need to get to another level to be able to beat this guy.’”

It’s hard to argue with Evans here. What do you think?

Rashad Evans explains how he hopes his UFC career will be remembered by fight fans after having a long and successful run.

Over the past few years despite his lack of performance inside the Octagon, Evans continued to push forward with his pro-MMA career.

In his latest bout that aired on the preliminary portion of the UFC 225 pay-per-view card in Chicago, Illinois at the Allstate Arena, Anthony Smith connected with a knee on Evans just under a minute into the fight that rendered him unconscious. He dropped five consecutive contests with two of those bouts taking place at 185 pounds in the later stage of his career.

Evans, who finished his pro-MMA career with a 19-8-1 pro-MMA record, beat Forrest Griffin at UFC 92 to win the UFC light heavyweight champion. Now, he’s slated to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this July.

The UFC Veteran recently spoke with Luke Thomas of MMA Fighting where he reflected on his MMA career. This is where he noted that he hopes that his career will be remembered as someone giving.

“I couldn’t be happier [with my career],” Evans said. “Even though it didn’t end the way that I wanted to, it ended the way it needed to. That’s one that I had to reflect on and accept on. Just accept and move forward in life. But there’s a lot to be proud of with the career that I have. Watching that [career] montage, I forgot the emotion behind some of the things I’ve accomplished because I haven’t put myself in a position to have perspective. So being able to have perspective one Saturday was just an emotional thing.”

“I hope it’s one that is about giving,” Evans said. “Yeah, I was tough and yeah, I did my thing. But, at the end of the day, I think a life is truly measured by how it has impacted others. I want to be able to be one that impacted a lot of people.”

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans guarantees a heavyweight fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier would go differently.

Jones and Cormier have fought each other twice at light heavyweight, with the former coming out on top on both occasions.

However, Cormier is now the heavyweight champion and there have been talks of Jones moving up to face him in a trilogy fight. If it ever did occur, Evans believes it won’t go the same way as the first two fights.

“I think if Jon Jones did fight DC at heavyweight it’d be a totally different fight. I think Jon Jones knows that, he is a very smart fighter,” Evans said on MMA Tonight (via Bloody Elbow). “I think he has a better chance of beating DC at 205 because when DC makes 205, it’s not only the fact that he’s gotta face Jon Jones’ skills — because that’s one thing in itself.

“But then he has to worry about facing himself on a physical sense. How much did he deplete his body during the weight cut? That seems to be what causes the damage later on in the fight when he can’t absorb a shot to the head because he doesn’t have enough fluid in his head because he’s dehydrated. That’s what happens when you cut too much weight.”

Advantages At Heavyweight For Cormier

Cormier has fought at heavyweight twice now and certainly looks much better and healthier too.

Evans believes “DC” fighting at his natural weight class also makes him more durable and strong.

“At heavyweight he is a little bit more durable,” Evans added. “He has this strength at heavyweight that he doesn’t have at 205. It’d be interesting to see the matchup at heavyweight because I guarantee it’d be a lot different fight.”

Jones seems to understand this as well. Last week, he claimed his greatest chance of losing was to Cormier at heavyweight. He also added he was not prepared to give his longtime rival any physical advantages.

“Daniel Cormier is a special athlete and everyone can be beat,” Jones said. “I think my greatest chance of losing would be to a guy like Daniel Cormier, with giving him a power and strength advantage over me, it just doesn’t make sense.

“Right now I make light heavyweight very easily and it just wouldn’t make no sense to fight a guy who I think technically [is] on your level, and to give him a size advantage, I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it. I’m sure my fans don’t like to hear me talk like that, but that’s just me being a realist and being respectful to Daniel’s abilities.”
