Following a devastating loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, Ronda Rousey has been surprisingly more active than her first loss. Following UFC 193, the ex-bantamweight champion went in to full hibernation. The defeat against Holly Holm was the first time ‘Rowdy’ had ever been finished or took an ‘L,’ but against Nunes it was different. Unable to mount any sort of offense or defense, Rousey caved in less than one minute. Thankfully, according to her Mom and coaches, this time around she is in much better spirits.

Sadly it appears the people in Rousey’s Venice beach neighborhood aren’t in such a positive mood. According to a report on Daily Mail, the former champ’s home was vandalised in the wake of her UFC 207 loss. Here’s an image of the side of Rousey’s house, graffiti sprayed across which is thankfully illegible.

First Pics Of Ronda

Aside from her prepared media statement, all has been reasonably quiet from Ronda Rousey. This week she did release a somewhat emotional social media post. Quoting JK Rowling, ‘Rowdy’ said ‘rock bottom’ is where she’ll now rebuild from. Even with the brutal UFC 207 loss, and her home being damaged, ‘Rowdy’ didn’t exactly look down.

Thoughts On Future

Something that very few people have discussed is the possibility of Ronda Rousey moving to featherweight. With the inaugural w-145 title on the line at UFC 208, perhaps bulking up, or simply not cutting as much, would be a smart move for ‘Rowdy?’ If the above images are anything to go by, she certainly looks as if she walks around at near to that weight. With Mike Dolce in her corner, and perhaps not coach Edmond, would Rousey go far at featherweight?

Ahead of this past Friday (December 30) all eyes were on Ronda Rousey. Coming back for the first time since her knockout loss to Holly Holm, ‘Rowdy’ received an immediate title fight at UFC 207. Even after such a brutal loss and her time in recluse, many were picking ‘Rowdy’ for victory against Nunes. Putting all that discussion to rest right away, ‘The Lioness’ battered Rousey in just 48 seconds. Again eyeing an uncertain future, the former Olympian’s striking game has become a topic of debate.

Questions about Rousey’s mental readiness or the ‘fire’ to compete aside, where was her stand up? Obviously most people are looking at Edmond Tarverdyan first. After her fight with Holm, coach Edmond’s credentials came under fire, and the story since UFC 207 is no different.

Joe Rogan’s Thoughts

Speaking during last night’s UFC 207 recap on the JRE, Rogan raised some intriguing points:

“That was just so surreal, it was the least competitive main event ever I think I’ve seen. Even McGregor vs. Aldo was just one dynamic shot that landed and put him out. Physically, Ronda looked great. There were some red flags before though, what kind of sparring was she doing?”

“I saw video of her hitting pads with Edmond (Tarverdyan) and they were just standing in front of each other. She wasn’t moving, she was just standing still hitting pads like pop-pop-pop. She had to close the distance and clinch, the idea to stand against Amanda Nunes was ludicrous. The difference in punching power was literally double.”

Marketing Ploy

Rogan spoke out weeks before UFC 207 about the skewed promotion by the UFC. Claiming the hype videos that essentially focused solely on Rousey were ‘bizarre,’ the commentator delves further in to the UFC’s promotion of her return:

“The whole thing was a big marketing hype piece within the Ronda Rousey business. A lot of people were 100% sure that Ronda wins, I was 100% sure ‘who the fuck knows?’ Ronda was in amazing shape, you think about the things she was able to do in the past. Maybe she flips Nunes on her head and gets the armbar, then suddenly she’s the greatest again. She was standing straight up in the air, wasn’t moving her head, then she put her legs together. That’s when you know someone is really hurt, because sh*t just isn’t working properly.”

“When she got knocked out by Holly, I really think there are a lot of people who are never the same. Those neck kicks do a lot of damage, people can’t absorb those shots. When you get hit in the neck like that and collapse, it’s doing so much damage. The Nunes fight was hard to watch. After she beat Rousey, she put a finger up to her mouth and went right up to Edmond and went ‘shhh!’”

“She wasn’t there, though, mentally. I think there were things leading up to it, the biggest red flag was Dana White. For him to say she could skip all the media sh*t, there’s just something going on there. Edmond is obviously a terrible coach. I felt like after the first jab Ronda was just lost.”

Bravo

“I feel like she needs to go train wrestling every day, twice a day. We shouldn’t be seeing highlight reels of her hitting pads, she should be hitting singles and doubles all day. If I’m training a Muay Thai striker in Jiu Jitsu, I’m not telling him to go out there and get the fight to the ground. I want him to win the fight with his Muay Thai, then we get another four months to improve the ground game. It’s like some coaches want to see their fighter win with their moves, their speciality.”

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and former women’s bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey have a lot in common. They are probably the first two names that come to mind when the phrase ‘MMA superstar’ arises, but they also shared a very similar sequence of events in the last year. After receiving previously unseen amounts of hype before their most recent fights, both Rousey and McGregor suffered well publicized and career-altering defeats; In fights they were both heavily favored to get the win.

For ‘Rowdy,’ the loss to Holly Holm might well have marked the last time the ex-champion fights, period. The circumstances surrounding ‘The Notorious’ and his first UFC loss were slightly diferfent though, but the outcome was nearly identical; massive backlash from fans who rejoiced in his defeat, although McGregor never suffered the deep depression and life changing sorrow that Rousey did, at least not extrovertly. His submission loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196 has spurred a rematch at UFC 202 on August 20.

