Rose Namajunas is still willing to fight Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but there’s a catch

Jedrzejczyk is coming off of back-to-back losses as a result of fighting the current UFC women’s strawweight champion twice.

Their first fight went down in November at UFC 217 where Namajunas won with a first-round knockout and their second fight went down at the UFC 223 pay-per-view event in April that saw Namajunas win by decision.

During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, the UFC champ stated that as of right now she doesn’t want to fight Jedrzejczyk at the moment.

Instead, she wants to fight other contenders while Jedrzejczyk gets a few more wins under her belt.

“Right now, that fight doesn’t really interest me at the moment,” said Namajunas (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “I think I’d be interested to see how she does with somebody else before even entertaining that possibility. At the moment, there’s not much to gain from running that back again.”

“Unless she’s says I’m the best – publicly!” said Namajunas. “Publicly because I already know she knows. You gotta say it to everybody! [Laughs] She knows I’m the best but she won’t admit it to everybody.”

The former UFC women’s strawweight champion is slated to take on fellow strawweight contender Tecia Torres at the upcoming UFC on FOX 30 event.

UFC on FOX 30 is set to take place on July 28 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The main card will air on FOX while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Rose Namajunas Wants To Test Mackenzie Dern’s Skills

Rose Namajunas wants to test her grappling against Mackenzie Dern…

Due to her decorated history as a world-class Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion, Mackenzie Dern has gained quite a bit of attention since making her debut as a UFC strawweight this past March at UFC 222 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And she’s been successful thus far, picking up a split-decision victory over Ashley Yoder in her promotional debut and submitting Amanda Cooper last weekend at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The only problem, however, is that Dern has had issues making weight. In fact, she weighed in seven pounds over the 115-pound limit for her bout against Cooper. Because of that, it’s unclear whether or not she’ll remain in the strawweight division, but if she does, Rose Namajunas would like a shot at her:

“Other than the weight issue, I thought she looked great,” Namajunas said on a recent edition of the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast. “That is something, I’ve always wanted to test my jiu-jitsu against, that would be awesome, I would like to face her. But, she just has to get her shit together and that may be down the road.

“She beat Gabi Garcia in a jiu-jitsu match, so that would be awesome. And she can obviously strike a little bit. She has that heavy first step, that a wrestler has sometimes that good right hand. You can tell she has that style developing. So it will be interesting to see if she can fix her issues and maybe she can be a future contender.”

Namajunas, the reigning strawweight champion, is coming off of back-to-back victories over ex-titleholder Joanna Jedrzejczyk, but her next fight has yet to be set. Dern is likely a few fights and a few issues to fix away from earning a title shot, but the match-up could be an intriguing one down the road.

Conor McGregor Apologizes To Karolina Kowalkiewicz For UFC 223 Incident

Conor McGregor appears to be full of remorse for his UFC 223 attack…

The post Conor McGregor Apologizes To Karolina Kowalkiewicz For UFC 223 Incident appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

In the weeks since Conor McGregor’s UFC 223 outburst that left him incarcerated in Brooklyn, New York, “The Notorious” has apparently attempted to mend the fences with some of the people affected by his heinous, unnecessary actions.

His online apology to UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas was rebuked, yet another prominent 115-pound contender responded differently.

Former strawweight title contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz, who owns a 2016 win over “Thug” Rose and was present during McGregor’s attack prior to her UFC 223 win over Felice Herrig, recently detailed her view of the chaotic scene to MMA Flashback (via MMA Mania) before revealing McGregor wrote her an apology she had accepted.

In her opinion, she’s seen worse in her native Poland:

“I saw Conor McGregor hitting the windows, then saw Rose Namajuans crying while Pat was protecting her face. Chiesa’s face was blood stained. My coaches told me to hide, but I wanted to see what was going on, but they kept me under the seats. And that’s all, in my opinion Conor bent a little, he probably realized what happened afterward and he wrote an apology letter to me. I have no intention of suing anyone. Growing up in LODZ I saw worse things.”

Kowalkiewicz clearly has no plans to sue McGregor, although two fighters who were injured by McGregor’s outrageous outburst and forced off out of their fights – lightweight Michael Chiesa and flyweight Ray Borg – will be suing “The Notorious” for injuries suffered, and no one can really blame them.

That will most likely be the avenue in which McGregor is harmed most for his decision to throw a metal dolly through a bus containing his rival Khabib Nurmagomedov; he’s unlikely to serve any jail time even though he was booked on a felony charge due to the attack being his first offense on U.S. soil and his wealth enabling him to hire a high-priced legal counsel to plead his charges down.

Just don’t count Kowalkiewicz among those looking for compensation from the superstar, because she’s already accepted his apology.

Understandably, many fighters have been very critical over Mackenzie Dern clocking in at 7.4 the strawweight limit for her UFC 224 fight against Amanda Cooper. But now, the champ herself has weighed in on the scale fail. And she is not impressed.

Tuesday on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, strawweight champion Rose Namajunas joined the show along with fiancé and trainer Pat Barry, and even the always humble and courteous champion could not restrain herself from voicing her disapproval for the Dern’s weigh-in catastrophe:

“That right hand she threw looked like it was a big ol’ girl throwing that punch.” Rose continues, “That was a heavy, heavy punch, and that was from a heavy girl. And not to say that that’s not her punch and that’s not a dangerous punch, but maybe that would’ve been a little bit different had she made weight or at least gave an effort to make weight.”

There has been enough criticism for Dern’s weight fail at UFC 224. Now, Rose argues, it’s time to talk consequences:

“I don’t know what kind of consequences…but I hope that it’s something that’s like…come on, girl.” Rose paused, apparently still struggling to find the words before repeating in a flabbergasted tone, “Come on, girl.

“I mean you didn’t even have abs, girl, like, come on.”

After getting her nausea out of her system, Rose returned to her usual benign demeanor and paid the hot prospect some complimentary words and is even excited at the possibility of facing Dern down the road:

“I thought, other than the weight issue, I thought she looked great. I always wanted to test my jiu-jitsu against…that would be awesome. She’s just got to get her shit together, and maybe that might be down the road.”

What do you think? Will Dern “get it together” and challenge Rose for the title someday?