Both McGregor and Rousey can arguably get the credit for bringing more attention to the UFC in the last year than the promotion had ever experienced before. Their brash manner and hogging of the limelight made them household names, and with it the banner for whom they compete. Casual fans who knew nothing of the sport before now had the name and date, and also how to watch these outrageous superstars attempt to back up their trash talk in the octagon.

Even after their respective losses, Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey are superstars still. That’s what made this image, when released months back, quite a tantalising and sensational subject:

All we knew was that the two titans of modern MMA were staring each other down for some kind of commercial featuring Bud Light. Well now it’s explained further, as this teaser trailer (as if we needed it) has been released. It would appear that McGregor and Rousey are members of opposing teams taking part in a type of MMA challenge.

Emotional Ronda Rousey Wants To Fulfil Promise To Dying Lady

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has faced the hardest few months of her life this year, following her devastating loss to Holly Holm. Before facing ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ at UFC 193, ‘Rowdy’ was one of the most dominant athletes on the planet. Her every word was headline making news, and she became a sensation with her dominant performances and raw attitude outside the octagon. Then came that fateful night against the massive underdog Holm in Melbourne. Some 56,000 fans packed out the Etihad Stadium to watch the November 13 pay-per-view, which did not fail to deliver.

Rousey

Holm ended the one sided and shocking beating on Rousey with this well timed head kick in round two, and from that moment on it’s been chaos in the life of the former champion. In the midst of rampant criticism and, for lack of a better word, hatred from fans the world over, ‘Rowdy’ went in to hiding following her first loss. Now six months removed from Rousey’s brutal KO, her comeback is imminent. UFC president Dana White recently confirmed she’ll be facing whomever is champion when she climbs back in to the octagon, just showing how much clout she carries still.

Another example of her sway is Ronda Rousey’s placement in Time Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential People. She was included in the sports section with names like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Usain Bolt, quite the honor for a mixed martial artist to make that list of just ten sports personalities.

During her interview with Time Magazine, Rousey gave off a very different aura than we’ve ever seen. Check out the transcript and the video is on the next page.

“I used to get out of bed with the conviction that I’d be better tan I was yesterday, now these days I guess it’s hope that gets me out bed. I have this wall in my house, with all the good things on there, like these letters from little girls. All the positive stuff from people who say I’m helping them, and that helps me. I have thousands of people trying to tell me the worst things they can think to say.

“Everyday, all these people constantly trying to reach me and tell me these negative things. People like to see people rise, and they like to see them fall too because it makes them feel we are human like they are. Those aren’t my friends cheering for me out there, I’m their entertainment….

Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm Full Fight Video

Unquestionably one of the most shocking nights in sport history, UFC 193 went down on November 14, 2015 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Etihad Stadium in Australia.

The main event featured previously dominant women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey putting her strap on the line against decorated boxing champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm.

Heading into the event, Rousey held a perfect 12-0 professional record along with an Olympic Judo background and she was a massive favorite to beat Holm.

Despite the obvious credentials of “The Preacher’s Daughter”, many had felt as if Rousey would simply run through Holm like she had all of her previous opponents.

Well, as they say, anything can happen in the fight game, and so it did.

Holm went on to pick apart the “Rowdy” one throughout the first round, bloodying and tiring the champion in a one-sided showcase.

The second round then came and it was the beginning of the end for Rousey, as Holm would land a brutal head kick early on that shut the lights off for the “Rowdy” one.

Very few saw it coming, and it will undoubtedly live on as one of the most monumental events in mixed martial arts history.

Relive the action with the full fight below courtesy of the UFC:

Holm is now set to defend her title in the co-main event of March 5’s UFC 196 against former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate.

Chuck Liddell On Ronda Rousey: I’ll Train Her Anytime She Wants

Known as an elite level grappler with a decorated background in Olympic level judo, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey had focused heavily on her striking game over the past few years, and she had improved on this part of her game to an extent.

That being said, she ran into a multitude of problems when she put her title on the line against former boxing champion Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm in the main event of last November’s UFC 193 from Australia.

Rousey was shockingly picked apart before suffering a brutal second round knockout, surrendering her title in the process.

While Holm is obviously amongst the elite when it comes to pure strikers in MMA, Rousey, along with her coach Edmond Tarverdyan, came under extreme criticism after the bout with many feeling as if the “Rowdy” one needed to change camps.

UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos had expressed his interest in Rousey coming to King’s MMA in California, and even rival boxing icon Floyd “Money” Mayweather had offered up support to the fallen “Rowdy” one.

Most recently, former UFC light heavyweight champion and legendary knockout artist Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell touched on the situation, giving more credit to Tarverydan than most, but admitting that it’s a different story when matched up with someone at the caliber of Holm:

“Is it the guy that told her she could out strike Holly Holm?” Liddell vexed when asked by TMZ.com.  “Ronda’s striking has greatly improved, he’s done a great job with her striking — but it’s another step when you go against a professional striker.”

With 13 of his 21 career victories coming by way of knockout, Liddell is definitely one of the most idolized strikers to have ever competed inside of the Octagon, and as it turns out, he would be willing to show Rousey a thing or two:

“I’ll train her any time she wants,” Liddell said.

Should Rousey consider training with “The Iceman”?
